  1. I would suggest you stick to clutchless lifting of the front wheel. Using the clutch can ofter lead to wheel spin in a section and is just not needed. If you compress the front a little and then pull your weight back at the same time a feeding in a little throttle the front WILL lift. If you want to lift the front up for a step or obsticle rather than a full blown wheelie you need very little throttle. Just get used to using your weight and a little blip to get it up. I disagree with the above comment about using second. All us more experianced riders who started out using second are constantly being told by better riders that we should be in first and once your used to second it's difficult to get back down to riding in first. All modern trials bikes are perfectly suitable to first gear riding in most sections. Only when you start taking on big climbs or using advanced techniques do you really need to go up the box. Since your just starting out the best advice is to set up a simple section and ride it until you can clean it every time then make it more difficult by moving on to a different section or just moving the markers in a bit to tighten it up. Practice practice practice its the only way.
  2. Kinell Ben stayed with the B group all day. I didn't say it in the report but one of the problems was that with each group being ten or eleven riders and the fact that we were riding reasonably long sections rather than concentrating of just small single techniques one at a time meant that there was a lot of sitting waiting for your turn. Still enjoyed it though.
  3. I like the upsprung weight argument but I'm not sure how much difference sprung weight has on a trials bike's performance. I think the fact that the tube is so much more likely to be damaged way down there that that desired it. Also as stated above the benting moment is far greater on USD forks meaning you need bigger thicker tubes and that adds weight to a trials bike. Trials bikes are subject to greater off axis loads from front on impacts than a MX or other off roader.
  4. Dougie Lampkin Experience I know our very own Andy and Kinell are going to this on Friday and will surely produce a full report and pictures but I thought a quick report for those attending later in the week would still be worth while. I and a few friends attended the school on Monday and had a great time. The school itself was of limited value to me as a rider (personal opinion) but a great day out all the same. I had hoped to work with the instructors on techniques that I felt I was struggling with but the group sizes and mixture of abilities made this unlikely from when we arrived at the first section. Morning Session We were first split in to two groups based on the riding of an extremely simple section. It goes to show how much these guys know that they got the split of group member
  5. Looks nice Andy. How are the girls going to get to next years TC trial? For those that don't know they filling the last car to the roof with home comforts for thier two days camping and it was a much bigger car.

Trialscot The comment about taking marks from Gary were indeed meant in jest. I think it's great having someone like Gary ride these trials and obviously expect him to win once in a while. If the comments about sections and observers were aimed at the Bon Accord round in June then I take offence personnally. The sections were set out with the majority of riders in mind and proved a little easy on what turned out to be a dry day. If it were wet (as expected) then things would have been very different and you'd be complaining that it was too hard. Only one complete novice observer worked on the day and I'll bet you can't tell me what section he or she was on. Each observer is supplied with a very concise description of the rules with instruction for observing. This means that there are no questions. To see these instructions click here. Rules
  7. I've run it through Autoroute Europe and produced a pdf of the whole journey. email me hirdj@camerondiv.com and I'll forward it to you.
  8. Thanks Twinnshock That's what I found as well. If anyone knows the correct level it would be nice. I don't like the idea of filling the box and allowing it to spit out what it doesn't need. Somewhere someone must know the real quantity.
  9. Can anyone tell me the correct oil level for an 04 pro 300? The book says 500cc but the oil reaches the middle of the sight glass way before that. I would guess somewhere around the 300cc mark.
  10. Hugo I chipped the titanium off one of the fork legs of my 2001 gasser on it's first hour out of the box. I bought a new one and it cost about

Well maybe I can take up trials again. I got a PB on Sunday at the Portsoy 10K and managed my target of splitting my two mates and beating the wife. Now if only I could walk without the pronounced limp. I guess as the saying goes "no pain no gain"
  12. Beta boy Just the standard stuff you get at any autoparts shop or esso petrol station. It's 0W40 I think. It is very thin at room temperature but stays that way up to extreme temperatures. The problem on my Beta was not being helped by other oils thickening then cold. You really want an oil that will keep the sort of viscosity you get when warm all the way down to low temp. That way you always get the best lub.

Peer pressure I'm afraid. My wife and some of my friend have been running for years and I kept on saying how easy it was. Now you've got to understand I'd not run more than 100Mts since my school days. While I was down in Angola earlier this year they entered me in the Great Caledonian 10K. I got home trained for a week and a half and went out and beat my wife but not my two male friends. I was a couple of minutes short so all I'm now doing is trying to catch up. As soon (and if) I manage I'll retire while on top. It plays havoc with my knees so if I don't catch up soon I'll stop anyway. I don't really enjoy it but it is good to get to the end and not be last. I turned 40 earlier this year and I'm maybe trying to pretend I'm still young.

I'm with you Boof. I knew who G4321 was because we don't have Many trials riders from his area called Gordon. I didn't need to look at the results to work that one out. Who the hell DanGleeBitz is I have no idea.
  19. I still say FAT, way to FAT. I rode a jet ski recently for the first time and thought it felt like the Montesa. It didn't so well on the hills though.
