  1. So I would like to road reg my GasGas TXT 250. I have the V55/5 (I think it is) form the DVLA but I think there is more to it than that isn't there? I was wondering if anyone could detail the process and the cost involved, I've read some posts on it but some of those are a good few years old now and I know the Gov love to "update" how things are done for no reason. Thanks

  3. Well as you pointed out there isn't a lot of air flow over the rad fins when stationary - unless you aim it upwind - however the main idea of a rad is increased surface area to facilitate cooling by heat transfer, so long as the ambient temp is less than the rad temp via the magic of thermodynamics, specifically heat transfer rates, the flow of the coolant around the engine and through the rad will still aid in cooling your motor. Your pump is circulating coolant through the rad all the time it's running. Air flow over the rad simply makes this transfer more efficient. The level of impediment posed by a few few bent fins would be so insignificant that it would be beyond regular measurement. If the rad is very damaged however, ~60% of the fins surface area is damaged - then you would see a decrease in thermal transfer which could lead to overheating. I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that, I use powerwashers sparingly on bikes as it's quite easy to blow water past things like carb seals, brake caliper pistons. and electrics and cause damage.
  4. I avoid this by jet washing from a distance so the full power of the water stream isn't bending my fins. My 600 has an ally rad and the find are super easy to bend.
  5. Ideally without baking the engine... I know 2strokes don't overheat as quickly as 4bangers but when I rode my TXT 250 (2004) the other day in the woods it seemed to be kicking out a fair amount of heat, but without a temp gauge and not managing to find anything in the manual from GasGas I have no idea if my fan works or not. Is there way to test polarity/resistance with a multimeter?
  6. Don't tempt me bud. I get so jealous watching videos from the US and Aus.
  7. I do like lobster... Though I have no idea how to go about road registering an off road bike. I've seen trials for sale with numberplates and lights. But when I looked on the DVLA I couldn't make head nor tail of it. And couldn't find much about how much it costs or what you need to be legal, I assume the usual - head/tail light, reg plate, mot, tax, insurance, speedo. Because in truth is I'd really like to put it on the road. There are a few greenlanes only a spit from me and it would be easier to just hop on and ride there. The rack can be used for stuff further afield
  8. That's a is bud that's only about half hour from me.
  9. I'll grab some of that then. Thanks for the recommendation and the help both
  10. Like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/181902747041?chn=ps&adgroupid=54713458289&rlsatarget=pla-413909074316&abcId=1133936&adtype=pla&merchantid=101474286&poi=&googleloc=1006755&device=c&campaignid=1057753394&crdt=0
  11. I'll have to look into that for my car, thanks. Well once I have a rack to move the bike around easier I'll definitely come up your way. Guildford isn't too far for me.
  12. I feel like I might drop it a lot more than I already do if I made my clutch an on/off drive switch. I like a progressive engagement, being a complete novice. I'm gonna loop it enough as it is! haha Thanks for the advice on that. I'm still pretty new to 2smokers so that nugget of know-how is very handy. That's inserting as the manual states a 10w40/10w30 motorcycle oil for use in the sump. And usual Dot spec hydraulic fluid for the brakes/clutch,
  13. I've found plenty of dust caps for forks, very few seal and dust cover kits though. I'll continue searching the interwebs...
  14. My one runs and rides OK. But I just want it up to my personal mechanical standards. Its been a bit neglected. Finding most parts seems to be fairly easy. But apparently if you want fork seals you can only find either entire forks or dust covers. When you just need seals buying new forks is kinda like going to hell to light a cigarette.. Haha
  15. Looking for local GasGas service centres around me, thought I found one at Stiles garage, Battle, but when I called about getting fork seals done he said "yeah we don't really work on the GasGas". Great... I need fork seals done (which I can do myself, but I'm struggling to find the seal and bush kits) and whatever clown previous owner had the bike has managed to round one of the axel pinch bolts off on both sides - god only knows how, they're not torqued up much on any bike, usually somewhere around 20-25nm, even on my 600 - so they need removing and replacing too. I was really looking forward to dropping the front wheel out to inspect the axel, bearings and calipers today but no can do now... Any help muchly appreciated
  16. Live saver pal, I've been googling torque specs (I'm a bit OCD when it comes to torque) for ages. Thank you!!
  17. Sorry got my ratios a*** about face, yes you're right, a 1.5% is 70:1. (15ml/1000ml) I treat her nicely... haha
  18. I use Motul RBF 600 in my road bike, which is Dot 4, I did my brakes recently on my CBR so I think I have some left. The frame number indicates it's 03, but the bike is definitely and 04. So likely built in 03 but is an 04 model. The exhaust bend and clutch cover are different on the 03, so after perusing previous models on GasGas I identified it. But finding info on fluids is, well, in the manual it only lists the fork oil and sump oil, which is 10w40 but in the spec sheet - also from gasgas - it says 10w30. So either one should be ok I think. Mostly I just wanted to make sure I'm dropping in the right juice. Mix is 1.5% as well, which seems a little lean 15ml/1000ml, but I'm sure a 2% (20ml/1000ml 50:1) would be fine.
  19. Thanks for the warm welcome! I have found a local group, the EDMCC (Eastbourne and District Motorcycle Club) and sent them a message. Now all I have to do I figure out a safe way to attach my bike to my car, I only have am old Fiesta as I mostly use my road bike as my primary means of transport. Any ideas? Ratchet straps and ingenuity?
  20. Just bought a 2004 TXT 250 and am in the process of serving the bike so it runs as well as it can. I want to change all the fluids in the machine so I have a basemark to work from with future servicing. Wondered what people are using in terms of clutch, break and gearbox fluids. Also, slight trouble finding neutral, could this be down to bad gearbox oil? Thanks all
  21. From my extremely limited experience with trials, a whole 4 hours so far, I found it really hard work but hugely rewarding and loads of fun. I too recently bought a Trials bike to trian come core skills that I know will be applicable to enduro, dirt in general and road riding. you think your machine control is good... then you ride a trials bike! Have fun, try new things and the best part is if you fall off you'll probably only be doing about 5mph.
  22. I recently bought a 2004 GasGas TXT 250, I might be completely new to trials but I'm not new to spannering bikes. So today I stripped it all down and cleaned it all up, inch by inch and inspected as much as I could today and made a note of things that need changing/upgrading and or may need attention in the future. I didn't pay a lot so I expected to need to do a little work Things I did Downloaded the parts list and manual from GasGas Drained all the old mix from the tank as well and washed it out with fresh fuel, Inspected the spark plug. Seems to be running alright, not fouled. Electrode gap off by a fraction - may just replace it. Removed the bash plate and cleaned the engine casings - discovered the sump drain plug needs a new washer. All other gaskets seem to be holding tight. Stripped the plastics off and cleaned out the airbox - discovered needs a new air filter. Inspected the carb - needs a service and a needs a new linking section between the airbox and the carb. Inspected the front forks, no pitting but seals weeping slightly, so needs new seals. So may as well strip those down, juice them up with fresh oil and check the internals while I'm at it. Front tire needs replacing, serviceable but old and worn. Rear tire ok. Axel and running gear, calipers seem alright, but no harm at all in dropping the wheels out to inspect bearings and regrease things. Likely do that tomorrow. May as well bleed the brakes while I'm at it and drop fresh fluid in. May as well replace clutch fluid as well. Brake pads are ok, but may as well replace them as they're inexpensive. Discs are good. Chain old and greasy, cleaned that up, will adjust for slack otherwise seems in good condition. Sprockets are good. Next up will be checking the rear suspension linkages, regrease/replace anything that needs it. Rear wheel seems a bit p****d so will look at axial runout/axel/bearings, may replace. So got a pretty decent list but I'm looking forward to getting it back up to standard. I have ridden it and it rides alright and the engine runs well.
  23. Hello all. Last year I rode dirt for the first time after having ridden road bikes and really got the bug. Mostly just greenlaning but I had so much fun and learned so much. I really enjoyed the change of pace and different challenges coming from a sportbike. Later that year I sold my dirtbike and regretted it. So just the other day recently I purchased a 2004 GasGas TXT 250 pro as my first ever trials bike! Just riding it around my garden a bit and then a little in the woods near me I reignited that spark that started smouldering on my dirtbike. I loved how it felt and being new to 2 strokes added a whole new challenge. Mostly I just want to get out there, get muddy, make some friends and have a good time, maybe in the future to enter some competitions at a rookie/amateur level. Any pointers, local riders who are looking for an extra set of wheels to ride along with them (I'm based just outside of Eastbourne, East Sussex), hints, advice etc are all welcomed. I'm very new to this but really eager to learn and improve.
