You make some interesting points there. I have a 2010 250 and it does 'all of the above'. I have tried changing various jets as per advice on the forums but the bike still pinks regardless and wont tickover cleanly.
I'd be interested in altering the timing but I don't have the expertise, if there is anyone in the sheffield area who has done this i would like to hear from you.
I love the bike, it suits me perfect but i am loosing the will to live and it may have to go.

Ok gents, an update on the above.
I've fitted the inline filter and shortened the tank breather at the same time.
I've removed the carb and the pilot is already a 33, there was another jet that had 122 on it, is this the main jet?
I attempted to drop the clip on the needle as Copemech suggested but I couldn't see how to do this, any suggestions?
Also I was thinking if the timing was slightly out could this cause the problem?
Cheers

Cheers lads, that's great.
I'm using super unleaded which i think is 98 RON. I've done the fuel line mod but will recheck it and will also clean the pump out.
I'm not sure what the pilot jet size is but the 33 sounds like a good option.
I'll keep you posted as to the outcome. Watch this space as they say.
Many thanks

Hi all, I have recently purchased a new 2010 250 and have been out a couple of times since. I have noticed what sounds like a 'clunk' or 'knock' when the engine is revved under load, say when climbing a hill.
At low revs it seems ok. I've done the usual like check the mixture screw and made sure the flow from the tank is ok.
Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Gents
What's the potential running problems with the above problem. The exhaust is leaking from the header.

Has anybody tried to contact Kliponoff recently. I do know that the business has been sold on and moved to Nelson in Lancs I think but the telephone number was redirected to the new owners.
I have tried in the last week and the number is now not recognised, wondered if anybody knew who or how to contact the new owners?
Cheers

Hi
My advise to you would be not to bother with either. I'm assuming the 08 280 has a little more poke than my 05 280 but all I did was put on a slow action throttle and it works a treat.
Hope this helps

I had the same decision to make although mine is an 05 280, my advise to you is don't bother with either, spend a tenner on a slow action throttle, this will make a big difference.

Cheers lads
Appreciate the comments, I have noticed that my bike kicks back every now and then, I'll take a good look at the areas you advised and hopefully nothing else will break.

Hi
I've recently bought an 05 280 Gasser after 12 months on an 05 250 Beta, I love the bike, especially the engine and the way it rides. What I don't like is parts breaking on me.
I've had the bike 3 weeks and already the kickstart lever has broken and now the bolts in the clutch lever bracket have sheared when I tried to remove them. This is after a number of hours having break free oil sprayed on them.
What I really want to know is, am I just unlucky or are there areas on the Gassers that I need to pay particular attention to?
Hope you can help me
Cheers

Does anybody know what the figures are for the steering head angle and wheelbase between the GasGas Pro and Beta Rev3 250 are?

Brilliant lads
I'll give the shop where I bought the chain from a go first, if that fails it'll BVM.
Glad you had the same problem R2W, I thought I was going nuts.

Cheers for the replies lads
Paul, not sure what you mean by the chain tensioner, isn't it on a spring which should put tension onto the chain.
You've got me wondering now whether the chain tensioner is working properly

Guys
Just fitted a new set of chain and sprockets to my 05 Beta.
Sprockets are standard tooth sizes, Talon 41 rear 11 front, Regina 520 chain
Problem I have is the new chain seems to be too long with the standard number of links in(50), but too short with 1 link removed.
With all the links in I had to set the cam adjusters at full, and there was still plenty of slack, with 1 link out I couldn't even get the chain close to getting the split link in even with the wheel and cam adjusters fully forward.
I've measured the old chain and that had 49 full links.?
Any ideas or am I missing something, like a clue?
Cheers

Cheers for the replies lads
In my defense, I didn't know it didn't have any packing in, I bought the bike from a dealer, secondhand admittedly, I just assumed it had some in.
Just goes to show, should check these things.

Bit of a question to all you Beta experts
I decided to remove the exhaust internals after riding today, no particular reason as the bikes been running great, just thought it was about time I checked it.
When I removed it I found that there was shaft all packing in there, apart from a small black charred piece on the bottom.
Question is, what effect will repacking it with new insulation have and what effect on the bike will having no packing in there have?
Cheers

Just finished watching the DVD of this years six days, I'd heard that it was a tough one but christ, rocks, rocks and more rocks with water thrown in for good measure. I was worn out watching it.
Much respect to all those who finished it, I might be fit enough in about 10 years.

Cheers R2Wtrials, will give it a look.
I also thought it might be the water pump, mindless guess I think, or is it clutching at straws.
Took your advise on the carb 2, spent 1 1/2 hours trying to start it on sunday with much kicking it over, cursing, bump starting etc. only to find out there was no spark and **** in the carb.
I really do despair of myself sometimes.

Im amazed to see its got a reserve price on it.

More info please
Has anyone ever had a rattle from the engine, similar in sound to a dry clutch rattle, but not as loud.
My 05 250 started to do it on Sunday, interestingly it stopped when the bike was pointing downhill, regardless whether the clutch was in/out.
It would also stop on its own accord just ticking over but would start again if i revved the engine. I thought it was gonna seize on me but there is loads of compression and the bike starts everytime.
Any ideas lads?
Cheers in advance

I'll give it a go and hopefully it will sort things out. Looks like this is a regular issue.

Hello
I know this subject has probably done the rounds before but here goes anyway.
I've recently bought a 2005 Rev3 250, on the first outing I noticed that on the overrun with a closed throttle the engine was very lumpy, kinda fire then misfire sort of thing, I decided to take a look at the carb(DOH!)all seems well apart from the rear vent tube had melted against the exhaust.
Its now back together but it wont run unless im keeping some throttle open, I've adjusted the tickover to no avail and set the air screw to 1 1/2 turns out from fully in. I have noticed that the plug is as black as yer hat, I've been told to run it at 80:1
Any ideas what may be causing my problems.
Cheers in advance
