  1. Anyone know where i can get a strong exhaust bracket the holds the tailpipe to the mid section? You know the plastic tick shapped things. I had one of the standard ones but the mounts snapped.
  2. I had the bike out this weekend and it seemed to be runing a bit rich. Plug was oily black when doing a plug check as described above (i.e flat out in high gear). I killed the bike to have a rest then I could not re start it. tail between my legs i drove home and sweared a bit. decided to swap the plug and it started first kick. Conclusion it must be running rich but the air screw is only 1 - 1 1/4 turns out!

  4. Ive just added some boyeson reeds to my bike and WOW! What a difference! the bike starts runs and pulls so much better. Anyway back to the point. I checked the colour of the plug before i started so that i could tell if the bike was running any richer. The plug was black and looked very oily before I added the reeds and after I fitted the reeds, the plug is still the same colour. I am checking the plug by running the bike for say 10 mins and then killing the engine. I am not reving the engine but simply letting it idle. Is this the right method to check the plug? The plug that I am using is the one that came with the bike which is a NGK B7ES. The plug looks in good condition. I note that the standard should be a NGK BP7ES. So I am wondering is the fouling of the plug down to the model? Or should i change something on the carb???
  5. So what steps did you take to de coke the engine? I take it you took the head off etc and just cleaned it with washing up liquid? Did you have any problems getting the piston back in? did you use a piston ring compressor?

  7. I recon it will probably be the stator or the cdi. This happened on my bike same model and year and it turned out to be the cdi.
  8. My mates Cota 315 98 model keeps stalling when we are out. The bike starts ok and runs for say 15 minutes. Then for some reason stalls and will not start again. It will start if we leave it for say 1 hour but as you can imagine this is very annoying! So he has had the stator cap off and found that the gasket had perished and a bit of crap was around the stator. He has now cleaned this up and resealed. We are going to give it another go at the weekend but I recon a new stator may be in order. What does everyone think? Has anyone had a similar problem? We will obviously give it a go first but I know electric probs can be a pig!
  9. I bought a carrier not so long ago from a reputable dealer (name removed for fairness, but a major name). The carrier came zinc plated and is now covered in surface rust. Although the carrier is not going to break is does look particulary crap on the back of my car. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am tempted to take it off and paint it but shouldn't the zinc plating prevent this......anyway im sure hamerright wont take to the zinc straight off.

  11. PJ1 seems to work fine for the gearbox and engine oil. I change my oils regulary so it needs to be reasonably inexpensive and good quality.
  12. I have been trying to teach a good mate of mine how to ride trials and he is really struggling with pulling a wheelie. What advice should I offer him other than give it a hand full and pull up?
  13. Just looking at the picture from andy re the autoowbars rack. What stops the bike from jumping out of the car bracket? it seems as though the two removable pieces can bounce out?

  15. When you inspect the spark plug should i be looking for a light brown coating like on a car? Every time i look at mine its covered in black oily coating. Is this a sign its running too rich? I am using a mix of 75ml for every 5 litres of petrol.

  20. I dont get this I seem to be able to start my bike better on the reserve tank?????? I sometimes find that whilst out riding the bike sounds like its going to stall. I have now worked out that if I turn the tap all the way to the front of the bike (to reserve) its ok then I am able to carry on. Five mins later i can go back to the on position. I am not running out of fuel......so is it a presure thing or is it related to muck in the tank/dodgy tap? any ideas?

    Beta Problem

    I too have a 2000 rev 3 and have experienced the same symptoms. After many people telling me their version of what "in their experience" it was, it tuned out to be a knackered cdi.
  23. OK so I am confussed. I have a trailer at the mo but no where to store it and its a home made non reliable one. I fancy a carrier but need to be sure I am not going to damage my car or give myself another headache by not feeling confident in it. So its a autotow bar rack or a new dave cooper trialer that should allow me to store it out of the way?????? time for a
