  1. I did say "OK" and not brilliant, top notch etc - cant imagine it would tolerate much abuse. Is SM known for cheapo type quality then ?
  2. You are going to need a pipe from Craig,I think for your Majesty. With the engine being higher in the frame than a standard TY a Miller one is not going to fit.I have what I think is a Miller one on my standard TY,its not very good quality - esp when you look inside it,but the chrome is OK.Still shiny after 3 years but with lots of solvol/WD40 care. I think Craig Mawlems pipes are stainless - better all round really, and pretty much seamless inside and out if done properly.

    Why

Really cant see the point in doing that,an RTL is rare enough as standard,(Was not a nice bike to rideanyway.) and will only tee off riders of proper twinshock bikes. The Bath club has a section for over 50 year old riders to use mono's - thats fair enough.(Looking forward to a nice TY250R myself in many years time ! )

    Oko Or Dellorto ?

Dunno about John,(jbeng) but I'll be having my sun fix in western Australia.Hopefully will be at the dartmoor 2 day, more sober than last time and riding my TY/XT225 - if I ever find time to finish it.

    Oko Or Dellorto ?

Ah well,at least you know what was causing it to play up.Got mine back together and had a play round at lunchtime - but it needs a good thrash before the next trial.I'll give yer a shout when I get back and see if we can organise that practice ride.Cheers Jon.

    Oko Or Dellorto ?

Thanks for that, come on jbeng - get yer cheque book out and get it spent ! See if you can get it sorted for when I get back from holiday and we'll do a bit of practicing before the next trial.(Might even stay off the pop too ! )
  7. Cheers for that Bo,not as clued up as you on the puter front, hopefully somebody will know what I'm dribbling on about.(Bit tired and aching after the Bath trial today - just got the results off the net, finished on 18,better than I thought.)

    Ty80 Reving Like Mad

The TY80 I bought for my son did this, thought for a while the throttle slide was sticking - not so,it was pulling in air from the main bearing seals.I did a complete rebuild on the engine with a genuine piston/rings etc,now runs a treat.
  9. So which is it for a 240 twinshock, after a frustrating ride today at the Bath classic trial I thought that Jon and I were going to have to flex the plastic. Turns out I dont - I can just blame poor maintenanceof my Yam,(carb full of water and plastic granuals/crud from the Miller tank) but I reckon Jon is the owner of a worn out carb on his 240.So which is best the OKO or the Dellorto ?
  10. There is an Armstrong TA280,(The alloy framed Rotax engined one.) for sale - advertised on the VMX Competition website. It appears to have frame number 1 and be connected to Steve Saunders. My question is - what do members think this bike is worth ? The asking price is

    Crank Assembly

I tend not to use the lathe, just grind a deep vee into 2 pieces of flat steel then sharpen the vee's.Weld them onto a third piece of flat big enough to clamp the DTI onto,or for its magnetic base to stick too.If you weld the two vee's on so the crank fits nice and tight into them its much easier to work out which end is not true. Hand scraping timing side main bearings is next weeks job !

    1976 Ty175 4 Stroke?

Not so much done it - more in the middle of doing it.If you search for Serow trials in this forum you'll find what I'm doing, there are piccys via link through Photobucket.Wish I had time to get on with it but work keeps getting in the way.(Not complaining - feel lucky to have some.)

    Crank Assembly

I sit a set square up the side of the flywheel at 90 degrees to the crank pin for initial alignment then press it together. I weld up a pair of vee's to sit the crank in then run a dial gauge on the shafts to test run out.To correct it I hold the crank in one hand and hit the outer corner of the flywheel with a copper mallet.Sounds horrible but works well - you sort of get a feel for it.
  14. Another thought is to take the bare frame around to the Mot station before its painted, with the V5 and explain.I find if you are straight with people they will understand your worry and usually be willing to help out.Remember most bike Mot testers love bikes as much as we do so its already "of interest" rather than a 9-5 money earner.
  15. I'd be interested to know what people think too,I'm going to need a pair for the TY that is slowly coming together.
  16. I think you will be able to take a similar photo of me on Sunday at Binegar quarry on my TY250 on Sunday.
  17. Why do we tolerate all this s--t ? I listened to a radio programme at lunchtime today where it was suggested that it was no longer acceptable to call old people old, pensioners, coffin dodgers, wrinkleys etc.Ok,some of them are a bit rude - depending on who you say them to and in what context. But what the hell is going on,my mother would wonder what was going on if I did not tease her about her "Senior moments" I'm a bit lardy around the middle, and I really dont care if someone calls me a fat ba--ard - so what ? Grow up,move on,stand on your own feet ! Where is the political party I can vote for who is not scared to tell the truth, make hard decisions, stick by them and encourage common sense. Thats enough for tonight, peace and goodwill to all,esp my little brother as its his birthday - bless the bald headed little git !
  18. Found my very faded copy of a manual and parts book today, shout if you still need it.
  19. Not really my bag either - good job we dont all like the same thing....
  20. Sort of,just look at the url in the earlier post,I'll just keep adding photo's as I go on. The Tig welding is a very satisfying thing to do,but I do very little now and practice makes perfect so I want to keep going as soon as poss,so I dont get too rusty. My Tig set has done very little in the last 5yrs so I just want to get the bike built and running.Be very interesting to see what a four stroke Yam trials bike could be like.

    Lumpy Idle!

How much work has the engine done since it was last rebuilt/checked ? The TLR250 I had new in 1986 used to mess around at low revs, alot was to do with the cam chain being very slack and that the cam was a very loose fit in the head - but it was fine when revving. (Honda paid for a new head, barrel and piston etc - even tho it was 9 months old and no warranty was implied when I bought it.)

    Lumpy Idle!

    Valve clearances,compression test ?
  23. Yes,it took nearly 2 days ! Just have to redrill the swinging arm pivots and stick it all back together ready to make the exhaust, air and battery boxes.
  24. Just put some up on my photo bucket thingy - with all the other stuff.... Its here, http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr62/AllyV8/
