  1. Good point Big John about variety in the Pre '65 instead of 90 Cubs. Nothing against Cubs coz I've won best Scotsman twice on one and raced one in the Isle of Man......BUT this year I entered a Triumph Twin Matisse and was refused an entry because the Comittee sat round the table and decided they had not heard of a Matisse trials bike and it was not eligible (inside information) even though I have a dating certificate from the Scottish Classic Club!!!
  2. Gave me a bit of a fright seeing the headline too - think I've been involved with road racing too long! Get well soon Grant. Better sticking to the motorized bicycles!!!
  3. Some nice machinery there. Twinshocks are tomorrows' Pre-65's
  4. Any other Twinshockers got an entry in the Manx Two Day? Is last man away on the Saturday good or bad? Last time I rode (1995, 240 Fantic) we supplied fuel in cans, which was transported to stops for us - is it still the same setup?
  5. Sounds like a knackered crankcase oil seal. Gearbox oil is being drawn into the crankcase and burned causing the smoke and making the plug black.
  6. Does anyone remember seeing a picture of a monoshock Ossa in the motorcycle news back in the mid '80's. I think is was a prototype that never made it into production. I'm sure it was designated a '303'. I'd like to see the picture again if anyone has it.
  7. I agree with Big John - old trials bikes will alway have an appeal. Once the youngsters have done their bit competing at the highest level they can they will probably take a step back and appreciate what Eddy Lejeune & Co. could do on a twinshock when they watch the videos of yesteryear - ohh halcyon days! and if there are decent twinshock events I'm sure they would like to have a go on a twinshock. Just like Matchless trials bikes and the like are undeniably gorgeous and to someone like myself it would be a pleasure to ride one in a prestigious Pre '65 event.
  8. I reckon he rides the four stroke better than the two stroke. He's certainly proving its potential.

    Rules

I will support anyone who wants to keep twinshock trials bikes as period machines. They were produced by the factories and sold to competitors - those that could afford them - as the latest technology at the time. The worlds best riders were using them, albiet with a little tweeking no doubt, but essentiallly as we bought them. Same as todays trials bikes are available to the public. I bet in thirty years time there wil be a similar debate over 'period' Cabestany Shercos! I personally would not like trials to go the same way as road racing for example where it costs you
  10. If someone's going to try the 'splat' technique on a twinshock give me a call - I'd like to watch!!
  11. Hello wilsyfm403, Try Langcourt Ltd in Weston-super-Mare - 01934 612226 (Langcourt@btinternet.com) I've used them to weld & re-plate racing barrels. Quick turnaround and as good a price as anyone else. They re-plate back to factory sizes unless otherwise stated. Cheers!
  12. Does anyone know why the World Championship guys refer to their events as 'races'? I could understand the 'race' term being used in Time and Observation trials. +
  13. Big John, couldn't help but notice how dry it looked in your ssdt photos posted earlier in the thread - I was reading your blurb in another post about how wet it was in '77!

    1983

Enough of all these wet weather stories! I rode in 1996 and only got rained on one afternoon! That was on a 300 Fantic - I think there were only four twinshocks entered that year. Respect to Michaud, Lejeune etc who made it look easy on twinshocks.

    Sanz !

Watched Bilbao walk Sanz through the sections at Kinlochleven, ride them first and then go back and point out the line to her - not bad help if you can get it. Hope she keeps it up.
