Which part of the float? I took my measurement from where the arm meets the the float. I got slightly less than 20mm and adjusted to 20mm from there.
can anyone explain the function of the SPS. I hoped I could see something when I took the carb apart but aside from the check valve in the main, I did not note anything special. did not want to remove the special screws inside the carb for fear of damage.

Just got my 3.2 and rode it in its 1st trials. The bike ran great! But being a mechanic, I just can't ever leave well enough alone.
I thought I would like to verify the float level and make sure everything is clean and correct. Only problem is I have never had a 3.2 carb apart, and it is not real obvious where to check the float level. I have read the posts about the 20 mm height, but where do I check it from? Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

The 4T is the 1st four stroke Ive had since the TL125 years. Since then Ive had (still have) many sherpa t's and seven 2t's (only one now). Is the 4t better than the rest? I couldnt say. I liked them all. The 4t has strenghts in areas that the 2t lacked, and visa versa. I really like the 4t at this point, not because its better, but because its different. Will it help me improve my riding remains to be seen. But its gonna be a blast finding out. And im gonna sound really cool going up those hills.

Just received my 3.2 about two weeks ago. Have about 5 hours on her. The bike is awesome! Usually starts cold within 3 kicks, actually easier than my 2t bikes did. When warm she pops right off. The bike can be harder to start after its been stalled though, sometimes as many as 10 kicks. I think I have it figured out now, I didn

I'm happy your pleased with your new bike. I took you at your word from my other post (2.9 vs 3.2) and ordered one for myself, its coming in March. I am really looking forward to it. Perhaps once I get it we can compare notes and insights on maintenance. Will you be attending the VT or NY Nationals this year?
-
I am seriously considering a 2009 3.2. I've had a new 2.9 almost every year since 1999 and each year I have been impressed more and more with the changes. My only fear each time I sell my old bike is that the next one might not measure up to the last. You can only imagine what im thinking now changing to a four stroke. Have any of you out there gone through this already? And how did it work out for you?
What are the major diferences you have experienced, positive and negative points?
I would appreciate any comments.

I would be very careful not to pound on the piston head as this will only make the piston tighter as the dome flattens out from the percussion's. If the piston is stuck soo tight that it cannot be tapped out or pressed out, I would recommend drilling and carefully cutting the piston to relieve the stress and then removing it. The bottom skirt of the cylinder is very fragile and can crack and break. It is less expensive to replace a piston and bore a cylinder than to replace both piston and cylinder.
Good Luck

2005 200cc GG clutch is dragging. We have rebuilt the master cylinder, and replaced clutch as recommended by the dealer. No change, still drags like before. Don't understand, everything was fine then one day after about a half an hour of ridding it just started to drag. Now the bike wants to start walking away as soon as you put it in gear.
Any ideas, please!!

I hope everyones suggestions help you. But if your bike was used when you got it and you only serviced the front and rear sections of the exhaust, the center is due anyway. Try burning it out as a last resort before you do anything major. I can tell you I did eveything that has been suggested thus far and burning out the center section is what fixed it. I would hate to see you spend alot of $$$$ and still have it knock when your done.
Good Luck.

I was certain mine needed a piston, yes it was that bad. I cleaned the carb, checked jetting, timing, etc. The only thing I hadnt done was actually disassemble the top end for inspection. I figured I was going to upgrade the top end to 2.9 anyway so I would make due. The exhaust was a fluke. I only it because the center section felt a little heavy. A propane torch is all it took for about 30 minutes. alot of smoke! When I put it back together, I just could not believe the difference. I guess the 2.9 top end will wait now.
I've been around bikes for a long time, and I've done my share of overhauls. This was a surprise to me.

I also have an ssdt replica, and had the identical problem. I finally solved it by burning out the head pipe and center section of the exhaust. I would also recommend repacking the muffler while your at it. Your bike will run smooth like a new machine.
-
try loosening the screws around the right side cover, particularly the ones around where the shifter shaft comes through. If this solves the problem, add another right side cover gasket.
-
anyone out there got one yet? are you experiencing any problems like for example occasional backfire when kick starting. Also, very little difference is noted betwen positions #1 and #2. can someone explain how all this works and during which conditions would a rider expect to gain good results on different types of terrain and obsticals.

Don't know if he still does it, but Bob at BJ racing used to rebuild the sherco shocks, he could also mod the non adjustable shock to adjustable for a modest cost as compared to new.
try bob at: www.bjracing.com you may want to get his phone number off the site and call him as he is not to reliable with answering email inquiries.

I was -10 in both eyes. It was like a miracle to wake up in the morning and be able to see the LED's on my alarm clock. 47 years old going on two years now, it's the best thing I ever did. Contact lens, sports eye glasses, I tried it all. Laser vision correction LASIK surgery.

Yes its been a long time. Whats your vintage ride these days? Im planning on riding my 199b. I noticed a growing interest in vintage trials in NETA and our local club CATRA last year, so I thought I would give it a try and see where it goes. Im hoping that maybe we can establish a vintage series in this neck of the woods. Our event will be part of a two day with the second day being modern NETA sanctioned. If there is enough interest we might even add more events next year. Of coarse we will also do a picnic afterwards with a big screen video set up and trials videos at night for the campers.
You guys always do a great event, I will try to make it out there for the good times.

Two New England Trials (NETA) clubs, CATRA and Rhode Island Trials Riders will be hosting vintage trials events this season. Are there any other vintage trials happening this year in the North Eastern USA? I understand D-4 has a vintage series, any info on the schedule or how to become part of the series. It would be nice to see more vintage events, I know there are maney of us who have these wonderful old machines at home just waiting to be riden again. Thoughts.....

I had a 2.0 sherco (same bottom end) that I thought had loose rivits. Turned out the basket is mounted to the gear with a rubber shock mount between. The movement is normal. I did try replacing the basket with the old styl (no rubber mount) which has no play at all, it made no difference in the noise. I removed and inspected all the parts and bearings and measured all the clearances where I could find play. I compared all the demensions to a 2.9 which was pretty quiet and found no differences. End result, its still noisy, extreamly reliable though. The bike has since been sold twice and has never had a problem, and still a very nice machine to ride.

Anyone go to CATRA land last weekend for the NETA two day. If so what did you think. If not, why not?
-
I think the point here should be, how do we attract more people to our sport? Or do we just stand by and watch as it dies trying to satisfy the "if your not good enough you shouldnt be there" group.
-
Thanks Wayne for your input. What you say is true, the rules are not strictly followed.
The Nationals are the big show, because of the hype that goes with a national event many more people show to watch who other wise would not go to a local event. This is our only opportunity to show the country what a great and fun sport Trials is. Last year I rode both the Vermont and NY rounds. While I had a great time at High Gate and I feel they did a great job, I think Mike Komer really nailed it at Alma. Sure the really good guys had low scores (many under 20 points for the day) but the rest of us were right in there most were not more than 80 points. All the sections were challenging on the support line, only one was really difficult perhaps more along the lines of an expert section, this made for a good challenging tie breaker. After mikes event I couldn
-
Im sure I will live to regret this but....
I suppose that the numbers could speak for themselves. When the majority of the scores are upwards of 100 (which is the case for the two rounds that I rode) it tends to tell me that perhaps the bar is bit to high. Sure there is always going to be the few who score low consistently, but what about the many who don't. As a rider I can tell you that I don't like sections that are not challenging, but on the other hand, when I spend the day riding sections that 80% of the riders have no chance of scoring less than three it makes you want to re-evaluate why you bothered to show up.
Additionally, I can tell you as a spectator its no fun watching one rider after another push their bike through a section.
Why would any spectator viewing trials for the first time want to get into a sport like that? (Gee I think I'd like to spend $6000.00 on a motorcycle so I can push it all day)
I think its simple, if you want great riders; you have to have a large crop of not so great riders to grow them in. That

Great Trial Jim,
To those who didnt make it, you lost out big time. NY needs a new place for a National and Jim has found it.
Im ready to start work when you are Jim.
Great Job again!!
