  1. Sounds good. But send to Germany/Berlin would be expensive and lot of tax. The same at Bultaco UK, where it is sold out...
  2. Hi guys, after five Sherpa and Alpina finally got a 76 Frontera 370 model 181. it runs not very good at low normal revs, a little bit fat, as nd at 3500 or 4000 it starts wheeling, full power...original bing 36mm is fitted. Does it make sense to go with Dellorto to get it more smooth? Any experience? On my Sherpas dellorto 26 and 28 working well...
  3. Hi Johnjsy, i have c3 bearings in another Alpina I restored one year ago and use as daily driver. there is some up and down movement at the crank (very little) thats normal at C3 ?
  4. Has anybody an Idea how this could happen?
  5. I have both bikes and would say, they are very different. the 348 is better in tight sections. wheel base is shorter and engine seems to behave more directly .little bit more lichter and nervous than bultaco. wonderful to ride in classic trials . But i personally prefer the bultaco, which has more torque and character. its very good at hillclimbing and on rocks. and reliably brings you on the top of mountain. anyway not so easy in tight sections. it always demands a special style of riding...
  6. Hi Mate, I am nearly 100 percent sure, that there is no difference between cranks wit two or three bearings. I found them in several sherpa and alpine engines. The difference is the seal holder. on the picture left side for one bearing, the right one for two bearings drive side. there also exist different seal sleeves. a long and a short one...greets
  7. thanks for advice, will try this without spring and chain to have more space.the squeeze is located 5cm from end where the shaft is thin. hope its less work than splitting engine...
  8. yesterday fixed ignition at my 199a . I removed kickstarter and case. started engine without left case, to watch rotating flywheel with marks on it and use a flash gun. (never had a problem with that) several times kicked back. I have a new cylinder on it,so it really has compression... Then with right ignition try to assemble case, but kick start shaft was very hard to move and didn't come back. Without screws in the case kickstart shaft could be moved but you could see it was eccentric . I tried to bent it back a little, with heat. no way and didn't want to break the engine housing. I never thought this could happen. bent shaft? ...any ideas?
  9. ...after two days riding without problems ignotion broke down again. We checked ht coil and there was no blank steel connection. the frame was painted new and somebody didnt want to destroy the new paint... unfortunately the green wire was also fixed to that point. (no real earth) Now the primary coil was killed...in the end the whole thing was a bad earthing fault. greets dr.alpina
  10. Hi Mitty, may be you ask someone in the bultaco forum... greets dr.alpina
  11. It was the condenser, thanks for your help folks. Bike runs unlimited now... We are looking forward to a nice season with four running Bultos this year
  12. Hi folks : It really was the condenser. Bike runs unlimited now, tested out today... Thanks for your help.
  13. thanks for advice. i will check that at the weekend . here is the plug...ngk 5
  14. yes, that is what we thought first...but if you pull off the fuel line there comes a lot of petrol...i will check out that capacitor thing
  15. Hi there, we have a problem since last week we put a second Sherpa 183 back into life . Engine is totally rebuilt incl. new piston, crank etc. Ignition is the old femsa. new points fitted. new carb. clean filters...When you ride, after one hour, the engine suddenly stops. We have ignition spark, but bike wouldn't start again. If you change ignition plug, it starts again but runs only 30 minutes, then the same procedure, but bike doesn't start with new changed ignition plug, although we have good blue spark...do we have to live with an 1,30 hour riding bike? any ideas?

    199A Setup

i would say, there is no difference between sherpa and alpina exhaust pipes. may be for better brake you can try the alpina front wheel. i think 135mm. Alpina has different steering stops located at the triple clamps. you must weld one stop at the middle of steering head or try the old ones.

    199A Setup

i can tell you my 199a setup: try first 35 or cm rear shocks and the right springs for your weight. put all shims or spacers out of the front fork and make it soft with automatic transmission fluid. 26 Dellorto, original airbox. I have cut away the outer flywheel mass to make the engine more light. (wheelies more easy now) at last the footrests cut off and welded 1,5cm more to the rear. find your own ignition point...there is a range...
  18. Hi again, last week I put together the whole stuff. the plan was to finish that project this year. I have put on the replace cylinder with the piston i found in my shed, new tires, oils, chain, front sprocket 11, new dellorto carb 28, new grips, filter element, new gas shocks, new chain guard alloy, rims blasted with glass pearls, the rest cleaned up. ..and it runs great. The engine goes very smooth and powerful. here some pics of the project...totally worn slide from bing, new Dellorto (would never use Bing again) ,upper frame connection without hole (forgotten at the factory), left side nearly finished, right side with brake conversion, worn footpads before and after welding, and last not least ...first run outside. wish you all a Happy new year...
  19. Hi Dylan, my play at the top is 1,5mm (its a 350, 183) and i can feel very, very little play up and down when totally dry. with 2T oil there is no play. In my Bultaco Book it says the limit is at 2,5mm... I will try to use it.. I think for me, its ok... a few days in the year in classic trials. the washer at the end of kick starter is important, cause kickstart gear and transmission gears can get into contact...and oil can leak out of the kickstart shaft. cheers
  20. Ok I will try this piston. ...found some details on the bike which are not original, but from the 70ies, the rear mudguard was not original, but M.Robert. Front mudguard NAVA, some italian i think, levers magura, but special short ones. Handlebars are original i think as well as amal throttle. --swing arm was bent, I replaced and converted the brake lever to the right side. finally found a white used plastic mudguard ... thats it for today...
  21. I have 5 pistons around and no one has that. Even the Alpina 213 or 199A...it is a Mahle Piston. selfmate or could you buy this?
  22. ..when i got the engine running, it sounded ok but some times you could hear the piston. After stripping and measuring it had around 0.25 clearance...! I decided to put a new piston but found another old cylinder with this piston. clearance 0.10...after cleaning it really looked better , but have you ever seen this holes? looks homemade for me and whats the reason?
  23. ..Also good training area is in Fürstenwalde...may be we meet there. saturday mornings , don't remember.
  24. Hi there, nice that i found this forum and i am not the only Bultaco addict round here...I just wanted to sell a 183 Sherpa i bought for a friend, who didn't want it anymore. When it was standing in my garage, i said to myself: he, thats a really nice bike...It was stored 25 years in a shed and had a real daily driver life before that...I put some air in the tires, brake cleaner in the carb, some fuel and the engine fired up. I could not believe when i made a few rounds with it on our place...and decided, thats my new project, the bike i always wanted to have since i was 18. crazy, and makes really no sense, cause i have three other Bultacos and a montesa trial... I stripped last week the bike. new tires, wheel bearings, steering head...what is always necessary. but i like the look of the original alloy tank. old warrior or something...so decided, to keep the look, like it is. (with rusty kickstarter...) I liked the patina of the bike. ( ..ok the red pipe...) to be continued...
  25. Good question, every space we find...some illegal training area between A114, S-bahn and Pankow...
