Thanks for your reply Dabomb, clutch plates and fingers measured up fine and the slave cylinder "O" rings I replaced have cured the drag from the lever, the bike though is tough to change into neutral when the clutch is in? I might try new master cylinder seals this week

Got given an 03 Gasser from a mate of a mate to go through this week after he bought it last weekend, very tidy bike once I went through it and looks to me as though it hasnt seen a trials rider aboard from new, pretty sure its just been ridden round a field for fun. Few probblems like bust fork seals, messy carb/air box and the worst being a dragging clutch. I adjusted out the screw which helped but didnt cure it. The bike when I got it had a major rattle which I thought might be top end but defo sounded like clutch noise after a little investigation. I think it has been stood a while so I replaced the slave O rings and measured the plates and fork arms all of which were within the tolerences. The O rings have cured the dragging and the clutch feels nice now but the rattle is still there? The noise almost goes when the clutch lever is pulled in but quite loud when out? could this be the bearing and if so will it defo need sorting asap or be put up with for the future? any help would be appreciated

Stratford upon Avon have a trial this sunday at Saintbury quarry near Chipping campden, good venue and i think 4 routes. Starts at 10.30 enter on day i expect, mainly climbs/cambers/roots bypass Broadway up Fish hill and at the top turn left past a picnic area on your left and it should be sign posted from the next junction. The Addict and Ralph will be making the hard route look even harder

I always bought the 1.1 litre cans from Lampkins Gizza, forgot about that when I posted else It would have reminded me
-
Ahhhh???!!!! could be 550 in the clutch as total says lol, thats ****ed the definitive answer
-
And a Jitsie filter, let the bugger breathe
-
And stick some Boyesens in her she will love you
-
65-70 ml in 5 litres of super unleaded, if you can get Avgas mix it 50/50 with super unleaded but same amount of oil runs sweet. 500 mls for clutch unless your breaking the clutch. We all used Castrol TTS for the fuel oil, nice and clean running, Dexron111 is the B*****ks for the clutch and really cheap, dont be tempted by the expensive oils ATF is better but change it every 20 hours

Always amazes me when people say the 4rt is down on power especially from clubman riders, the bikes got loads of it rev the bloody thing. I think most people actually mean the inital take off power not overall power more than anything,a 2 stroke will light up instantly where as the Mont needs to be coaxed with throttle build up and clutch. As John says drop the gearing to 43 or 9/42 and you will see a big difference, quick action throttle if needed and dump the restrictors/original air filter
-
Hi Ian, good luck to you and the lads, clicking now lol, will have a listen when I,ve got more time,
-
ATF is fine in most bikes, defo in Beta's, Ive used it for years and the clutch feels better for it. Change it often and as you say its nice and cheap
-
It installed 11 Trojans on my comp all serious risk, ran Xoft which deleted them and did a system restore which sorted it
-
Perce, I use a little amount of oil on mine but change it every ride,no signs of dust in the box so not much getting through, the 4rt doesnt like an oiled filter like a 2 stroke can manage messes with the mixture. I know a bloke who hasnt oiled his for 3 years odd and no probs
-
Yer I've heard they're good bikes and good value Pete, even get a spare frame with them
-
forgot about that little gem Pete, ah and fuel leaking everywhere, snapped frames list goes on, must get a Evo next year
-
Make sure the rpm at idle is at least 1850 plus, give your air filter a really good clean and dont oil it or if you really want to only put a tiny bit on. Another poor start problem is caused by no slack in the throttle, make sure you have a couple of mm play before the throttle engages.
-
Ah Mark, I remember those 2T days mate, rattly bike, cleaning carbs/jets,fuel mixing, running ****e one day good the next, blown plugs, depriciation be a fair while till i give the 4rt up
-
Got lucky this year Andrew, got neither
-
-
Gotta spark Mark if your paying that money, mine will spark loads the way I go over rocks, might even catch fire
-
Nowt wrong with mine just cant get out due to the weather, stick a new plug in it and turn the tickover up abit should cure that
-
-
Now a Titanium bash plate, that would sell loads if the price wasnt as much as the bike, should be easy..ish to manufacture and on the 4rt might even save some money in the long term. A 4rt plate even the 6mm ones only last about 3-4 months before they are well bent out of shape and hanging, get one priced up Atom, its a start anyway
