    You will have to break down and do the adjustment on the other shifter on the clutch side. You have actually tried riding it? Not just sitting on the workbench?

    The gasser takes a certain kick to start. In fact some people never get the hang of it. It takes a short quick kick. You need to slowly kick it to top dead center, bring the kicker back to the top. Make sure the lever is engaged and kick a fast kick. It will never start with a slow lazy kick. Some riders can start it first kick every time, some give up and buy another brand. That`s how I got my boys bike, the previous owner hated to `try` to start it.

    Is it chrome or black? I`ve fixed some pretty bad forks. It just takes time and needs to be smooth as the rest of the fork. Simple things can be fixed with super glue and the worst with jb weld. Fingernail polish can hide it. Good luck and be slow and patient.

    I would be concerned on the shift shaft being bent. Did it all go together easily?

    That`s why I love vintage trials. I carry a well stocked fanny pack for that purpose. I never could get away with that riding modern.

    Actually Dan, I think torx works better in an allen than in a torx. Try it if you have not.

    I`d go back to the speedo drive as I seem to have done that in the past.

    Take off the skid plate. Use a small chisel and knock it loose. From now on use the right size torx as it grabs better. I have seen quite a few minders carrying torx instead of allen. The torx gets a better bite the first try. PS the oil filler plug can be used until you get the proper parts.

    The black to the coil and green to ground as that is all I have. Red to lights?

    I would agree that it could be mains on that old bike. But mains are constant. Check the rear hub bearing as it can be going bad and feel like the motor.

    The 311 was the first water cooled Montesa and the 314 was the first Honda powered Montesa. Both very large bikes for the era. We had about 4-5 of the 311`s in our club. Very soft on the bottom, which with the stop and launch riding at the time was not good. People that owned them did like`em. Have fun.

    I`ve ridden since `72 and only have needed one hydraulic hose. And since hydraulics have come along, I can only remember replacing about 10 for other people.

    You look good in practice at home. But what I can tell from the pics is you drop your shoulder and suck the knee in when in trouble. You have got to trust to stay firm with the proper stance. Weight back a little and drop the heels and bend the knees on climbs. I love the wheelie as you are still game!

    The only thing things a dealer needs to stock, Levers brake pads, bars, grips and jets. Throttle assemblies and both sizes of throttle cables. All these are universal. For the gasser. Shift lever, .engine gasket set, several primary gaskets, a water pump seal, kick start shaft with extra pawl, several top hats with spring and a shift shaft.
