  1. At the very least I would think they should have received a points penalty for the helmet... I would like to have seen an extra 10 points off that rider for that one.
  2. the 2018 has a new stand... Though I don't know if it auto retracts or not as I haven't seen one in person to verify, but would expect it dose.
  3. My 2007 had the auto retract stand, it started to ware and sat to far forward over time so I decided to try the Mitani stand. They look a bit strange but a fantastic bit of kit over all. Only way to over come it would be to move the mounting location of the spring forward enough so it pulled that direction when past vertical but high enough so when back words it would keep it up when folded back. If you mess it up I would guess a new mounting bracket would likely be around $35 or so.
  4. If this is working for you that is great. I however have to say that for me I have best luck when I match with Lineaways comment, my daughters 08 Gas Gas 125 is much easier to start with the piston at the top and in out of gear. The only other thing that really helped was re-jetting it.

    MX clothing

I agree with scatman, I used a bit of MX gear at the start because that is what I had for trail riding but it wasn't long before I could see the benefit of trials gear. The best 2 pics of trials gear i got have been good trials boots and helmet. Note on helmet shape, I have an Airoh and a Hebo and both are great, the Airoh and Hebo in my opinion both have an intermediate oval shape and are the best trials helmet for the oval heads. Wulf Sport is very round, and the Jitsie I tried on was on the round side but not as round as the Wulf Sport. Hope you enjoy trials. Its the best sport ever in my opinion!
  6. I know its not the 2000 but maybe a 2004 manual and parts list would give you most of what you need? https://overlandtrail.biz/Montesa Parts Books.htm
  7. I am with you... I have been riding trials now for about 6 years and don't argue my score even if I really thought I got a 2 and they are marking a 3 or what ever. I have admitted more than once my score of a 2 or 3 and then been told they only noticed 1 or 2. The funny part is that even admitting my score only once did the observer actually punched what I told them, the rest commented on only what they noticed and then punched what they had seen any way...
  8. Consider a set of SKF seals instead? They keep getting the best reviews from my friends and fellow riders. Just a thought.
  9. Also remember that the standard rules in Japan are not the same as FIM and there is a good chance that even if they got FIM training the habit would be to score with at least an edge of typical Japanese scoring. And they wouldn't even be doing it on purpose.
  10. I have had the chance to use both, have the standard on my bike and took a ride on a friends TRS with the curved. If I was more of an advanced rider and was on the rear tire a lot and/or doing lots of really big up's I could see using the curved pegs but over all I both like and ride a lot better with the standard S3 Hard Rock aluminum. For reference if a club has 6 classes 1 to 6 with 1 being the low or novice class I ride the 3rd class, here 3rd = intermediate. (1st Novice, 2nd amateur, 3rd intermediate, 4th... etc.) My 2 cents.
  11. Good catch... your comment encouraged me to do a bit of looking and with what I can find, the only place I see that stop is on images of the factory bikes.
  12. That looks like a different setup entirely from what I am aware of. I have not seen one like that so wouldn’t really be able to accurately assess it without more information.
  13. Sorry not sure what your talking about... even taking a second and third look what I see would require the APICO cam shown in the picture for that stop to work correctly. I don't see where the CSP cam would work correctly through the whole range of the available swing-arm adjustment with the stop in question. Also, I am not talking about the protector bolt position...
  14. FYI: That stop uses both of the bolt positions at one time, so unless you want the larger cam so you can adjust in a lot more it will limit your ability to use the full range of adjustments.
  15. This is my own opinion/speculation based on what I have experienced and see... so take it with a grain of sand Based on the way my Montesa’s clutch responds to other oils I have used and in comparison to what advanced riders like in a clutch I think the ELF is likely to be used because it actually works... or at least more often then not. The other factor to say it isn’t just business from my mind is that they have recommended the ELF from the beginning, even my friends 05 4RT and my 07 as well as my 2017 300RR all recommend the ELF oil. I just don’t see that many years of using the same oil really bing just business if it wasn’t good. People would have complained and they would have changed it at some point. though I don’t doubt there is more to it than just that... as business relationships are always a part of it.
  16. The only time I had a problem like Brucey indicated "Selecting gears becomes difficult once the bike is hot and neutral is pretty much impossible to find at any time with the engine running" was when I needed to bleed and re-adjust the levers on my 4RT. Best I could tell was that the heat on the slave with the dirty fluid was causing it to not work correctly. My best guess is because of the age and hygroscopic aspect of the fluid had collected to much water/dirt and was causing issues. Fixed with adjustment and a double flush of the system. I can't say that is the cause here but was in my case. At least it sure sounds like something in the slave and/or the master to me... Best of luck.

  18. A second note: If you picked up the Happy Trails holder over the Wolfman it is rather thin aluminum so if it takes a hit it will likely bend or if you are running it without the bottle it is a bit of a knife, hence why I indicated even with the bottle empty we don't run it without the bottle. To help with strength, when you get it and size up what kind of plate you want to use to mount it you might want to cut two of them and use the second as a backing for the holder. Also a small bit of rubber between the plates to prevent scratching of the down-tube is a good idea. Good luck.
  19. Bottle holder: https://www.happy-trail.com/happy-trails-container-holder.html It can hold up to a 1.5L bottle - https://www.happy-trail.com/primus-fuel-bottle-1-5-l-p-737929.html I also used this holder: https://wolfmanluggage.com/collections/fluid-systems/products/wolf-bottle-holster It can do typical 1L bottles. Mounting of the Happy Trails holder is done with a flat plate of aluminium that I cut to size and drilled matching hols in and then bolted to the side rail with some hex bolts I cut to fit so they don't hit anything like fan shroud wires etc. I also run the Wolfman Enduro Pocket and really like it for having a few extra things handy that I don't have to pack on my back. https://wolfmanluggage.com/collections/enduro-bags/products/enduro-pocket
  20. Sorry for the delayed response, been busy so haven’t been online much for a bit. I will get some close up pictures and information on what we use for fuel later today.
  21. Fuel bottle. We trail ride from time to time so we want some extra range. Its empty when we ride trials but the mount sicks out a bit so its safer to have the bottle there in the event of a crash.
  22. @jerv888 One more thing. If it has been this way from the beginning you might want to order up some jets and re-jet at the same time as my daughters Beta 80 runs so much better now that its jetted.
  23. I know someone with I think a 2014 (might have been a 2015) with some issues with running correctly caused by manufacturing debris in the fuel tank getting into the carburetor. If you don't already have one I might put a fuel filter on it and check/clean out the carburetor as a first step. Good luck.
  24. My wife started on a 500 street bike in a parking lot, then went to a single 650 single for a number of years. Then to a dual sport 230 and now trials. When we went to trials she started on a 125 Gas Gas and it was great. If I was going to start it all over again I would have gone in the reverse direction starting on the 125, then the 230, and end with the 650. As such my vote, go for the 125. However, if she is petite or timid a Beta 80 as suggested above is a good option as well. Some video of the wife on her 125. Wheelie practice: First time on the tire:
  25. As above the fan comes on more on both my 4RT and my 300RR than a standard 2T like my wife's Gas Gas, however I have found that "engine ice" coolant is another option to keep the fan on less. When I switched to that on my 4RT before I got my 300 I found it made a big difference on how often it comes on. I did the same on my 300 and it has improved it as well. Though I am not sure if engine ice is available in the UK but worth consideration. Just another option.
