  1. Hi bultoboy Well done, I'm glad things are coming along, Before you get to far in, try to drop the suspension on the chair down an inch or two. a shorter but harder shock from a scooter/moped would do! If I'm right that one is off an MZ Ts 250 road bike and is very soft. Also I am now using 65 lb per inch springs on the Betor pro rear shocks of my Bultaco that I got from ty trials.co.uk. I did have 50 lb springs but we had to have the preload wound up a fair bit and 25mm fork preload spacers that I got from Billet parts.co.uk (£4.50) The pup looks cute mate! Did you get the Yamaha that the chair was attached to or did the vendor split it? Hope this help's. Paul
  2. Well the Bultaco outfit seems to be working out OK. We have been riding it as much as we can and competed in our first trial yesterday. Managed to make it through all the sections and got a few cleans as well.
  3. Hi Pete, It was a pleasure talking to you Sunday and we had a great day thank's. As I said it doesn't really matter which ACU club in the eastern centre you do join. Most of the riders at our trial Sunday are not members of our club. But were able to ride it as it was a centre restricted event. I'm sure that you will soon make friends and find some riding buddy's no matter which club you become a member of and I look forward to meeting you at a section soon.
  4. At our first competitive trial on the Bultaco outfit today
  5. I made a start on the rear sub-frame. On these modern bike's you need something for the passenger to put there weight on, that won't just bend and brake.
  6. I Got a bit more done on the outfit today and yes I will remove the side stand when it's finnished
  7. Hi Pete, I agree with Nick. your best off with Norwich Viking Mcc or Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc (which I happen to run the trials section of).We have a good age mix of rider's with a lot of twin shock and more mature rider's coming to our events. Bury St Edmunds & DMcc also put on some good trials each year and also stage Enduro's. Once you are a member of an ACU club in the eastern centre you will be able to ride at 99% of trials. As most events are Centre restricted. If your able to come on Sunday (25th August 13) the Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc are holding a Trial at Little Lodge Farm, Santon Downham, IP27 0TX. look for the orange triangles on the B1107 Thetford to Brandon road. The Trial starts at 10:30 am. If you would like more info or just a chat give me a call on 01502 568252 Paul
  8. I had a bit more time in the workshop today and managed to get the chair attached to the bike. Every thing is tack welded at this stage. I had a run round the garden and up and down the street. All seemed OK. In the second photo you can see the replacement foot peg hanger I made from 5 mm steel and the front two mounts.
  9. Hi Dave, We do a lot of practice at The Trials Park, Corton,Suffolk. My wife and I also run the trials section of the Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc. As it happen's we are running next trial on the 25th August, at Little lodge Farm, Santon Downham, IP27 0TX. Starting at 10:30 am. We have route's that cater for all ability's and all age's. come and have a look! The Norwich Vikings Mcc also do a good Beginner's and Wobbler's Trial. Have a look at http://www.easternacu.org Regards Paul
  10. Thought I would show you the latest picture of my Model 49, now that she has gone slim line (Kit campeon spec) Brand new tank unit by Shed Works, all the rest from ebay and Bultaco UK. P.S big rear sprocket,as she pulls a chair!
  11. This coming bank holiday weekend (24th/25th August) the Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc will be running an easy sidecar route at our August trial. At Little Lodge farm, Santon Downham. for info check out http://www.easternacu.org or phone Paul and Debbie on 01502 568252
  12. I made a start on my next sidecar project today. Been making the brackets and re-enforcing the front frame legs of a Beta Evo. Every thing so far is made from 3 mm flat bar. ether 30 mm or 50 mm wide. I will also be replacing the left hand foot peg hanger with one I am fabricating out of 5 mm x 50 mm flat bar. I will keep you all up to date with how things go.
  13. bultoboy Just have a look at the welds on your dad's Bultaco! look at the size of the web's used in it's construction! If you use steel of the same size and can do a weld as well as a drunk Spaniard after Friday lunch GIVE IT A GO! Welding isn't rocket science. The only way to learn is to try! We have been bashing our outfit about for coming on for six months now. Running in to tree's. Rolling it down bank's and bouncing of rock. NOT ONE WELD HAS GIVEN WAY! My Beta Evo will be fixed to it's chair by three M 8 BOLTS. That is all it need's.
  14. Hi Bultoboy, MIG welding is fine for this job! I made the brackets to fit my chair to my Bultaco from 3 mm and 5 mm plate. You should try to pick up on the swing arm bolt and the foot peg mount with your first bracket. Then the front engine mount/bolt with the front lower mount. Front upper mount can pick up on the headstock web under the tank ( make sure it's low enough to clear the tank) My 14 year old son did most of the welding on our chair as a learning project.(yes some weld's were ground out and done a second time. But we have had NO breakages) So go on give it a go!
  15. I have had Alpine star's for the last three year's BEST boot's I have ever owned!! I can wear them all day even when walking round. As I tend to be clerk of course for our club a lot. I wouldn't go back to anything else now!
  16. Sad to hear that you have had such a bad experience with your Amal carb, mate! All I can go on is my own experience and the carb I received was spot on and the Montesa runs like a dream. My carb was ordered from the Amal carburetter company SP1 3SB England, for the model of bike I have and came bored to 27mm as it's a 627/406 with tick over screw and pilot on the right, a tickler and no choke slide. Yes the top is bored and tapped for a choke cable. But a brass plug came with the carb. Amal offer a two year guarantee on there carb's and even if your one is older than that. But as you say faulty, Return It, Call them, Email them. until the problem is resolved. P.S I have no connection to this company apart from being a satisfied customer! I have found that company's will bend over backwards to help in these day's of instant revue's and internet chat.
  17. David Needle is part No 622/063 Needle 2 stoke (1 "V" Grooves). At £4.32 including the dreaded VAT. Have a look at Amal's web site mate load's of good info and setup tips.
  18. mrb505 Did you get your new Amal from Amal here in the UK or from an internet seller. The reason I ask is because there have been some fake one's reportedly coming out of India. The one I got is very well made and has the slide hard chromed. the body also seams to be cast in a slightly harder grade of aluminium alloy than the old carb's I have. Also came with a two year guarantee Very hard to find an old Amal carb that isn't suffering worn slide and body
  19. Mikuni on mine. Good carb, A brand new Amal carb would be £109.99 + VAT. But would come fully jetted for your bike. have a look at http://www.amalcarb.co.uk Got one for a Montesa I'm restoring. Took a few weeks to arrive as they build to order. But was kept informed all the time. For a 72>74 sherpa 350 you should have the following Carb type - 625/414 Main jet- 150 Needle jet - 2 stroke-size 106 Pilot jet - 20cc Slide MK 1.5 No 3 cutaway Needle on position 2 Hope this helps
  20. Wait until the wife is out and use the dish washer It's what I do when I have engine/carb parts needing a damned good clean.
  21. After sitting twenty+ years the crank seals will need replacing! you could do it now or after you get it started and have a runaway engine as I did. Take off the air cleaner and put your hand over the end of the carb and hold the throttle fully open . As you kick the engine over feel how much vacuum (suck) there is. If it isn't trying to pull the palm of your hand off the crank seals will need replacing. Good compression is only a sign of good ring/piston seal. Air sucked in past the seals can still make it up to the combustion chamber. Just without fuel mixed with it. Also check the fuel tap is passing plenty of fuel. The one on my Bultaco (also sat for many years) was totally blocked. After sitting twenty + years the crank seal's DO need replacing
  22. Montesa Cota 247T Lovely little Trail bike from a time before Trail bike's became silly great things with ultra long suspension or fuel tank's bigger than my shed .
  23. Look's like you've done a cracking job there Bondy! Well Done!
  24. We make our own for the club. From a country/farm store you will need a roll of fencing wire(can be got for about £10.00). Then get an old round chair/table leg about 1.5" O/D and saw a slot in one end about an inch deep. Cut wire into lengths of about 18">20" long. place wooden leg in a vise and pop end of wire in slot. Now bend wire round one and three quarter turns. You have a safe wire with no sharp point. Now use coloured card or plastic cut into squares about 2.5" slip between the turns of the wire! You have a Marker. Now make about 400 and you have enough for a trial. I usually take about twenty when going for a practice!
  25. Don't give up on BultacoUK. Give Dave ,Pete or Robin a ring as Dave stock's far more parts then he has had time to list on the web site. They are really friendly and know Bultacos inside out!
