  1. Having clean bikes is great. You are over cleaning on the chains. Nothing wrong paying attention to the chain. Just not every ride. Might be the lube you are using? We are a cheap bunch. Rarely do trials riders pay for mechanical work! Glad you are enjoying it.
  2. I would enjoy this the most. I would set even more than I do. It would be the moreland gate system that high score wins. Each gate has a value and it makes it real interesting in line selection. Also it is sudden death. Any dab means no score for that section. Probably the fairest scoring ever, as only a perfect ride get`s you any points. We did a fun event a few trials back, I was the only rider with no dabs.
  3. That brings back memories, I had a `71 and my dad had a `72. Good luck on the rebuild. It does not look too bad considering the age.
  4. LOL, The front wheel of my Fantic has no rim locks but I`ve had to run tube type for years!
  5. Push it from top to bottom with a press. It was very common to have happen.
  6. Well the part numbers all match. Take it apart and see what is wrong.
  7. Every bike will dribble if you top it off. It`s been this way since they did away with the over flow bottles.
  8. 80:1, either oil would be great. AtF 450cc. Never had a coolant issue to worry about. My self, I ran a 10t counter and used second mainly. Watch the rubber muffler mounts. Also the fender mounts bed easily, but can be tweaked back. Should be a good bike.
  9. The Michelin was tubeless, but it`s the rim that matters. It should be marked on the rim.
  10. At the very least remove the snorkel and increase the pilot jet to move some fuel.
  11. Chances are that being a kids bike the tubes and springs are shorter. What happened to the original forks?
  12. That is someone that you cannot mention in this forum. ( He was banned) A tick over is just your idle speed in another language. You can do a few things to make it better. You already did a partial carb mod. A 9 tooth counter shaft sprocket and replace the steel wheels with aluminum. The biggest thing you could do( Besides buying a trials bike) is cut the frame and bring the front end in to make it turn. Otherwise you can spend a fortune trying to make it look like a great trials bike. Really, just go out and ride it and have fun. It will never do anything well but put a smile on your face!
  13. Use what ever works for you. The real oils lubricate better, ATF causes less friction and should be changed often. (400 cc`s is not expensive to change) Usually in the Pro motor, clutch drag is from other issues. Proper clutch plate measurement is key to it working correctly.
  14. Reality is the TLR (Reflex) was a trail bike. It was never intended as a trials bike. It is worthless, but cool at the same time. This is the best thread on one. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562129 I may be in it, but a friend made it. I also ride with a guy that has 4 grand in one, it looks totally cool. I always beat him with my beater Cota 200. Why? The Montesa was a REAL trials bike. Have fun with it. I`ve hade three of them, and would buy another. ( Just for a trail bike)
  15. The major updates were in 2004. The 2003 was a weird year. They messed with the frame as the rear was lighter and gave the bike too soft of power. 2003 was the worst year in my opinion. 2004 the bike was lightened almost ten lbs and they changed the internal transmission ratios.
  16. You do not need a spanner, but it is the proper tool. Remove the air box. knock loose the locking nut and turn by hand.
  17. Nice looking bike, not meant to be reved too hard. Basically a trials motor with a big tank. If you keep that in mind it is a great trail machine. Have fun.
  18. Well back with the air cooled bikes we had no such animal. You would get more response with a plug reading, that is true piece of mind.
  19. I have found my vacuum pump sits on the shelve as the long tube works the best. Give it a try, I laugh at the hours I used to spend doing it any other way.

  21. You just need 3` of clear hose attached to the slave. Have the hose held straight up past the handle bar level. 5- 20 minute job. Bleeding does take patience.
  22. Did you only change the master cyl. or did you do the clutch plates too.? Did you fill and prime before you attached the cylinder.

    Jumbo Main Bearings

    Yes you do have to split the motor. Been awhile for me too, so pay attention to the timing on the rotary intake. Also clean up the gearshift/kickstart shaft while you are at it.
