The 311 was the first water cooled Montesa and the 314 was the first Honda powered Montesa. Both very large bikes for the era. We had about 4-5 of the 311`s in our club. Very soft on the bottom, which with the stop and launch riding at the time was not good. People that owned them did like`em. Have fun.

I`ve ridden since `72 and only have needed one hydraulic hose. And since hydraulics have come along, I can only remember replacing about 10 for other people.

You look good in practice at home. But what I can tell from the pics is you drop your shoulder and suck the knee in when in trouble. You have got to trust to stay firm with the proper stance. Weight back a little and drop the heels and bend the knees on climbs. I love the wheelie as you are still game!

The only thing things a dealer needs to stock, Levers brake pads, bars, grips and jets. Throttle assemblies and both sizes of throttle cables. All these are universal. For the gasser. Shift lever, .engine gasket set, several primary gaskets, a water pump seal, kick start shaft with extra pawl, several top hats with spring and a shift shaft. The rest can be ordered quickly enough.

On a pro model, I carry a throttle assembly, clutch lever, brake lever and a shift lever. All things easily replaced in less thn a few minutes. I do have quite a few parts at home. Really any large inventory leads to a dealership. At that point trials is not near as fun.

We run several different Ski Resorts during the summer months. We`ve lost many a top end from running downhill for long periods of time. It`s hard to get the riders to stay on the Gas on some of the steep runs!
-
You nicked the piston. Pull the exhaust header off and check the piston.

In our club, anyone that had a 4RT is now riding Beta`s. It is about 50/ 50 between the 2t and 4t. Myself I never liked the Montesa as too heavy for a modern bike. Unless you don`t hop much.
-
I`ve got about 5 inches in the yard not counting the snow drifts. Our main riding area 70 miles away is pretty clear, except on the backside of the hills. We skip January, but our first event is in two weeks!

The USA Gas Gas parts warehouse had a 100% in stock parts logo for years. When they could not get the parts from factory shortages, the logo went away and with it my faith that Gas Gas would stay solvent.

Emissions from trials motorcycles is insignificant to the rest of transportation. But since we are a small group, it`s easy to pick on us. I live in the Desert of New Mexico. Our politicians are always preaching water conservation. Our local golf courses use more than 6 million gallons a day. I`ll worry about water when they close the courses.

Yes, A Lane Leavit special brake lever. I have a `73 SM high boy on my workbench at the moment. I was an Ossa lover, but have ridden other peoples T`s in several events. Was very curious as that is a good looking bike. You riding the western nationals?

Filthy compared to what seconds, minutes. You are correct. But a Jet burns 1000 times more fuel in one hour. There is 350,000 aircraft in the world. I`ll bet just one major air lines burns more fuel in one day than all motorcycles (not trials) in the world burn in a year. On top of that the emissions are actually worse at altitude than at sea level. Get your facts straight on total pollution. Not per minute or hour.
-
The person you pass on the trail only cares about the smoke they see. I appreciate the conversation. But trials riders % of the pollution in the world is probably the smallest of any group of motorized people.
-
So Larry, What rear brake pedal is on that? The miller one was short and not too well thought out.
-
All you need is 3ft of clear hose held straight up from the nipple. It will pull it`s own very slight suction. If this does not work, burp the banjo fittings and try again. That`s why the super syringe comes with a meter of hose.

Perfume and deodorant just about kills me. Castor 927 though is heavenly. Just ask my wife, she`ll tell you I`ve always been that way!
-
Just pull up right or left of the bike in front of you.

I can get his info next weekend at our Banquet.

http://trialstrainingcenter.com/schedule/trials-training-days/I have ridden many nationals at TTC, but never the training. Long ways for two days. But if you could show up Thursday, get accustomed to the area Friday and stay for a couple days afterward to practice what you learned. Otherwise hook up with a Cat rider or two. For a fraction of the cost to TTC you could probably get Bryan or similar for private classes or talk them into a small school.
Or schedule a Ray Peters school. We ride with Ray several weekends a month. Great teacher, no matter what level.

If more companies made smokeless oil and we used it. That would go a long way with the majority of the public. Such as Bel-Ray Si-7 Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil is a smokeless, premium synthetic lubricant.
-
No problem, glad it`s running.
-
Very good, off would be best. Just so you do not add to the problem.

You almost answered you own question. You have been learning to ride slow as in a section. You need to mix it up and just go ride some trails! A 5 mile loop is a good long ride for a beginner. My daughters confidence grew after a few long trail rides. She did not clean the loop, but she rode harder things just because it was part of the trail.
