  1. Most TY Mono have serious magnesium corrosion to the bottom of both flywheel and clutch covers. I am sure that this is because bashplates are never removed to clean the build up of crud that accumulates under the motor.
  2. I would imagine with some mods to the swing arm locating lug you should be able to get something of a similar period to fit, although you will have the same corrosion issues as the standard TY wheel, so may cost the same at the end of the day. Second hand swinging arms are cheap enough so you could do some experimenting. How much are you being quoted for a wheel build on your talon hub, you should be able to get a rim and spokes for £150 + £70 for the build. If you had an original TY hub it would cost more as the Z spokes are more expensive than traditional spokes.
  3. Bin the drum brake and swap for a Pinky front end with AJP 4 pot calliper (fits straight onto the Yam fork leg). Makes a massive difference.
  4. Try Trail and Trial - I vaguely recall getting one from them a while ago.

    Ty Mono Oils

The clutch cover has the transmission oil capacity stamped on it. View the user manual online at http://northover.com/Bike/YamahaTYManual.htm
  6. Hi Rob You would be better having a new wheel made up around your Talon hub. The standard mono rear wheel uses Z spokes which are becoming increasingly harder and more expensive to find. Most second hand mono wheels have some degree of rim corrosion and you will probably end up having to rebuild anyway.
  7. Only alloy tanks I have seen for the mono was a high capacity one which I assume was for long distance trials, think they are quite rare although I do know where there is one that maybe for sale. Standard mono tanks are either steel (s model) or plastic (r model).
  8. Yes i've got one too - very good value and really smartens the bike up, appeared a bit flimsy but once fitted seems up to the job and the tank and frame stiffen it up quite a bit.
  9. Try Keith at Motolink http://motolinkyamaha.weebly.com/index.html He's an early YZ guru and may well be able to help
  10. Have a look at early YZ wheels / brakeplates. Try Keith at Motolink http://motolinkyamaha.weebly.com/index.html
  11. pics sent to your e-mail address cheers
  12. I have talon rears on 2 of my ty monos - if you would like a pic let me know

    Ty 250 Mono

Plastic tank will fit on all mono frames regardless of whether it originally had a steel one. S and N (i think) models had the steel tank and the R and Pinky version had steel. Finding a really good plastic tank is hard work - last NOS one I saw was £250.
  14. Turned out the points had closed up ! Ive reset them and all is well (for now)

    Ty175 Help

Trying to help a local lad with his TY175 No spark - checked plug, cap, lead, kill switch etc - suspect points or condenser. Have ordered new points, condenser, plug etc Can anyone post a link to relevant section of manual or give a step by step guide to fitting and checking timing. All my bikes have electronic ignition systems so any help appreciated Cheers in advance (pardon the pun )
  16. Pinky will have engine and frame number prefix 4AJ. Earlier 250R is 3BA (i think)
  17. You need to speak to Pete at Promonty porourke100@btinternet.com (i think) He has done loads of front and rear end conversion on the TY Mono
  18. Have a look on ebay - theres a aluminium TY250 one on there - currently £50 - needs paint item number 230765050138 (not mine)
  19. I think the only way you can remove the spring is to undo the base of the assembly from the damper rod (assuming the damper rod is threaded) The problem is the limited amount of room to get a fix on the rod due to the reservoir hose joint preventing the spring from being moved very far. Ive tried loads of times in the past and even had a "proper motorcycle mechanic" have a look and we have had no success. You could try ringing Nigel Birkett - at least you would find out for sure if they can be dismantled.

    Ty350

Hi Im intersted in the Pinky tank I have sent PM Please get in touch asap Thanks
  21. You can buy new tank covers from Steve Goode - plain white but a good way to smarten up a bike with a scruffy tank
  22. Pinky models have frame and engine numbers starting 4AJ Pinky tank stickers are cheaply available on e-bay but due to the nature of the plastic tanks they wont stay on for long.
  23. Gaz - it sounds as if you really need an owners manual as nearly all of the answers will be there. if you send me a PM I can e-mail you a pdf copy of the manual. The amount of oil you need is stamped on the clutch cover. To replace the kickstart shaft i am pretty sure you will need to split the motor - before you do this check that everything is in the correct place on the outer side (behind the clutch cover) as sometimes the clip can work free.
