  1. How about a picture of the settup ? Just use a vice is not very descriptive for some folks LOL
  2. It pays to be conservative doing this kind of mod, it ALSO helps if you use some kind of magnification. A jewellers head set if one is available. With that approach the tabs will show very little reduction in size, one can even make an emery board and use it istead of a file though a cut 6 18cm needle file is the ideal starting tool. Followed buy some medium to FINE emery paper. I also recomend washing the plates after working on them, this keeps the residue from the emery paper out of the engine (remember you are using an abrasive material and that can get into the working parts elsewhere in the engine if not washed off). Note to all I am a goldsmith (for 60 years) so small details are my thing :-)
  3. Like Dan says ? Perhaps if you do any more tabs start with an 18cm cut 6 Barret needle file and maybe then a fine emery paper (not wet and dry) from a jewellers supply house. HS Walsh & Sons, Hunter House, Biggin Hill Airport, Churchill Way Biggin Hill, Kent TN16 3BN United Kingdom. These guys have good materials and will likely sell a couple of sheets of medium and fine rather than a choir, far too much for one job. AND clean the needle file clean after each tab, you can use a thumb nail and scrap the teeth of the file at a 45% angle.
  4. First I would suggest a thorough clean, looks like at som point the oil was left in too long and all that sticky stuff stuck to part of the plates sitting in t6he dirty oil. Do you mean two of the plates are thicker, if so thats correct. so clean then do the mod and clean agin before reinstalling. Let us know the results you get.

Interesting but it's not the same as my factory clutch so perhaps its now updated, I can say for sure mine had issues and doing tabs , removing excess glue adding washers on top of the springs have turned it into a very smooth mechanism that I no longer have to worry about and I can concentrate on riding now :-)

  8. In this I disagree based on the fact that IF you do not have the right equipment you can easily finish up with a clutch basket that's out of balance. Now IF you have a good drill press and a calibrated center dial go for it. Trouble is I have seen folks spend money replacing parts when they mess them up and in this case I do not know who I am making suggestions too so I take the safest route to begin with, I trust you see my reasoning. As for the link I know that to be a good product and we did similar procedures on triumphs and Nortons back in the 60's ?
  9. Oh yes I get that and I also understand the two procedures polishing tabs and removing glue. But I have seen two people try the thrust washer addition and neither made much difference (on one nothing) . So if I am missing something please tell as I can share it with folks. I do understand what is being attempted as on older machines we just adjusted the locknut and screw in the face plate of the clutch thus lengthening the thrust rod, even in some cases a fresh rod and bal would fix it. Also cos its internet stuff you may not realise I am 75 and been around bikes since I was 16 , never took my bike to a shop, no need to. Best regards from the Old Fart ?
  10. This is just my 10 cents and nothing more so make of what you will. If you take the time to read this thread you will see the successful people are doing the work. There is no quick fix for mechanical improvements , remove clutch components clean polish and add washers to relieve preload it really is that straightforward. Don't do the work you won't get results. I did and others tried my bike then immediately did there own with equal benefit.
  11. The hydraulics are compensating you need to put washers under the spring bolts to make any difference, it's simple mechanics ?
  12. I think drilling holes is a bad idea especially if you have not cleaned the glue and polished the tabs. Cleaning the glue will probably fix this issue as the symptoms sound like a lack of oil in between the plates but while you have it in pieces do the washers under the spring bolts, 1.2mm should be good
  13. Yes we need an English translation, there are some minor details not quite clear also I am not sure the center washer is setup the same on my 2018 300 4T so will chech and get back here with a comment later.

  15. Hi Dan and the rest of the folks reading this thread. I have finished doing the clutch on my 300 4T factory bike and although the spring pull is fairly firm, the whole movement of the clutch lever is Soooo smooth now. I also did my 390 RR 4T and the improvements to that are amazing. Now I will tell you I have been hand making jewellery for nearly 60 years, what's that got to do with it you ASK ! Well a number of advantages, I have very trained eyes for detail and tools most folks don't even know exist. I removed the excess glue from between the fibre pads with a flat hand carving tool, somewhat like a wide hand engraving cutter. There is no glue as I got it down to the bare metal including the grooves in the tabs. Next I took a cut 4 hand file and cleaned the leading and trailing edges of the tabs with just enough stroke to do the job, then one light stroke to remove the sharp edges. Next I polished them with a fine emery paper (not wet and dry) , All the time I was using my +3 headset and my working glasses. Now you will understand better Why I mentioned what I do. The point is, it pays to get in there visually so you see and understand what exactly you are achieving. I hope my information will help someone to do the best job they can.
