Single race day at Mallory Park, 4 races of about ten minutes each, 150 quid entry fee, 300 quid on tyres, 50 quid on fuel, crash damage is on top, trials is by far the cheapest bike sport.
-
Diazepam is also helpful after the first hour.
-
Big ratchet strap, and I've also used extra long bolts to pull the plate into line and then swapped the bolts individually. I've usually found it easier to fit the front bolts first so the threads are half way in then fit the back ones if that helps.

I'm not sure what the interval check is for the tappets but I've not yet found one 4rt owner who's had to alter them, and although we all change the oil and filters as often as we can (20min job) deep down we all know we could probably leave the job for a year or two without any problems. Being totally honest, oil changes gives the dusty spanner 4rt owners something to do in the shed, and provides justification for socket sets and spanners even if most of the time they gather dust and cobwebs.
There are endless things I love about the 4rt, yes she's a fat old lass and I'd probably improve my results rising something else but for me trials is now all about smiles, and there's no other bike that does that as much for me.

Thanks for all the comments and advise, much appreciated, I didn't shorten the video as I couldn't work out how to cut/edit the video length on movie maker but have got the hang of it now. I'll aim any future videos being 4-5 minutes long which will help with youtube upload speeds, and as shedracer has said, incorporate a few other angles at the same time. It will be good to take some video somewhere grip isn't an issue due to mud and ice to give the camera and its mounts a good test when being kicked around a little but that may have to wait a few weeks yet?
The chest mount is far better than the helmet view and I'm keen of seeing what the number board and fork leg shots come out like over the weekend.

Thanks Michael, although ending my vids with a super slow mo "slash" might get me an internet ban in the UK.
-
Reminds me of yet another thing I love about the 4rt,
-
70ml in 5 litres using Castrol TTS, and I would always measure accurately and mix it well before use.

Didn't realise the front wheel was Heather, and the lack of throttle is down to very slippery ground conditions and possibly the 4rt not revving like a 2 stroke does (its been so long since I rode one I cant remember) but you don't need much throttle to ride over average size obstacles if your weight is back making the front wheel very light. I don't think the sound quality helps either, listening to the clip I'm sure I would have used more throttle so I'll use the non waterproof casing next time to see if audio is better.

Think the chest shots are the best place for the camera although I will try the number board this week. Michael, this is the chest harness I used with my camera, its really good and holds the camera tight into the body so no jumping about.

I'll take a look at the editing software this evening thanks, I'm using Movie maker at the moment which may not be as good as GoPro's own.

First test with the GoPro Hero3 yesterday with very uninspiring ground conditions of either totally frozen rocks or rocks covered in very slippery mud, but I did pluck up enough courage to ride some of them to give the camera a test.
I've taken the video using a chest harness which seems to give a good view from a trials bike perspective, although I might try lowering it slightly next time and tilting it up more which might help terrain viewing. It can be mounted just below the headstock on the number board which may be even better? and I'll try that next weekend as long as vibration or heavy impacts don't mess things up too much, or try it on a fork leg as I've not seen that before on a trials bike?
I've been very impressed with the cameras functions/ease of use and quality of pictures although YouTube doesn't do the images the justice they deserve including sound the quality, and if anyone has any tips on increasing youtube upload speeds please let me know as this 13 minutes video took four hours to upload?

Get it swapped for a Mich X-Lite or your money back, I've had this problem in the past month, no problems with the XLite I've swapped it for. Shame as the IRC is the best for the mud.

Pete, check the site glass on the side of the casing to make sure its not milky, ask how often the clutch oil is changed and general maintenance. Bearings are easy to sort as you know as are headstock and suspension. Rear shocks can be expensive so make sure it works ok and adjusts.

On a serious note though engines rev up when they are running out of fuel because they are running far to lean, letting them do this regularly, or in your case reving the knackers off it may nip it up if not seize it solid. As above, put fuel in it when needed, kill the motor if it is running out.

Being honest, any trials bike will be a handful if you've not ridden one before, the R6 will count for nowt as will the mx bike. Trials is fantastic fun, cheap, a very sociable sport and once hooked you may never leave. I've had an 06 Beta and it was a good bike to me, the Gasser? not had that year so wont comment. The Beta may leak petrol from the carb, its an easy sort if if bothers you although its not a running issue, and they are prone to stator failures (not all) Buying a well used second hand bike like anything is Russian Roulette, if you know anyone who already rides take them along for a test ride and to spot any mechanical issues, or hopefully you will have enough replies on both bikes (pro's and cons) to make a good judgement yourself.
A 200 would be a good option although rare, 250 next, the 270-300 can be quite lively lol.

One of the many things I love about the 4rt is it runs exactly the same every day I start it up no matter where or what time of the year.
-
Although I have run out of fuel in the past that has to be the easiest, cheapest and most logical fix anyone could have posted up.
-
I'm so glad I have a Mont.

-
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year,
-
I'd go for warn or dirty needle valve or seat.
-
WD40 for me and have done for years, chain is always nice and clean and easy to wash, I do like Baldilocks chainsaw oil idea as I use it everyday, might give it a go.
-
Chris, a mate of mine can beat both of us by some margin,
-
Nice one Chris, although it wont beat quite a major strip down only to find the culprit being an exhaust bung still in the pipe after washing.
