  1. Bearings adjusted too tightly?
  2. I moved the foot rests down and back about 1 1-2" each way on my KT-250. It made a huge difference in comfort and manuverability. I also used some modern pegs on my Cota 242 that were made to lower as well as move back foot position 1/2" each. This sounds minimal but it also improve comfort and functionability noticably.
  3. I'll definetly keep in touch and give you some feedback. Clanking drop offs have always been a problem at my weight. So much so I may avoid doing it too much in fear of damaging something.
  4. I'm about 240 and always thought the Rev-3 as well as most any other trials bike are a bit soft for anyone over 175 lbs. Thanks for all of the detailed information and contact number. This is very helpful.
  5. I do weigh over 200 lbs and had wondered about the stiffer srpings. Where did you buy the fork and shock springs? Are they Beta items.
  6. Fresh off 2 consecutive Rev-3 Betas, this EVO 250 is insanely light, narrow and fun!! I don't have much time on it but the difference is immediately noticable. Great machine from a GREAT company!
  7. Oh yeah, where exactly were they breaking? I've heard at the petcock or the rear shock mount. How about the swingarm?
  8. Thanks PA, in that case mine must be a first batch version. The only thing that worries me is that this is a very low hour bike and may not have been ridden enough to expose the problem. It's doubtful that Beta would honor breakage given it's age even though total hours ridden are very low. What do you think? Hopefully it will turn out to be a non issue.
  9. Are there any ways to tell if the 2009 Beta EVO I just bought is an 'updated' frame or an original issue frame that were prone to breakage? Serial numbers, visable traits, etc. Thanks!
  10. Good point observer, really good point. Maybe it should fall on the entire trials community not just TTC or whoever's hosting it???
  11. From what I understand, there's some sort of massive fee associated when the teams travel outside of Europe that is basically to help the teams with the expenses of traveling overseas. This is charged to the promoter which makes it near impossible for them to break even on hosting one. This is all hear-say though.
  12. Do the age groupers ride the same line as the Sportsman class riders?
  13. Thinking of trying the Twin-Shock line at TTC this year. What is the TS line comparble to? Do they ride the same line as the Clubmen?
  14. Had the same problem on my '08 250. In the end, it ended up being the floating rotor. It sounded much like a loose headset.
  15. Hey, I noticed your screen name is 1oldbanjo. The guy I bought my 4RT from makes custome bajos and restores old one. If you want his info PM me and I'll send it to you.
  16. Biggest problem I've heard and experienced is that the ethanol mix gas clogs carbs in no time flat along with staining fiberglass tanks. the local KTM dealer told me they do 10x the carb cleans per week than they did pre-ethanol days. A mixed blessing for dealer I assume. I used to have to run a mix of race gas (110 octane) and high test gas (93 octane) in my GG to keep it from pinging. It also had better bottom end response with the higher octane blend. When I started riding Betas I found out I could get away with 93 octane with no ill effects. I recently bought a 1983 Montesa Cota with a fiber-glass tank and the owner advised me to find a source for non-ethanol gas unless i was OK with a brown gas tank or wanted to drain my fuel after every ride to avoid the staining. Luckily, using the same 'Ethanol free gas stations in the US & Canada' site I found an ethanol free station within 15 minute drive from where I work. Nearest source for the race gas that I know of is 50 minutes drive but I pass by there frequently so I just get 2-4 gallons at the time and mix with some 93 octane. Glenn, so you think I'd be OK to go straight 110 race gas or would you keep mixing? Anyone know if there is any negative aspect to running straight 110 octane race gas in a 4RT? Bottom line IMO is the current gas offering is just low quality crap like so many other things in our society these days in an effort to increase profitability! - Rant over!
  17. Where can you order these (Silkolene Pro 4t in the engine & the ELF HTX )from in the USA?
  18. Does the fender on the modified bike hit the frame or pipe?
  19. thanks, I had the same idea of using a high quality rounded allen head screw to attach it with. I'll post some pics when I finish.
  20. I am in the process of redoing a Montesa Cota 242, 1983 model and I ordered new tank straps to go on the freshly painted tank. I have all of the pieces according to a manual I found on line but it isn't making sense to me. What I have is two straps, each of which have a pull tab with a metal loop just above the pull tab on one end that I'm assuming clips onto the frame hooks and the other end that attaches under the tank is just enlarged at the end of the strap in a cylindrical shape with a small hole going through the length of the cylinder shaped rubber part. By logic I would assume another metal loop would go through the small hole running the length of the cylindrical shaped piece of rubber at the end of the strap. Looking at the parts manual, the only thing shown under the tank with the end of the strap in question is a bracket that is shaped like a triangle with a hole at the top of it for a bolt and an oblong hole at the base of it. Do I just feed the strap through the oblong hole and let the enlarged tubular part of the strap with the tiny hole in it hold itself in place by resistance alone or am I missing something? By the way, the bike had make shift tank straps when I got it so refering to them doesn't help me much..... I realize this may be hard to follow without a picture....
  21. My '06 was sort of ratty, well worn, etc but I always rode it better than the '08 for some reason..... You're right about the pilot vs bike thing I think. Peg time is more important than the actual bike probably.
  22. I had an '06 and an '08. The differences to me riding the bikes were minimal. For whatever reaso, the '06 was easier to balance on. It had quiet a bit more time on it when I got it than the '08 when I got it since the '08 was basically brand new. The '06 had been ridden quiet a bit and the suspension felt more worn in or setteld. Oddly though, right before I sold my '08 I re-jetted it and it became much easier to control so my difficulties in balancing the '08 may have been more atributed to the jetting than the suspension. The frames changed in '07 but I couldn't tell you what the differences were. I have been told that the '08 did not have magnesium cases and therefore were less prone to deteriorating. I never had any carb problems with either bike like I have read about on this forum. I'm in the US and the importer supposedly did whatever 'fix' was needed before ever shipping bikes to customers. After having two Betas I have total confidence in the brand and would buy one of their enduro versions over more popular brands based on my experience of reliability and bullet proof quality. As far as differences from EVO to Rev-3, I know the EVOs are quiet a bit lighter. I heard the '09 EVO 250 was 13 lbs. lighter than an '08 Rev-3. The '11 EVO dropped another pound in the rear wheel alone and probably a little more in other areas. Ride-wise, the '09 EVOs that I have ridden felt lighter, the front ends felt lighter, they are and feel more narrow. The suspension feels more sophisticated in action. '09s were undersprung pretty badly if you weigh more than say 150 lbs. Either way, great bikes IMO!!!
  23. what wipers can be used on the 242 forks? I'm having problems finding wipers for mine.
  24. I'm thinking of trying the same length on a 125. I think standard length is slightly longer. Hope handling remains OK.
  25. Like the title says, my blue rebound knob is top of my right fork leg is stuck and won't turn. Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?
