  1. Which oil are you talking about changing? Fork oil and primary side oil, book calls for standard 10/30. I think you will find a lot of folks use ATF in both, lets see what comments are posted here. Trans is just standard gear oil. I would suggest a good synthetic for mix oil (this came after books on bike were printed). You will see long arguments on all 2 cycle sites on what the mix ratio should be - I go by what the oil mfg recommends. Great bike, have fun with it. Alan
  2. Can someone tell me what the difference is between a front brake cable on a 74 TY250 and an 88 TY250? Thanks Alan

    Ahrma Upgrade ?

I rode 7 AHRMA events last year (man that was a lot of driving). They very in difficulty, but can be a good challenge to the Novice. I rode one ITSA event, which was the most fun I had all year - well on a Trials Bike. This year I'm riding regional events (CVOTC), on a Model 92 (1971 Sherpa T). I ride head to head with 2008 model bikes. I haven't won my class in an event yet - but I come out best in some sections. I don't know about you guys but I'm having fun. You want to ride .... there are plenty of places/events. If your looking for trophies then thats another story. I am an AHRMA member and I think AHRMA should allow any twinshock - I have email Ed. I really think that we as members should be able to vote on this directly. Alan
  5. Interesting topic to me as I need shocks for my Model 92. So where is the best place to buy the Betors? I thought that the original Betors on the bike could be rebuilt - where can you buy kits? Alan
  6. Woody, Sure wish I had read your comments prior to spending a year trying to build a '59 street Bantam into a Trialer. Something about making a silk purse out of a sows ear. I competed all year on it but ended up working on it at home and in competitions far more than riding. Don't get me wrong, it was a great experience and I got the bike to the point where it was "almost" competitive. I'm riding a Sherpa T this year and I would have to say that you are better off starting with a purpose built bike. As someone said - You need to spend your time working on your skills not wrenching. Alan
  7. O.K. Guys, Hope you have set up a couple of sections that us novice twin shockers can reasonable get through. See you this coming Sunday. Alan
  8. Tony/Dave, The comments you are making on AHRMA reflect my thoughts. All of the events are an overnight stay for me and several are really a two day drive. I don't think the turn out at Daytona was what was hoped for either. Don't get me wrong, I have no idea how to fix it. I think I'm going to concentrate on local events this year. OH - let me second the comment on Ed and Evelyn being top notch and people who really care about the sport. Alan
  9. In NC we ride all year. Had a get together last weekend at a local farm - 60 degrees by noon, pealing off the sweatshirts. It's almost nicer this time of year. Doing a complete trial in 90 degree weather is tough. Alan
  10. Jmck, Hugh's has anything you want for the Sherpa T. Bit pricey at times. Most of the stuff you need will show up on Ebay if you are willing to wait. I've got a Model 92 that I've just gotten running - don't care about looks. I'm also in NC. Will probably ride both AHRMA and CVOTC events this year. If you are interested in riding some, email me off board and I'll let you know when we are getting together. Probably a little late but several of us are getting together tomarrow (2/9) to ride on a farm just North East of Winston Salem. Alan

    Running Problems

Spray wp40 around the intake manifold when it is hot. My bet is it has a leak there. Alan
  13. I've always been able to find an automotive radiator hose that will fit. Alan
  14. Great video, really enjoyed it. but.... you really need a creek with at least 2' of water and some good mossy rocks. Alan
  15. I assume that you have seen these pics. http://www.motolenzphotos.com/photos/midoh...als/page_01.htm Alan
  16. Group, Didn't I hear that they had filmed all of the events at Mid Ohio and were going to show them on TV some time in Dec? Anyone have any info??? Alan
  17. Don't you have to register Trials bikes in the UK in case you have to go on a public roadway between sections? I'll bet some factory rider was going to use the bike for something like the 6 Day. Probably figured the Scrambler engine would give him a bit more zip. Be interesting to know if the bike ever was ridden in the 6 Day (or some other big national event). Alan

    Sherpa T ?

Woody, It's the femsa ignition with the external flywheel. The 1 pound flywheel is supposed to be off an Alpina 250. Talked to a guy today that has both a 4.5 pound and a 5.1 pound flywheel that I can borrow and see what works. Both are for points bikes so will probably have to go that route. Alan

    Sherpa T ?

Group, I have a Model 92 Sherpa T that has been converted to electronic ignition with the 1 pound flywheel. Great pickup but no idle (fun in Trials). Is there a heavy flywheel that I can put on and keep the electronic ignition? The heavy points flywheel fits fine but the bike will not fire with it on. Thanks Alan
  20. So... Does this fit? http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd165/Alan_nc/me1.jpg Alan

    Barber

2 Shock, Didn't ride last year but I think it was a least partially the same. As you entered the loop trail you had a steep downhill to a bridge then a steep uphill curvey area(lot of loose rocks). At least one rider flipped it going up the hill. One other steep uphill and the rest was fairly easy. I was told the total travel was about 6 miles. Actually the Bantam was doing the hills quite well until 1st gear went out. As soon as I finish typing this I'm back out to the garage to sort out the Sherpa T a little more. I'm going from 4 Horse power this year to 21 plus next year, yeeeehaw Alan

    Barber

Well the AHRMA Trial at Barber is history. I don't have the results, would be great if someone could post them. The loop trail was harder than most of the Sections I've ridden this year. I think we lost two before we even got to Section #1. Sections were some of the hardest I've seen in an AHRMA event this year. Not really unfair - just very difficult. I don't think I ever really got my head into it. I either got a clear or a 5, nothing in between. Somehow started one section in 2nd gear (on a Bantam thats a bad thing). In another I just flat forgot where I was going. Coming in after 1st round I'm going up a long steep hill and she pops out of gear - had to do the drop her over and 'stick' a handle bar to keep from sliding back down. With help I got to the top, put her in first and continued - about a mile later there was a strange noise and 1st gear went away. Haven't opened her up yet but I either lost the gear teeth or broke a shaft. Had a great time at Barber. If you haven't been you owe it to yourself to go. It is by far the nicest place that they have had an event this year. Went with several "Road Racers" , who really had a great time. Place is set up very well for them. If I can get her fixed in two weeks it's GA here I come. Alan
  23. Biff/Group, Why doncha all com don to Alabama this wek en - shd be al knds of BROLLY grls (Barber). Alan_nc
  24. Group, Wow..... Dickson results were posted about 3 days ago on the AHRMA site. That has got to be a record. Hope they keep it up. Alan
  25. Aaron, Anything that would speed up getting the AHRMA results posted has to be a good thing. Right now we usually end up waiting 2 to 3 months before they are posted on the AHRMA site. Probably a good idea to get the card and have the sheet notorized anyway - just our luck they will decide we need it at some event. Alan
