  1. Ahhh its oil on the crank, i was under the impression it was in the flywheel stator housing, it could be the seal gasket if you know the seals have been fitted correctly, could d it be pulling oil in between the casing gasket on the induction stroke, did you notice any pressure coming out the gearbox breather pipe when it was running, it could be a pinched crank case gasket or warping on the face of the casing.
  2. You may have an overly worn crank shaft, pitting on the crank shaft can stop a new seal creating a good seal, or you may have forgot to fit the tiny seal springs on the new seals assuming thay are the type that come with seal springs, did you grease the seals before fitting them?.
  3. A backfire on a two stroke is usually down to timing, to advanced or retarded, position ofvthe stator plate, or broken woodruff key, causing the fly wheel to move slightly out of position, this can happen and the flywheel still seems tight on the crank shaft and has just spun out of place a little.
  4. Something as simple as a clogged or malfunctioning tank breather on the cap can stop a bike revving, as the tank will become vacuumed as the carb sucks fuel in, iv had it happen on other bikes.
  5. My 1999 txt did the same revs to the moon on first start up with choke then settles down, you just have to be ready on the lever to control the runaway revs.
  6. What year carb is it, i had a 1999 txt ,carb refuse to work unless the venting breather on back of the carb was attached to the outside one, weard as you would have thought it was meant to breath, so basically running a small bit of tube from one side of the carb to the other, never seen this before on any of my other bikes, but it ran perfectly when the pipe was in place..
  7. Try a mechanics stethoscope sounds silly but when iv been looking for worn bearings whilst servicing kubota sealed hydrostatic gearboxes it was an essential tool to finding out exactly where the sound/problem was coming from. You will know straight away what area ofvthe engine the knock is coming from then you can rule out worn bearings/bush/shim,loose bolts etc.
  8. Hi iv adult proofed a 20r, i moved the peg mounts right back and welded them in place and added some extra gusset welds around the area, iv also fitted a 24r swingarm and rear hub, upgraded the shock to a fox air shock and binned the **** oset front forks and put some marzocchi 55 on it, the wheelbase is a fair bit longer and generally better all round.
  9. I brought a 1300w 18,000 ah lipo for my 20r it worked but the c rating on the bms wasn't high enough so it cut out on full throttle pulls, it would run if you didn't just snap the throttle back when you go to splat something, i think the lifepos will do the same, probably best and but the boost pack from boost batteries as thay have done the research on it all.
  10. Iv had to sand friction plates down in the past, it was on a shrco 290,it had bad drag, used p800 paper with oil on a flat surface in a figure of 8 motion, it sorted the problem, don't go to mad a minute or so of sanding on each plate side worked for me.
  11. Yeah I just put the thermostat wires together, to mimic the activation of the thermostat when hot, I think it is the ac dc thing, maybe I need to change the position of the of the wires at the rectifyer,.
  12. Hi all I don't trust thermostats, so iv hard wired my fan on permanently on my 1996 jtr270, it works fine at idle and low revs with good air flow rate , but when you give the motor a good rev up the fan slows almost to a stop, and then starts again as the revs come back down to idle. I'd would of thought the fan should spin faster with more revs??, but hay atleast it works lol. ? Any ideas?? Cheers
  13. Try using a good amount of ptfe tape its working on my 20r
  14. Try a longer/higher stem and some Easton pilgrim bars on it, that would add some reach and hight bringing your riding position slightly more upright and stretched out if your feeling restricted ,im 5,11 and ride a modded 20r and find that's OK. So a 24 should be good for your hight.
  15. If you look on the top of the head tube there is a code number, go on the oset parts website and put it in the search box, it should tell you the year
  16. It's an old thred but I thought I'd revive it, iv put some marzocchi bomber 55 tst2 forks on my 20r,a large high set of bars from on one, moved the foot pags as far back as I could get them and welded and strengthend the whole area. Also put a fox rp23 air shock on it, and now have plans to put a 24r swing arm on it with a longer stroke dhx 5 shock. The bike is so much better with the suspension upgrades, amazing little bikes!!!
  17. Try an extra thick washer on the thrust bearing top hat actuator, or even two thrust bearing sets, putting an extra washer on helped mine abit but didn't totally cure it. I never got round to trying two sets of thrust bearing as I sold the bike.
  18. Sold the beta old zero, but couldn't go long without an old smoker to play about on, so iv gone and brought a gasgas txt 270, I'm joining back up to the earlshilton club soon so if anyone other novice riders out there looking for a rideing buddy drop me a message cheers.
