  1. I want to like & own the Beta but there is allot of evidence that points towards it as being a peice of crap really, In the back of my mind I'm frightened to take a chance on such a hit & miss product. At least you know Jap built stuff is quality, it would be dumb to buy something on the basis of styling alone, especially with the evidence of dissatisfaction from owners being stacked up against them. I cant beleive it, I'm still hearing bad reports on carb probs on 08 Betas, its quite unbeleivable & very dissaponting indeed.
  2. Cheers blok, (stupid Italian electrics, theyre great on styling though)
  3. Thanks, I'll let time pass up to the purchasing day & let my heart do the deciding if I cant make a logical decison before then. I like the Beta's styling which is a bit shallow but I think from what I've heard it can be the only deciding factor now, since both have issues of different kinds but both are buiilt to a similar standard in different ways. Are the engines equally as dependable though?
  4. My facilities in the way of space are limited for working on bikes so when I have to its (well, look at my username lol); so I wont be buying GasGas lol. Fetling is as far as I like to go but engine work No, I like reliability. My garage has no electric or comforts you see & its detatched from my house, the frontroom is the garage but it aint as terrible as it all sounds.
  5. It appears all makes have their strong & weaker points, as they both appear tough engines I suppose I should really go with which feels better to ride. I have had a little go on both some time ago now at a practice woods near me but not back to back & so it is hard to compare like that, also they were older bikes & this was a couple of years ago now so it's not really something to go by. My heart says Beta & my head only says Scorpa because of what I have heard regarding build quality, but then if what smalley250 said is a characteristic I suppose that blows that theory away; I do agree with what you say about the fuel tank looking tatty from my observations (I prefer the Beta design).
  6. Thanks for the offer Scorpa 3, I would take you up on it gratefully but I am in the South East. The Scorpa has a Yam Engine so I know I can trust its reliability & build quality. Its looking good for the Scorpa on that count. The 08 Beta sounds very nice too but I should hope that an 08 bike has'nt needed to be pulled apart yet. I expect to ride a new bike for some time with nothing more than routine maintainance to do; thats the only thing which puts me off Beta, I hear people getting a new bike or newish bike and having to pull carbs off and mod them , buy stators or fan motors etc.. and that makes me think that they aint up to the standard of the Jap built stuff. I have been told bysomeone that they have been known to have clutch niggles: you dont need all that when you buy a new bike. I've heard nothing like this about Scorpas, even if they dont look as nice, but then the 08 bike looks very nice in detail. Thanks and keep the comments comming. I'll pick up on this again tomorrow. Cheers
  7. So far great input, yes Scorpa 3 I know what you mean about the left hand kicker, I am used to right hand side but I suppose you get used to that. I like the Scorpas build quality & its finnish , it looks more robust but I don't know if it is any tougher, but I think I prefer the Betas styling. Christoff, how does the Beta 200 compare to the 250? is it allot more vibey& revy, I like the idea of the 270 for its smooth torquey motor but I'm not sure its necesary for me.
  8. Hello All, I know that this question is somewhat subjective but I am hoping for some objective feedback. For obvious reasons I have posted here & not in either of the forums of either of the bikes I am looking for feedback on. Basically, I am in for a new bike in the new year & have promised to update my old one by end Jan or Feb. Thats a long time to go, yes, but I have been stuck with this dilema in my head for months now & can not reach a conclusion despite having a go on each bike. I can not make my mind up on either the Scorpa or the Beta (250 2T's), so I am seeking from owners of both points of view or good & bad experiences of their bikes, which I am hoping will help me decide. I know some will just say, well its up to you or its a personal individual decision but I am hoping that feedback on different things like performance, ease of maintainance, availability of parts & reliability & quality of build will finally sway me into a decision. It will be interesting to here your replies even though I do realise it's probably all been asked before. I have considered 4 stroke but have been put of by the cost of rebuilding them, is this a bit of a myth about cost when it comes to a 4T? cheers in advance.
  9. Larry, Honda wiring is colour coded & it is easy to match up. Regulator sits under seat, top frame. I have some pictures of mine somewhere I'll try & post them tomorrow if i can find them.
  10. I can see it being ok for easy routes as you say hrc1 & its interesting that the footpegs can be brought forward. I am always interested in these stranger concepts, I like Scorpas longride with the air cooled engine as it could be used to cover a bit of distance as well as sections but its 163cc engine seems a bit small and therefor underpowered but I might be wrong there. I must say that I like the pics of the Rev3 with a seat, how available is that as a kit? I know its getting away from trials in the purset sense but I do like the idea of being able to cover a bit of distance although of course the tank range contradicts the point.
  11. Yes It probably is quite heavy so I cant see it being that acrobatic but I can see it has a purpose. I like the idea of it as a play bike that has a durabe engine.
  12. I see, I'll practice that one. Anyway what do you think fozza?

  14. http://www.moto-station.com/article3121-news-moto-2008-beta-alp-125200.html perhaps this? (I am not very good at this am I, i'll get there)
  15. Beta_Alp_200_trial_stpz.jpg is this how its done?
  16. Yes but I have a picture of one in trials trim, no seat or plastic tank shrouds. How do I upload the image?
  17. I Typed in 2008 Beta Alp out of interest & came across a Beta Alp 200 Trials. The bike can be converted back to trail/Enduro but looks very interesting. The concept looks to be very similar to Scorpa's air cooled 125/143 & 163cc Yam powered trials bikes that can also be converted to long ride. The Beta Alp concept appears better in looks though & has a 193cc air cooled Suzuki engine. I am not sure how to upload images (I'm a bit technically inept like that) but if you want to see it Type in 2008 Beta Alp Trials into Google & it will soon be found on the 1st page. It's a French site I think & it can be translated. Actually its got me interested & I like it but I just wondered what any of you thought?
  18. Thats a neat design & looks to be very effective. The engine looks nicely done too if I'm not mistaken.
  19. Yes it appears to be a bit of an anoying thing really. I suppose I could just leave it alone, but from what you say of your XL185 engine hondanut, I will definately leave it on, I didnt realise it could cause such damage in the longterm, I thought it was just to assist in kicking it over & that was it as far as it's function went. Thanks guys.
  20. Thats a great idea TLR250, I did infact tape some foil heat resistent tape around the point of the cable wich touches , but I havn't ridden it since then so I dont know if this will solve it or not but your idea is much better & looks neater.
  21. Ok, thanks for the advice Scrumpy Jack, Taking that into account I will not remove it (I hav'nt removed it, I was considering it but will not do that now). Its only done 3800 klms it would be a terrible thing to have to risk doing such a nice engine such horrific injury all because of a cable. Thanks again.
  22. I have noticed that my decompressor cable on my TLR200 as melted through as I had no heatsheild on the new header pipe that I fitted to it. I didnt have a heatshield so tied the cable slightly away from it until I made up a heat sheild but it musthave touched it or got pushed against it with my leg while riding. Anyway the question is this: Can I just remove the cable.?If I do will it do any harm? I know it will be harder to kick but to be honest I am used to kicking over far bigger engines without using manual decompressor lever. so being harder to kick doesnt realy bother me. Cheers
  23. Thats exactly why I infered earlier that we might as well live in a state of anarchy (metaphorically speaking) as the police have been made to be ineffective by political legislation. There is not enough of them to be of much use & as you say they obviously consider theft not worth the persuit considering their rescourses & idiotic sentencing from judges. In other words the only guardian you have is your insurance policy concerning your property & possessions but when it comes to being protected against worse, well you are'nt & neither will you get justice in the UK if they are caught. As you say Bikespace, the only way is to make your own justice but remember the judge will always sympathise with the low life because he is equally as lowly.
