Couple of mates went to the test day and said the Sherco did'nt ride very nice at all, and they're Blue through and through. Like to have a go on one though just to see how it carburates, odd no-one has posted yet who's ridden it?

Jordan, a side stand isnt essential, most take them off straightaway as they have a habbit of breaking during riding or getting in the way. Why does the airbox need replacing???? might be worth doing an advert on the TC classifieds for the bits, new airbox will be mega money new i bet

They wear quickly, did'nt get a chance to try it in the mud as I had it earlier in the year. You can almost put them on with your hands, very soft bead, have heard they pucture easy on rocks or split. Was a good tyre but not so good as to replace the X11 for the extra money.

I bought a new bike just about every year, reason? because they were tired by then and needed changing before you started ploughing money into them. The Mont doesnt seem to get tired, mine certainly isnt after 3 years of abuse, so no need to change. Honda have made as odd as it seems "to good a bike" - "to reliable" - "to expensive"
I'm a massive 4rt fan, and I would love a new one simply for the fact its a new bike, theres no way on earth I'm parting with nearly 7k for a trials bike though when the one I've got already is good. These bikes need to be 4.5k to shift them if thats what they want, and they need to hold that price for some time untill a new model comes out.

Good tyre, goes down over night though, not sure if its any better than the X11 and no-where near as good as the IRC. Tyre distorts a hell of alot on rocks and even on cambers, I wont be buying another, I prefer the IRC down here in the mud

Get a tow bar on the car you have now and buy a rack, the rack will fit your next car so its just the cost of fitting the tow bar, ask your boss if the company will pay for it and deduct the cost from your wages at Gross, should save you a few quid that way.

Just commented on your other post, if you have to do that it might be easier to drop the forks out with the wheel, might get away with leaving the back wheel in so it slides better.

You'll put your bloody back out mate get a tow bar and bike rack if you dont want a trailer or van, you'll soon get sick of pulling a bike to bits to load it especially when its got 4 inch of mud all over it/p***ing down and cold

I think the Surgeon had an 03, I did abit of an overhaul on it couple of years ago and was very impressed how well they are put together. Carb is bit tricky but doesnt seem to get dirty to much so shouldnt need much regular cleaning. Could'nt fault it for build quality and pretty sure Dan never had any probs with it.

Thats my main concern is the observing of non stop at many venues here, I do a fair share of observing and have no problem or pressure with the stop allowed rules, but non stop brings pressure and hassle to an observer. Its unpaid, most of the time bloody freezing cold or p***ing down then you get some **** arguing the toss whether he stopped or not when blatently he did. The 1 mark for a stop rule was a joke down here as I have said earlier and finally the ACU realised this and went back to stop allowed, if we get non stop now,we'll back to stop allowed within two years again for that reason.
Routes? yes to many, I can remember two routes only (eighties) and getting mighty scores when I started but soon got better for it, many routes are way to easy even for begginers, I just cant see how they ever progress or learn from it. I am a fan of the 50/50 route around here though, I am approaching the age where some of the hard route sections makes me let abit of p*** out and sometimes have to ask for a five. The clubman route is too easy for me to drop down at club trials so a 50/50 option at a hard route stool pusher trial is spot on for the likes of me and many in my position (and there are many)
My view on the routes these days are at club level, make the hard route as a hard route, setting out a 50/50 route takes no more work at all and should allow the better clubman riders move up a route and ease the clubman route so the novices can have a go instead of putting on a 4th or even 5th route. Many hard route riders could do the 50/50 route if they want a better challenge than the clubman route and a safer/easier one than the hard. Something else I have noticed is there are alot of 40-60 year olds out there who rarley compete these days as clubman is not challenging enough and the hard route way to challenging. I would like to see two routes only like many Nationals, but this would be a real tough day for many starting out on the modern trials bike and pre 65's/trail.
I can remember watching the Colmore (BTC then i think) years ago when Lampkin/Rathmal/Vesty were riding it, there was a climb at Saintbury with a huge run up, quite a few didnt get up, top lads did, this climb now would,nt even be considered today as a hard route section at club level as everyone would p*** it. The bikes these days are so good you need much much harder/dangerous things to go at, from my own point of view these harder sections is what puts off perfectly capable riders from doing the hard route unlike years ago when the climbs etc didnt look so big (expect they looked big from what you were riding). Yes there was a good chance you wouldnt get up or over something but unlikely you'd have a massive get off. The hard route for many has got to hard and dangerous for most to have a go at so new routes have evolved to cater for the majority.

Earl Silton is a great venue as you know, not much need for mega tight turns there as theres plenty to go at. I'm not contradicting myself (I hope) my original concern is, if no stop comes here observers will not mark a stop as a five, like they never did or very rarely gave a stop a 1 last year? its what will happen I guarantee it, so going back to my first few posts, what is the point of non stop on the hard route.
I will at every chance ride a turn rather than hop, I,m good at hopping and enjoy riding like that but there are many turns you simply cant ride around without stopping or hopping. As good as I know you are you have just said what another of my worries will be for no stop down here, the gap will be bigger, you can easily get around a tight turn non stop where many wont and will be fived for it instead of a dab or a hop for clean.

My 07 4rt is prob worth about 2,300 ish, its had alot of use over the past 3 years, maybe 1500-1800 hours, SSDT and Scott but still feels strong and full of life. I've owned plenty of 2 stroke bikes and with that sort of weekly use they're pretty tired after a year or so and start to cost money, the Mont doesnt and I look upon mine as a really cheap way to go Trialling, way cheaper than any 2 stroke I've ever bought.
The problem I have with buying a new Mont is the new price of them, mines still good for years yet and after riding much later models I still prefer mine so why upgrade? I would love to have a new Mont but as I said, the price is wrong

Many of these turns are impossible to ride around without hopping so no gain there, they're that tight so they take marks from the hoppers and no hoppers, If I can ride round a tight turn I always will, but you usually can't. They're set out like this as its the only way to take marks at some venues as theres nothing else to do it. Why do many harp back to the good old days B*****ks, the sport like many has evolved, riders are better and more skilled as a whole due to the bike technology and have more time to learn, yes years ago simple things were hard to clean but remember you had drum brakes that hardly worked, about half the power,cable clutches and twice the weight. The venues 30 years ago would have been easier to set out sections then than now

Fair play Jordi, did the weather/ground conditions help the more open sections or is the venue quite good. I have noticed how some of the major hop riders can get themselves in alot of bother doing too much sometimes in sections when a steady throttle is best. I can hop pretty well and enjoy riding like that, but old enough to know when a hop is a route to disaster in a section. The trial I did last weekend pretty much could be ridden non stop but that was due to the ground being very wet and slippy, not sure what the CoC would have come up with in the summer when dry there though.

I always used the precut sections from BVM Moto to repack the silencer, worked well and quite easy to do. You dont want to stuff it jam packed though,it has to be snug and in as much of the box as you can get. Buy the proper stuff, its not expensive and do it every 3 months or so, clean the baffle with a wire brush whilst your at it and sealing the silencer with silicone also helps.
