Taco Newbie Needs Brakes, And Fluid Level Check
wrenchbender replied to 74tacoalpina's topic in Bultaco
I've run into the same problem, Do you still have the old shoe's? Most large cities have an automotive brake and clutch relining shop. Took mine to one and they were able to bond on some oversized linings, had a choice of two compounds, they work great now. If you don't have any shoe's, check on E-bay, relatively common. Drain and refill those fluids, Hugh's Bultaco web page has a tech section with the amounts, I use ATF in the clutch instead of the 30wt. Mark. -

Hi all, T'm having a bit of trouble locating a head and base gasket for a 1986 RTL 250. In the U.S. we didn't get many of these and in recent years I've not seen another. I've been able to locate all the other top end and cam chain parts being common to other Honda's. I've seen a set on ebay, but they were gone before I realized how scarce they are. We also didn't get the TLR 250 which I belive use's the same gaskets but you seem to have gotten in the U.K. Any help out there? Thank's, Mark.

If you look on the Yamaha online parts site you'll see that all ty250 twinshocks use the same air filter and cage, my mistake when looking at the diagrams for the 76, 77 models it wasn't shown but it was listed under the part #'s. Air boxs are different. Like I said my 76 was the same filter and cage as my 74. Sorry for the confusion.

1974, 1975 TY250 A-B's have cages in side the air filter element part #434-14458-00-00 and the 1976/77 did not, although both my bikes 1974 and 1976 both have them. You don't mention what year yours is. I would certainly agree you do need one, check E bay or see if they are still available from Yamaha, at least in the US there's still quite a bit still in the warehouse. I always check at the dealer before looking at Ebay etc. Mark.

Kenny The Rooster - Contains Adult Humour
wrenchbender replied to the addict's topic in Anything goes
I've been on TC for a few years and have never looked at "anything goes" but after spending the last 2 hours I find your humor sick and twisted, my kind of people! So I'll give it a stab and join in. An old couple had just gotten married and before they consumated the marraige she told him,"before we begin I must tell you that I've got an acute agina" He repllies " thats a good thing cause those are the ugliest titties I've ever seen!" -
Draw a line with a Sharpie from the hole to the edge and side of the bearing, also mark the case. One hole for oil to feed into and the other for it to get out. Don't beat the bearings in, use a press. Mark.

I've done the search for it and the link for the Swedish site that had it doesn't work any more. I'm repairing a broken kick start stop and I need some clear pictures to go by. Thank's, Mark.

Don't be tempted to beat the crank out of the cases, sometimes even if you can get the primary gear off the crank still won't come out. Remember the waterpump drive fits into that end of the crank so any damage you cause whacking it out may result in the pump drive not fitting back. I've found that the best way to get a stuck crank out is with a hydraulic press, be carefull where the crankcase mating surfaces lay on the bed of the press, just a little pressure and the crank comes out. You will probably need a press anyways to install the new bearings, an 05 should have the one piece bearing/seal, don't pound those in. Mark.

What you can do is to grind the head off the retaining bolt, then use a long allen wrench in the remaing hex or a long punch and beat the swing arm bolt out. I welded the rod on so after punching the bolt out you can unscrew it from the s/a bolt. You can also use it as a guide when reinstalling the motor, it helps with line up. Hope this helps. Mark.

Some synthetic oils cause the clutch materials to swell causing the drag, and 02 were even worse about it, but it seems that after 6 years the plates should have been updated to the 03 material. If all else fails replace the fiber plates, set the clutch pack height, and use the ATF or the GM auto-trak fluid (blue in color) Mark.

Yes, Tri Z250 3 wheeler

I think what your talking about is the kickstarter idler gear, I'm also on my third idler gear(05 280), the first two didn't seem to engage well with the kick start gear and would get a tooth knocked off when it bound up. The third gear I got from Lewisport USA, and it was clearly different, it had a black coating and probably a different gear angle because I've not had a problem in 6 months. When you put in the new gear look in every nook and cranny in the primary area, pieces of old gear may remain, check the magnet on the drain plug too. Mark.

You could rent a car and drive to Birmingham Alabama and you could ride trials bikes with us New Years day! Mark.
