I guess so ... someone IRL told me that it's on sale now ...? (also, I thought it was the TYE)
MCN rode it the other day, but I've not seen anything else ...
-
Hmm, pretty sure the full light kit for the Cota 349 only had a rear brake light switch, but the rest seems do-able easily enough - thanks
-
Good stuff! Do you know if the lights have to be the original style, or are modern ones acceptable on an old bike?
-
Ok, so I know that in the UK you officially need a horn and a motorbike-sized number plate for daytime running on the road, and in France you're ok with an LED front and tail light (brake light too?), and a mini number plate (not sure about horn) ... what about in Spain? What's the minimum equipment for a trials bike to be 100% legal?
-
Wow, nicely done! Did it come with a box of bits of the rest of the bike, or did you have to track everything down?
-
I think Neutral is on a little divet on the "flat" point of the star, and can get worn. My 349 had issues with dropping from neutral into gear when the engine wasn't running, and that was caused by having the wrong tension on the spring
-
I can confirm Gasgas maintenance is easy peasy, even I could manage it
-
I stand corrected! Mostly I was going off the Majesty advertising, where the stock TY was relegated to being a green laner and the Majesty for trials, and of course Mick Andrews riding the "proper" TY250 in the championship which is completely different animal
-
There's details and photos HERE, some changes have happened since then, but that's just cosmetic stuff. I took it off the road for the summer while I was doing a bunch of road racing, but will be back on it shortly (unfortunately my other half broke her CBR600RR badly, so I need to finish that first)
EDIT: Forgot to add, it's also had Majesty progressive fork springs fitted. They are gorgeous
-
Ah ok, dunno why I had that back to front in my head!
I inherited it with a hole, and just put a bit of silicone over it ... I should probably go look at that ...
-
-
When you say too far forward ... I thought it was too far back that I needed to avoid ...?
-
-
Ah ok, yes that does sound like the ideal solution!
I'm thinking of going up a couple of teeth on the front to 14, since at the moment first gear is pointless and the bike can't do more than maybe 25mph flat out (not great between sections on a long trial)
-
Those are smart questions, I'll give it a push next time I've got it up to operating temperature (it's tight as a nut when cold)
As for what's changed, when the engine wasn't running it would drop into first gear while being pushed, IIRC the spring pressure for the shifter cam thingy was upped a little bit so it didn't do that
-
Is there a split link option too? I like to pull the chain and throw it in the parts cleaner at work when it gets nasty
-
Thanks, I'm relieved that I'm not shredding the gearbox!
It's odd that it wasn't doing this before, but I'll give that a go next time it's out (currently having ignition issues ...)
-
So, my White Wonder is experiencing an odd clutch issue following an engine rebuild (done by someone very experienced, it had new seals and mains, the clutch and gearbox looked fine so just went back in as-is).
When cold everything works as expected, but when it's thoroughly warmed up there's a clunk or two as you pull away. It happens in any gear, and you can hear it as well as feel it through the frame - it's like something isn't quite engaging until the wheels are in motion, or as if the chain had excessive slack. Once moving it feels fine both on and off the throttle.
Does anyone have any ideas? I hope we don't have to split the engine again
-
Absolutely, along with the other changes I've made my TY feels very similar to ride to the 125 TXTPro I used to have (ie. nice and easy for a rubbish rider, lol). It's also only 10Kg heavier now, which I can live with
In comparison, the Cota doesn't need the pegs moving, but then it was a "proper" trials bike when new, whereas the TY was a trail-trial bike for teenagers originally
-
Thanks ... once my bank account has recovered from buying a new tank for the TY I'll start playing with my chain and gear ratios
-
Where are you getting them for £20? Cheapest on ebay is £25
-
There was also an Australian chap who did a TY250 electric, though it was a bit more basic than that
-
That's a good point, I got a grey DID for the TY and it hasn't been great (because it's not really designed for what I'm using it for, I didn't know how long a chain I needed so just grabbed the longest) ... something nicer would be good!
-
One thing to note (and I say this as someone with a White Wonder) if you've not ridden trials before don't try to ride it in a competition - they are too much for a beginner in tight confines and it would be easy to hurt yourself on it.
On a single-track technical trail? Riding up a mountain? Need a way to pull your arms out of their sockets in one smooth action? This bike is an excellent solution to those tasks, just not trials for a beginner. Also, they're very useful for learning how to kickstart a bike while not being on the bike
-
That looks good!
I've got an aftermarket lever that's too high up to be comfy, since my pegs are lowered ... there's a temporary fix on there that's been in place for a year, I should sort that ...
