sounds like it could be valve clearances. They do get hard to start when hot if the clearances are tight.

Firstly I'd check the tick over (idle) is adequate. Then a new plug. Its worth removing the bank angle sensor altogether

They are a good improvement.
The con, is that they put you over the handlebars on the big drops that you can normally roll off! Soon get used to what the limit is and just needs a blip off them instead.
Probably the best value improvement there is for a 4rt.

some linkage plates are a good buy, slightly alters the feel of the back end making it more lively.
If your really bored, Polish the alloy rear spokes, that will kill a few hours!
I hope your pockets are deep if you want to get the weight down!

jitsie all the way. I did have a standard filter get sucked into the throttle body many years ago, it was probably past its best and not seated correctly without the flame guard. Quite amusing at the time.

Top biuld quality... Yes, everything fits perfectly, no struggling to get bolts in
Air filter guard.... Never used one in 11 years of 4rt ownership
Sump guard..... Fine for normal use, start taking bigger hits then upgrade
Frames cracking... Yes, but down to artermarket hangers and pegs, no give.
Bank angle sensor.... Unnecessary saftey device, easy job
Side stand... Crap, take it off, always plenty of things to lean it on
Starting issues..... Nothing unusual in 11years
Are they better built.... Think so, never had to rebuild a gearbox or change stator, only done 1 piston. Suspension and DID wheels are 1st class.
In those 11 years I've only had 3 bikes, plenty of ssdts and scotts on the same engine generally being abused. Other bikes would have expired.

Usually down to fitting aftermarket alloy or titanium hangers. There's just no give in them and the frame ends up breaking first. I had one break in the ssdt, not a nice way to spend the rest of the trial!
Get the bike stripped down and take the frame to an engineering firm. It can be fixed, you've just got to find the right people who understand the stresses of trials.

The carbon bits are good, keeps everything looking new underneath. Before fitting them, cover the area in tape to stop the carbon vibrating and rubbing.
The H&D sump guard is top notch, really takes a beating as well as looks good.

I've damaged the generator cover before by landing hard on the sump guard, the guard then bends and puts pressure on the rubber between the guard and the gen cover, bending some of the lower cover bolts and the cover itself. New gasket, bolts and a sledge hammer on the sump guard fixed it.

which seal are you meaning?
The bike can throw oil out of the breather if its been upside down.
Never heard of it ending up in the gear box.
Any signs of oil on the sump guard?
Maybe top up a little and keep an eye on it.

I believe Dunlop won the Scott this year, also taking the team award for beta. They don't leak on the mont DID rims and stay on the rim reasonably well when flat. I ran mine for a mile or so whilst trying to get to the last fuel stop. Good tires, probably not as much grip as an x lite, but more durable.

If you test ride one, you'll love it, then for the first 6 weeks or so you'll wish you had never seen it. Once you get the hang of it you'll wonder why you hadn't bought one years ago.
And the thing that sits in the corner of your garage with all the shiny stuff in it, won't get opened very much.

They all have good bits and all have bad bits. If you aren't loyal to a particular brand then try something new, i.e TRS or Vertigo

Why not choose your favourite colour and go from there. They all do the same thing and they are all better than we (the rider) will be.
By the way, the montesa is the best....

The angle sensor or tilt switch. Unclip from the harness and join outside wires together just by inserting another piece of wire into the connector to form the loop. See if bike starts better. Its quick to check so worth a try. I'm sure there is already a thread on this with pictures.d

bank angle sensor. Remove it and file in the bin.

like jimmyl says, with plenty of slack in the cable set the idle correctly using the screw on the left side of the throttle body, then adjust the throttle cable slack.

Good point Jimmyl, its not been done for 3 years. I'll get it done this weekend (as well as fixing the front tube) and see what I find inside.

I'd consider it more if I had the 280 kit. For next year I'll be putting some fine mesh over the rad cover to stop the crud getting to the rad. Cheaper option!!! The fan runs pretty much constantly so the large radiator must help.
Does the 300rr or the 260's have a larger radiator?
