I did exactly that with mine, the standard one is useless my bike fell off it twice!
I bought the full kit 300rr off Mickey Oats motorcycles from there web shop, it’s a great improvement!
-
Yep I think i learned that lesson many years ago, Carb cleaner is evil stuff.
You have to be careful on the gold wheels on our bikes if you have them like i do on my bike.
I also have an africa twin, again with hood wheels, you have to be very careful as to which cleaning agent you use as it can easily damage the gold finish.
For example the car wheel cleaning sprays from the likes of autoglym etc will damage the finish in a flash!

Here’s the link to the supplier.

You can see the bottle on one of the pictures.
Its Wurth brake cleaner, brilliant at removing adhesive of any sort.
-
I responded to the other post about rugeley practice area.
Seems the landowner lost the battle and the great site is lost.
Can anyone else confirm this please?
-
Did anything ever happen with this?
We used to ride at Rugeley back in the day, it was a great venue.
Would be great to see it opened up again.
-
Thanks for the feedback. What is so bad about the braktec set up out of interest.?
Also would really like to see the full list of all the mods you have done too please!
-
Not seen the Zeta ones, have you got any pics please?
I always preferred the small two finger levers from a feel point of view, so might look at them as an alternative.
-
Finally I also got the silencer cover graphic, mine is very badly scratched, but will have to do, it looks a bit better with the new graphic on it though!
-
Then adding the new frame graphics, which thankfully cover a lot of the small chips and dents on the main frame.
-
Next was on to the frame graphics, which were peeling more than I thought!
-
Here’s the pictures I was trying to post of the tank graphics.
-
So it seems you have to be a TC supporter to be able to post lots of pictures so I have just paid my TC Subs!
-
Then on with the new tank graphics, I’m well pleased with these!
That’s odd , looks like I have run out of upload storage usage on here?
-
Quite easy to get the old adhesive off as it turns out.
-
So the graphics on my 4RT had definitely seen better days, the tank ones in particular seem to have been damaged by petrol which has stained them.
Luckily new genuine Montesa graphics are not that pricy, and as my bike already has the 300RR rear mudguard and graphics, I ordered some to match the tank and frame and they were delivered today, so just sat down and fitted them.
First I had to remove the tank graphics and clean the old adhesive off.
-
Brilliant, I have not had the chance to use mine in anger yet!
Some people say it’s best to wear them and walk around wearing them doing normal stuff for a few days to break them in.
Do you plan to do that with yours?
-
Hope it helped a bit chap!
Im quite sure when I chuck mine down the track at the wood that they will soon get bent out of shape again!
-
Thanks bud!
I also pinged the guys at John Lee and sons where I bought it, and they also stock all the spares too!
-
I think it might be worth looking to see if I can get some spare like that for my own. Although I generally replace my helmets after about 5 years of use.
Got any good suggestions for where to buy spare items?
-
A very good point chap! But they are just the new version of my previous pair of Sidi’s, colours are almost the same, I like bright colours.
And with my lack of skills these days I am sure I will be three marks for most sections these days!
-
Found these online for a good price, so treated myself to them to go with my new helmet.
I have three other pairs of Sidi boots, love the quality and build of them all.
-
That’s good to hear bud, and sorry for not responding sooner, just walked back in from a weeks family holiday in Portugal, so not been on this forum !
-
Thanks Bud! Good to hear you have the same one too, and love it as much as I do!
I wish all my other helmets could have a buckle on the chin strap as nice as the one on our Airoh helmets , it’s such a brilliant design!
Pleased to hear you also agree with my on my Montesa 4RT as well, Ive wanted one since they were first launched and Dougy was the Repsol factory team rider.

Quick update on this, I had some spare time today so unbolted the brake lever.
The Allen headed bolt is threaded at the bottom and also has a lock nut on the outside.
I removed the lock nut, and unthreaded the bolt to take the whole brake lever out.
Brass bush and a nylon bush on the other side both in place, no signs of excessive wear.
So replaced the lever and tightened the bolt up, which seems to pinch the body closer together and then put the locknut back in place.
All good now slack removed, a very simple job in the end!!
