I have sheared several things in my life and usually broken the easy-out as well! So what I do is "very carefully" centre punch the remaining part of the stud (in the centre of course) and again very carefully drill very slowly with a small drill , then up the size in 1mm increments to the size just below the internal size of the thread of the bolt or stud. \usually I can then extract the remaining thread which is by then nothing more than a coil and then remove any residue with a pointed rod or something similar. Clean up the internal thread and pop in a new bolt/stud. Done this many times with AJS/Matchless forks where they use studs. Hope this helps. Big John

I would tend to agree, its either fallen into the crankcase during the rebuild or it has been in through the airbox, only two believable entry routes, its via the induction tract one way or another! I had a short length of copper wire stop a Bultaco motor recently and fortunately didn't do any damage, parts of it were fornd on top of the piston in fact. Again a previous rebuild with the said "foreign body" entering the motor when not protected by a rag or blanking piece was the most likely culprit! And before anyone says something, I hadn't rebuilt this particular motor myself. I do tend to "blank off" with duct tape, the inlet tract even when I'm working on a carburettor!!! Big John

Well in 1968/69 NVT owned the AJS brand and they decided to build their own 2 stroke trials bike the 37A/T and they wanted to use the Villiers exclusively for thier own product. Also AJS made the "Stormer" MX machine with an uprated Starmaker Villiers power plant. I think the NVT company was also part of Manganeze Bronze Holdings. Greeves switched to the Austrian built Puch 6 speed 169cc power-plant for their new Pathfinder, which the factory lads hatee, all except Mick Wilkinson, his brother Bill loathed the Puch engined bike and he shifted to Ossa imported by his long time pal Peter Fletcher. Sorry Sparks2, but you are wrong on this one, I have spoken to the man himself today at around 2.30pm, it was his Dalesman, he bought it from Terry new and the bike wasn't in his name the year he had it the bike, it wasn't registered in Nigel's name but Terry's. Nigel bought it back in around 1973/74 and it was registered in his name at that time before he sold it on. Nigel has been watching the thread himself but hasn't posted on here for quite a while. Nigel also confirmed the bike that followed was indeed a Cotton as you say. So Swampy, you do have the ex-Nigel M. Greenwood Dalesman!
