  1. I reckon that all this alu vs steel s a bunch of crud. As far as road bikes are concerned Ducati proved that a steel trellis frame is as a good as an alu frame (fortunatley we're not talking about carbon fibre chassis ). Off road I think it's the same story. My feeling is that Alu frames are all a bit of bling factor. Watching Gasser and Sherco go from oval and rectangular cross section members respectively to round was driven, I suspect, by costs. If a standard off-the-shelf profile (7/8" chrome moly, been around for yonks) will do the job for less cost then why not use it? Another factor, IMO, against alu frames is that they wear on high stress points like the bash plate mounting points and work harden. After a few years an alu frame is decided second hand against a steel frame that has experienced similar usage.
  2. Credit must go to R2W for this find. I merely posted it here. It's great to see Giles and Bernie slowly coming out retirement.

    TL250

You could also try Shedworks, they have guards for the TL125 but they don't advertise any for the TL250. Give them a try you might get lucky (punk, well do you feel lucky....nevermind...)
  4. Little Bruce and Jenny are only 10 years old, but they know they are in love. One day they decide that they want to get married, so Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask him for her hand. Bruce bravely walks up to him and says, "Mr. Smith, me and Jenny are in love and I want to ask you for her hand in marriage." Thinking that this was just the cutest thing, Mr. Smith replies, "Well Bruce, you are only 10. Where will you two live?" Without even taking a moment to think about it, Bruce replies, "In Jenny's room. It's bigger than mine and we can both fit in there nicely." Still thinking this is just adorable, Mr. Smith says with a huge grin, "Okay, then how will you live? You're not old enough to get a job. You'll need to support Jenny." Again, Bruce instantly replies, "Our allowance, Jenny makes five bucks a week and I make 10 bucks a week. That's about 60 bucks a month, so that should do us just fine." Mr. Smith is impressed. Bruce has put so much thought into this. "Well Bruce, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have one more question. What will you do if the two of you should have little children of your own?" Bruce just shrugs his shoulders and says, "Well, we've been lucky so far." Mr. Smith no longer thinks the little **** is adorable.
  5. Another one nabbed. There's some handy lads that pop in and out of TC. Once I even caught a former world #5 posting here. Paul, (herr Doktor ing ), funny really, I used to watch your results in TMX (always fun to watch somebody putting a smaller bike into the results) then you dropped off the scene. I was looking for results for you a few nights ago and saw that you were involved again.
  6. Can't see why you can't write your own map. It's just an array probably saved as a csv file or similar.
  7. <Hijack on> Rosey, are you Paul Rose?
  8. I'm not sure that's a fair analogy Nige. The biggest problem with being in outlying countries is getting sufficient experience to compete with the top guys. A region or country produces a good rider who sets the barre, the up and comings flock to pit their skills against this new tyro. This, in turn, results in the barre being raised even higher. This is why regions like Yorkshire and more specifically, Silsden, end up being Meccas. Internationally at the moment its Spain. The wheel will turn and that international centre will return to the UK. This is why Bernie Schrieber and Pat Smages achievements are so remarkable. The reached that standard without having to travel to the current Mecca. If you're not on that pace is it worth getting on a plane and going half way across the world to get your a*** kicked from here to berakfast time? P.S. Don't forget that Bernie did it without the benefit of video tapes, DVD and t'interweb thingy. He had no idea of the standard in Europe when he arrived.
  9. It's a poser that one. But Sammy was a road racer before he turned to trials (3rd in the 1957 250cc Grand Prix in championship). Granty? He said he would have rather been a trials rider but was better at road racing than trials. When he retired from road racing he had the opportunity to indulge his first love.

    R.I.P. Marco

Marco was on a full factory Honda. Just a different team.

    R.I.P. Marco

Pitley, sad to say I think that this tragic incident might be the last straw that breaks Rossis back.
  12. Re-enlist. They'll get you fit and stupid enough to have another go
  13. Just be careful you don't get the rope hung up in the exhaust port. It's a lot of work to get it out again. I found this out the hard way
  14. Billy knackered his achilles tendon in the Scottish and had complications following surgery. But I'm sure he has experience with knee replacements with some of his patients.

    2011 280 raga

One thing to remember about the Gassers (and probably other makes too) is that they are jetted lean out-of-the-box for homologation purposes. As I mentioned in another thread my '06 Raga was jetted lean on the main. A change on the main jet sorted it.
  16. A Polish immigrant went to the DMV to apply for a driver's license. First, of course, he had to take an eye sight test The optician showed him a card with the letters 'C Z W I X N O S T A C Z.' 'Can you read this?' the optician asked. 'Read it?' the Polish guy replied, 'I know the guy.' ============================================================================================ Mother Superior called all the nuns together and said to them, 'I must tell you all something. We have a case of gonorrhea in the convent.' 'Thank God,' said an elderly nun at the back. 'I'm so tired of chardonay.
  17. I'll say. $345 for a plastic tank when Dave Renham has them for GBP99!
  18. Looks like somebody is clearing out their NOS: Bulto NOS
  19. I keep watching it again and again. I reckon that trial would take marks from the top boys even now. At one point I had to have a giggle, I think it was of Alan L, Dave Thorpe and Nigel Birks in order and all had been recent visitors to my parents house.
