I must admit I am the one riding the Bultaco 340 with the white helmet, making that silly fiasco in the wet rock, opening the throttle where I should have used the inertia. Slightly better in the other 2 sections where I appear, but not good. It was the first time using that bike. (Excuses.....)
Slapshot: About B.J. and OTF, in Japan they consider their old glories as "living treasures", so maybe they should have a "golden route" better than that pink one you claim for.
TFT: I don

It looks only 270 of this 198B where produced. And none of them here in Spain

Hi Nigel Dabster: There are 4 routes Red and Blue are quite difficoult, 10 pilots raced in red this year and 20 in blue, winners loosed 16 marks in red and 24 in blue.
Most popular are green and yellow (the easy one) with arround 95 pilots in green and 60 in yellow this year. Mick Andrews won in green loosing 6 marks, Yrjo Vesterinen was 3rd with 21 marks. Belive me in green 30 or 40 marks is not bad at all. 20 sections per day with 30 km. route in the mountains north to Madrid.
2008 edition will be 24 & 25 May. With Bernie Schreiber racing this year with a Bultaco 199A in green route.

Hi Peter: The bike is quite good, but the engine is just a 197 cc. so no much power. As you can see it is all original, frame, hubs, yokes, forks. We have buil it an aluminium air filter and plastic mudguards out of Bultaco mudguards in the rear and modern bike in the front (GasGas), and a Bultaco 340 side stand. NJB shocks painted as the frame. The tank is a Beamish. The engine is completely rebuilt with some little improvements inside.
Unfortunately the ignition is the big headache. Talking with Mick Andrews in Cabrianes past October he confirmed the ignitions of this bikes can give big problems, but is looks Alan Whitton has the solution. Now cross fingers and wait for Alan

Thanks to my friends Merc

Hi Bilco: There is a hotel just 50 metres away from the start, it is all booked by Sotobike Motoclub and pilots coming from far away have the priority in the reservations. I think it is a good idea you send me an email to greeves@telefonica.net so we can block the rooms for your group, and answer any other question you can have.

OTF: I guess the ignition I have in my 197 James is the one from Simon. It came to an abrupt stop up in the moors (where nobody wants to break down, near where you where observing) past Scottish Pre-65, after crossing a river.
It is funny to see what happens now with that ignition, as the bike starts and runs perfectly when cold, but when the bike starts warming up, the ignition timing changes. The warmer, the later the ignition works, untill it is impossible for the engine to keep running. As you know I am now waiting for Alan

Bilco: We will see you in Robregordo 2008???
Past guests: Sammy Miller, Mick Andrews, Charles Coutard, Ulk Karlsson, Yrj

Confirmed. Robregordo 2008 will be 24 & 25 May. With a very special guest........ worth racing with him

Hi Paul: To insert pics directly I think you have to be a site supporter. If you are not you can go to www.imageshack.us or any similar page, host there the photos and then copy the link in your post.
Thanks for the info. Maybe you want to sell that bike and send it to Spain??
In my 199B I use the Michelins with the Magicals shocks (developed last year by Mick Andrews). I tell you they are really magicals. Pirelli as you say are hard like rocks, maybe in sand there are not so bad, but in wet rocks..... those tyres are dangerous.

Thanks John Collins and Big John: I have a friend here with a nice and big twinshock collection, last friday (puclic holliday in Spain) he came to ryde in my home near Segovia. He asked me if I have one 198B as he has been looking for one in Spain for a long time. I thought that model was easy to find, but; big surprise for me ; there are none here in Spain.
It would be nice to know the total production of those bikes, my friend says there where built less than 200 units, and that sounds a very little number to me. Do you know if they had 5 or 6 speed??? And founding 1 or 2 to buy for my friend and me is "science fiction" or something possible???
-
Hi there: there is a debate in Spain about the model 198B. Some say it never existed, some say there where very few bikes produced and all exported to UK and France, even some say it had only 5 speed, not 6 as the 199B.
All the Bultaco documets from the factory disapeared when it close in the 80

Hi all: Blai Jove rode an Ossa in the 2006 Scottish Pre-67, he was 85th. with 69 points (I beat him....). Blai is very closely related to the Ossa owners and he is actually working very close to trials, building shocks and producing all kind of oils for trials bikes.
Being a Spanyard makes me quite close to our old trials bikes, specially with Bultaco that was generous enogh to put one of their bikes in my hands to ride for them when I was only 17 and 18.
I really undesrtand and support using British bikes in the Pre-65, as the event was born with that idea. But I have a question about foreign bikes (and also about some British bikes), I will try to explain myself as good as possible in my English.
I consider a prototype as a unique bike, this means that when it was built it was for shure an actual bike. I understand that any original prototype Ossa, Montesa, Bultaco, Jawa, Honda, Terrot, Motobecane..... is elegible with the actual regulations (if you can prove your bike is the one). But here is the problem, there are some bike that are "actual prototypes" with this I mean bikes that have been built up with any pre-65 frame, engine, hubs, jokes or whatsoever. Although you can say the bike is a pre-65, it is not really a trials bike that already existed then.
To be or not to be Eligible??????
This is the big dilema, and a big headache for the commette I belive.

As swooshdave says, you can also relocate the condenser to under the tank, so it

Hi Fantic 300 Pro: Sorry as my English is not perfect. The problem is the condensator (I hope it is the correct word in English). This is a very common problem in the Bultacos. Change it also the points and spark plug, and as Bo driker says, also check the coil.
You can also put an electronic ignition and you will never have this problem again.

I agree with every word from BJ. - """Back to basic trials as it used to be""" -
This last year I was loosing my enthusiasm for the classic trials quite quickly, with some exceptions as Robregordo, Cabrianes and the Scottish Pre-65 I really felt I was close to leave the competitions very soon.
But after this trip to Aviemore I think it really worth having some old bikes in the garage to race in this kind of trials, and to share them with some friends. I will be there next year, thanks to Malcolm, Alex and Tommy as now I can remember I am in classic trials for sports and friends and not for competition.
The Scottish hospitality was very generous with us and we really felt like being at home. Thanks for that.

Just back from Inverness, where I have beeen riding the Highlands Pre-65 & Twinshock 2 Days Trial.
I would like to thank the Club for the trial that was so good, I will return next year most probably on a Pre-65, or maybe a Bultaco????? Got one year to decide.....
I would like to thank so many people that for shure I will forget somebody; Jock, Malcolm, Nigel, Mel...... but specially to BJ

14T in the front and 52T in the rear. But maybe for the actual classic trials it is a bit long.

There is a story in Spain about one of those pilots (will never say who not even the speciality in which he raced).
Some of them in their beginnings did not have enough to buy a proper bike and mantain it for all the season. The seasons are long, bikes, journeys, hotels, food, petrol, spares..... Without a proper sponsor or a full wallet it is difficoult to make the hole season.
There are some big stores in Spain called El Corte Ingles, where even bikes are sold, and in the 70

Very good photos, and the videos of the French round are really good. Thanks

That aluminium tamk is a beauty, I would love to have one

IMPORTANT: Make shure that when you put the coil in the frame ("Bobina de alta" in that diagram) there is no paint at all in that part of the frame in between the contact of the coil and the frame, as many times in Bultaco
