    2012 Model

I really hope so. I was under the impression that the 2012 would be. In the statement I read it said that; "The 2012 bike includes several new developments that will complete a total renovation that was started in 2010 with the new chassis, a new engine in 2011 and the additional updates for 2012, thus completing a three stage process" The general assumption last year was that the engine cases were redesigned to allow fuel injection and that 2011 would be used to iron out any problems and for 2012 the fuel injection would be added But hey you know what they say about rumours! Anyway no need to guess anymore as we will know in a few hours...
  4. Hi I rode in the SSDT this year and got cornered by this guy and I get what ya mean! He seems pretty passionate about it but should listen to others more. I was and after lengthy convo with him, am still not a big fan of the bike but I do like the fact it's 'British'. Frame/swingarm is machined/welded in england as is the CNC engine and crankshaft, plastics, radiator, airbox, fuel tank (previously carbon fibre now aluminium), exhaust, wheels (DID and custom greeves/talon hubs) but engine really does look like original sherco motor. 5 speed and much of the internals appear the same - right down to oil flow return from clutch to gear shafts. Most other parts are made abroad, clutch is sureflex, wiseco pistons, grimeca brake/clutch parts (after failed ajp deal), custom ohlins/greeves shock (he couldn't answer if it was progressive or not as doesnt run linkage - remember progressive linkless beta shocks, required when no delta linkage), gears/flywheel, marzocchi forks, dunlops...many other parts are 'off the shelf items'. Kinda normal I suppose and no problem really - things like, gear change, brake pedal, kickstart, leonelli twin map ignition, dellorto vhst 28 etc. As already stated two greeves went out and one finished! :s one lasted 6 sections! After much faffing around, belief of failed head o-rings, measuring temperature of engine coolant at different places, measuring temperatures of exhaust at different places, looking at waterpumps, checking switching point of thermo switches and generally not listening to people's idea's on the problem, it was finally found to be rad cap's to be the problem - allowing system to over pressurise. I think they were blocked or sticking. The guy reckon's he has sold around 20 or so, mainly abroad and has more orders and would like to sell 100-200 this year, he also said he would like an invester so production could be increased and wouldn't turn down offer's to make part's in china for instance where obviously much cheaper but kinda goes against the 'British-ness'! In my opinion the bike needs some development in the looks department still, exhaust looks out of place - just stuck on the side, front mudguard fit's poorly, back mudguard looks strange, bike looks outta proportion, vac fuel pump just cable tied to frame (production bikes probably not like this), all personal opinion though. I do like the way frame mimicks old greeves models and it does have a comfortable riding position. Big respect to the guy for funding it and giving it a go but he need's to improve looks and fit I think, listen to people trying to help, get an invester - he has funded whole project to date, update website and get out and about a bit more, rather than classic telford show - ssdt is good start though. But hey what do I know, I've never built a bike like he has - plenty of idea's like most people but not something I'd undertake. Although I believe he had design/prototype out before sherco's current bike with switched airbox/fuel tank design (not to say sherco didn't have design floating around for a while - apparently they delayed bike release for a year or so while persuing xispa in courts), bur the sherco just does it so much better - yes there much more established firm but it's a sleek look and the greeves is bulky and square in comparison. Also, a final bit of gossip that he said to me was that he has designed and plans to have for next year (in same frame) a 4 stroke 300+cc with as much power as 2 stroke, side valve, wait for it..........supercharged!! Is that made up?!? If true I would assume it would run a carb with charge air blown through it...time will tell I guess! Congrat's on getting a finish though...I didn't! And that was on a proven bike...was rider error though, definatly not bike but hey that's a different story. If I can remember anything else he said I'll re-post.
  5. My mate didnt fancy paying for a new shaft so I turned down his knackered waterpump shaft and made a stainless sleeve with a slight interference fit on it, heated sleeve, chilled shaft and pressed together then set up in lathe again and finished O.D of sleeve (turned and emery'd it). Reassembled with new lubricated seals and that's gotta be 18 months ago now and bike is riden regularly with no problems to report.
  6. Hi got that website, sherco gear oil Loctite on disc bolts is mandatory I think!
  7. Loctite is a must with these machines! Well I changed gearbox oil again, bled clutch, sheared bleed nipple...oooops, and re-adjusted at the lever and at two nationals this weekend I didn't seem to have any problems, apart from it jumping out of second gear - but that's a separate issue! Hopefully the problem is fixed. I did notice that the gear oil was really dirty and not what I'd expect for how long it has been in there. The website was thumper talk Many thanks
  8. Hi thanks for replies can always rely on you guys! I'm currently bleeding clutch now with new fluid and will change gearbox oil to 10w40. The breather pipe unfortunatly has gone (fallen off like most bit's of my bike - kickstart jumped ship yesterday!?!?) is it required for a balance of pressure?? I don't really understand it's full purpose! Will it have an effect not being there? I will check for a blockage at brass type pipe that's left. Have just found on a different website, someone describing a similar problem with a 2.9 sherco which turned out to be the roller bearing on the clutch basket. He reckoned the rollers didn't have enough clearance so he honed the outer race by about 0.002" which he reckoned cured it. Is this likely to be a problem? I can't see that it would be when it seems to have just started recently?

    clutch

Hi, I'm currently having problems with my clutch on my sherco. The bite point seems to move further and further in until it's either dragging really bad or I can't disengage the clutch at all which at times has been scary! It seems to coincide with temperature increase as has been hot today and once turned off for maybe two minutes the clutch is fine again for another 2 minutes or so of riding. Winding the adjuster in has the usual effect of moving bite point out further but it will gradually work it's way back in again. Screw is now some 3 turn's in from where it started this morning! I tried a quick bleed earlier whilst riding, didn't have any fluid with me so didn't want to go too far and introduce air, also gear box oil is 2 rides old now - putoline light gear oil and I de-glazed the clutch plates today, but that had no effect and I didn't think it would seeing as bike is only 3 weeks old and shouldn't be an issue, but then I shouldn't have a migrating bite point either but had to rule it out as have had some success with this in the past when faced with this kind of problem! I could probably claim on warranty for this but need to fix asap as have 2 nationals over weekend and off to scotland week after Not good timing! Tomorrow I plan to change master cylinder seals/plunger and bleed clutch fully as assume it must be hydraulic related, maybe 'boiling' with temperature increase. Oh and the clutch doesn't feel any lighter or softer like there's air or something, it feels just the same as normal to operate just with a not so reliable release point. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
  10. Hi, I had this on a mates sherco and to save some pennies I ended up putting shaft in lathe, clocking it and machining it down a little, then made a stainless sleeve to near original outer dimensions. I made the I.D with a slight interference fit (couple of thou) to the shaft, then heated the sleeve and chilled the shaft, then pressed the two parts together and finished with emery to final O.D back in lathe. Bike has done 18 months now, regular use and no probs. So if you've got a lathe, or a friend with one or one at work or a friendly local engineering shop etc and an off cut of stainless, you to could save some pennies! It all comes down to the time/money scale!
  11. Haha we'll be fine :-) Beginners luck!
  12. i'm 243!? see ya there!
  13. Thanks guy's. Have sent an inquiry to west end hotel. Any other input on any other point's will be greatly appretiated.
  14. Gotcha. Thanks for that, makes sense
  15. Hi I to managed to get an entry and I'm trying to sort accomodation at the moment. Having never competed in the event, what is the reason for being less than a mile away from parc ferme? Can I not just drive van in each day if located further away?
