Well OK then.........I guess you told me........ it is some sort of plastic but that is not really the point. No one has really answered my question. Has anyone else seen this issue with 10% ethanol pump gas? And if so, what did you do about it? I really don't want to be cleaning my carburetor after every ride.
-
Hey all
I can remember reading somewhere that the 10% ethanol pump gas etches the scorpa fiberglass tank and causes the pilot jet to clog. I sort of ignored it as possibly another internet urban legend but low and behold my bike would not run without the choke on last time I started it. I removed the carb, the float bowl had lots of flotsom in it. it sort of looked like small pieces of cotton balls floating in the fuel. Pilot jet was clogged. I emptied my fuel tank and there was quite a bit of white colored fibers floating in the fuel. Have any other scorpa owners seen this issue from pump gas? I guess I could use VP fuel but it is not alwasy readily available and expensive. If I did go this route, what blend VP fuel should I be using? I also thought about adding an inline fuel filter (May help but most likely that would clog) when running pump gas. It would most likely be better if I drained the tank after use and running the carb out of fuel. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wow, now I'm really bummed out........I had hoped that a deal could be struck with GG or another manufacturer. I suppose this means we are all crap-outta luck when it comes to spare parts. I bought my SY250 because I figured I couldn't go wrong with a yamaha engined bike. I've got a GG280 pro also so I guess the SY will become a museum piece in my garage It looks like Gas Gas is probably the strongest (Financially) trials bike manufacturer. I had considered a Beta and Sherco also before buying they SY........damn........I always make the wrong decision.

Thanks for all the info Tom. I ordered a Mitey-Vac to help bleed the brakes. Local shop told me it is really helpful in bleeding stubborn brakes. Also, was told to check rubber hose to resevoir for cracking. I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks again!

Got a bit of a problem with the back brake on my SY250. Basically it doesn

Thanks........Just what I was looking for.........

The title says it all, can someone tell me what stock jetting should be?

Any opinions or experiences?
A lot of club members run Maxima 927 castor based for pre-mix.....others various synthetic's. I used to run Mobil MX2T in my 280 pro at 80:1 but Mobil has discontinued that oil. Just wondering what are the advantages (if any) to running castor based.......I do like the smell of bean oil.
-
I forgot how many ounces of trans fluid my 02 pro calls for but when I add the recommended amount, the oil is at the bottom of the sight glass. Most bikes are at the center of sight glass when at proper fill level. If I add a little oil until it is centered, it usually drops back down to the bottom of sight glass after riding it. does it blow it out the breather if overfilled slightly? Doesn't appear to be burning any from a faulty seal........no excess smoke or funky smelling exhaust........plug running nice and tan. I know your supposed to change it after every ride anyway.......I'm assuming with so little oil in the gear/clutchcase that some must vaporize and exit out the crank case breather..........
-
My 02 was getting really noisy.........replaced piston and barrel. Runs nice and quiet now.
-
Yup, they are Yamaha engines............. Does anyone know if it is the same basic engine with different porting/heavier flywheel as the YZ250 motocross bike? It looks pretty much the same to me. The YZ250 is a popular bike in the US to convert for GNCC and enduro. I'm not sure about overseas but I just don't see that many 4 stroke trials bikes yet.......I know a guy who's a Montesa dealer and he just bought himself a brand new 2 stroke Sherco.............
-
Well, I poked around on the various Scorpa websites and nothing about 08 or the 2-smoke being dicontinued.........
-
I can't imagine Scorpa dropping the SY at this point......in the US most riders are still on 2 strokes.........the last 2 events I attended, there were only 2 4-strokes (Montesa). The dominant bikes were 2 stroke GG pros and Beta's....and only SY250 Scorpa's.........didn't see one 250 4 stroke in the lot.........only a couple of SY175's........
Scorpa 3.........certainly powder coating comes in at least a few more colors.........hahahahaha...........
-
For exhaust, you may want to consider Ceramic coating..........you can get it shiny or satin in a variety of colors. Very popular here in the states.
-
Just wondering if anyones used it on Scorpa plastic? It looks like Patriot Blue would be a close match. I bought another front fender for my bike so I figured I'd experiment on the battered old one.......the painted fenders are $50.00 apiece so it would seem worth it to be able to salvage it for the cost of a spray can. Fusion is made to spray directly on plastic I believe.
-
Wow...........that's a work of art.............I'd be afraid to ride it!
-
I have to agree...........I like Exiles bikes out of all the builders...........purpose built with the matt finishes.
-
Can you repaint the plastic on the SY's? My front fender looking a bit dodgy. The color looks similar to Yamaha blue. It also looks like the are painted at the factory instead of color all the way through. Also, are the original decals available.....
-
Well if this is any help, my 97 Rotax engine Scorpa had the drain plug on the left side and toward the bottom under the shift lever. I could remove it with skid plate on....just barely. Of course tranny fluid run out the back of the skid plate.
-
Dexron 3 ATF in my Pro since 02...........works great and is very inexpensive at Autozone.
-
I think the Tryals shop carries them. I think it's thetryalsshop.com. Try googling them........the owner Mike is a really nice guy to deal with.
-
Not to thread jack but what do you use in your transmissions? I'm buying an 04 soon so I'm curious about trans fluid type. I use ATF dexron Mercon in my 02 Gasser pro and also my newly departed 97 Rotax engine Scorpa. It seems like ATF makes for a very happy clutch in most 2 strokes.
-
Well I had a 97 that had a 280 Rtax engine in it. Not sure if the 96 was a 280 or a 250. Both were Rotax engines I believe.
