Thanks.
I'll put it back together and ride it for awhile before I make a decision on changing the weight of the flywheel.
I'm one of the weird guys that likes the weight on a TY250 flywheel.

The picture below of my TY175's flywheel:
Is the outside steel plate a weight or is this just the stock flywheel on a TY175?
Thanks in advance.

Nigel,
Why do you say that? Since my face plant this past season I really have been thinking about going to a full face helmet.
Alan
-
T-shock,
Don't really plan to use it. I wanted to see if you could modify a helmet and didn't want to ruin a good ,new one. I put vent holes in and worked on moving the visor and chin guard. If I end up liking the way it works I will buy a good helmet and modify it.
I was surprised at how sturdy this helmet is. It's quite light but the plastic (or whatever it's made of) is a good 1/8" thick. I have banged around on it with several tools and you aren't going to break it very easily. Don't know how much good the chin guard would do, but maybe anything is better than nothing.
I haven't seen a model on the market today that has an adjustable chin guard.

Not that I'm cheap or anything
but I took the filter material off the "cage" and bought filter material (a guy sells it on ebay). You can buy enough material for 10 filters for the cost of one complete unit.
Try here: http://www.unifilter.com/

I bought this cheap helmet to try a few modifications on. I don't know if there are others like it but notice that it has an adjustable face guard. I was able to lower it enough so that I can't even see it when I ride a section. Haven't tried it in an actual Trial yet, just in practice.

Searay,
Thanks so much. Downloaded the whole thing. This is great.

What is the quantity (or how far from the tube top) does the oil go on a TY175?
Sorry for all the questions. I have ordered the manual but it hasn't come yet and I have a couple of days off to work on the bike.

Thanks,
Looks like I have a bit of a choice. I guess the general theme is white and orange. Wonder if they made other specific design/color changes for different markets?

Could someone post a picture of a 76 ,TY175 in it's original colors. I've looked at the pictures on the internet but everyone seems to personalize their bike.
Thanks

I like the wife theory .....but the other way around.
"George you have got to sell that motorcycle". "O.K. dear, I'll put it on Ebay and sell it right away"

Thanks Guys,
So it appears that my new winter project is a 1976 TY175 C with what is probably a TY80 gas tank. Seems to run fine - rode three or four "very simple" sections this afternoon.
Unlike Tony.....mine will end up a "rider" not a really pretty show piece. (do like the elephant Tony).
Thanks again,
Alan

Well, I don't know about your local rules .....but having ridden a Bantam for a full season let me say this: It would not be my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice of bikes to ride in any class.
Reasons:
Seriously underpowered
Tough to make a 1st kick starter(requires electronic ignition, which is illegal).
Pogo Stick front forks
Very limited ground clearence
Won't fit "real" Trials tire without illegal modification (need a Cub or C15 rear rim and swing arm).
Requires modifications to the foot pegs (which then requires different brake and shift levers)
I won't boor you with the other 30 items required.

Group,
Could someone tell me if these are the stock TY175 foot pegs. If they are altered do you have any idea how much they have been changed?
The fork tubes are sticking about 1/2" above the clamps. Is that a fairly common riding position for a TY175?
O.K.: Another question: It has a 525 prefix on the serial number. I find that to be a 75/76. Will the serial number tell me any more or get me closer to the exact year? Where can I find this information?
Thanks

Shoot, look on Ebay - you can buy DOT and Snell stickers for about $1.00

Took a pretty good 'header' this season myself. Would probably have saved the teeth through the lips if I had a full-face helmet. Had not thought of a chest protector - don't know if that would have stopped the broken ribs or not. I do wear shin-guards with built in knee protection and a good set of boots with ankle protection.
I will pick up a helmet with face guard over the winter and see if I feel it restricts my view. Really would like to be able to ride for several more years so protection seems in order.

Have a friend who is a good Intermediate Rider (on most any bike). He bought a TL125 (because it was available at a good price). We rode a trial about 2 months ago and he could not get up the Novice hills or over the small logs. He is about 5'8" and 175#. I'm sorry they just don't have any power .....and any they do have comes on verrrrry slowly.

I have been using ATF all season and it seems fine. Find Tony's posts on how much to put in each fork - it's some measurement down from the top edge.
I would take the forks apart and clean everything before putting in new oil. It is just amazing how much crud is in them.

Blocky,
Well you know how it is the education system in the U.S. just isn't what it should be.
Alan

O.k.,
Someone fill in the blank for me: Where is there white paint on a TY?
Alan

One of the fellows I ride with has one. Also has an electronic ignition. I don't know if these are modifications he had done or they are factory. He doesn't check in here but I'll ask him. Bike runs extremely well and for an older gent he is quite a good rider.

You can take if off and get it welded or just use JB Weld. Holds great, just doesn't look good. Most folks that ride Trials regularly have JB Weld somewhere on their cases.

No, no, no: Really wasn't commenting on your post. I was just surprised that AHRMA was going to put on that many events.

Think METROLINA is supposed to have at least one more. Check their web site.
