    Cleaning Exhuast Pipe

Anyone know how the mid pipe is constructed?? Is it just the aluminium outer pipe with the metal screen inside and nothing but air between the screen and the outer pipe? Or is there some kind of packing between the screen and the pipe?? I put a little gas in the mid pipe. very little actually didn't even have any come out the other end of the pipe. Hit it with a plumbers torch to get it going. got a pretty good chimney effect going and let it be. Damn thing burned long enough that I got a little nervous and put it out. . It showed no sign of going out anytime soon. I've torched several dirtbike pipes and they never took so long. I was starting to wonder if maybe there is something else in there and it should not be torched. Anything in there to worry about or should I fire it up again and finish the job???

    Love Rocks!

wonder if that pile of rock might not be quarry related?? Nice to have close by either way tho!!
  3. My brother has a 1990 or so 240 climber. Whats the trick to pulling the clutch basket. It does not appear to be like a jap dirtbike where you can use a tool to hold the basket from spinning. The nut spins along with the plates inside the basket. How do you keep the motor from spinning so you can break the nut loose. btw is it a normal thread or reverse thread?

    Knock

I pulled the exhuast pipe off and took a look inside the cylinder. Damn thing is as clean as a whistle. Top of piston is a little brown but everything else looks mint. Could there be a build up on the dome but everything else would look mint?? Exhuast pipe wasn't bad either. Head pipe isn't all gunked up and mid pipe doesn't look too bad. Although I have no idea what a clean one looks like. I'll blast it with some heat tomorrow. Silencer packing was pretty gunked up though.

    Cleaning Exhuast Pipe

Well I got it apart. but not before I raked my knuckles across the water pump hose hose clamp when the head pipe finally let go. Guess it would have gone faster if I knew how to swear in Italian. There was a reddish caulk that was used on both ends of the mid pipe along with the o rings. What is this stuff and do I need to use it to get a good seal when I put things back together or can I just go with the o rings??

    Cleaning Exhuast Pipe

04 200 Ok so does the pipe come out in 3 sections?? I got the silencer off and it looks like the mid pipe seperates from the head pipe but damned if I can get the head pipe to come off the mid pipe. Looks like the head pipe slips into the mid pipe and is held in place with some orings. I left the mid pipe in place and tried to take the head pipe off by pulling and twisting the head pipe towards the front of the bike. Not really budging. I'm guessing the pipe hasn't been touched since new. Word up on getting this focker apart!! Am I doing this right?? Thanks!!
  7. For those that didn't grow up with the benefit of american tv Link to kazoo ... errr Gazoo http://www.topthat.net/webrock/images/gazoo.gif http://www.squidge.org/~subrosa/ca/pics/flinstones01.jpg Age seems to be catchin up with me .... His name was gazoo not kazoo and he was on the flintstones not the jetsons!! ah the scourge of time.... Of course I realize how deathly important this sort of thing is to international trials community Maybe nzi should change the name to the Gazoo Tri vent
  8. who has some experience with these helmets? Trials helmets are very rare in the states. You can't ride down to the local dealer and try some on. I recently got an nzi through the mail and am wondering about the fit. My head measures right on the border between large and medium. I went with the large because I tried on a road bike helmet that was a large and it was a little tight. So I get this nzi and the thing is huge. I put it on and I look like kazoo from the jetsons. It looks way too big. However it fits kinda snug on my head. If i move it front to back it seems to hold my head pretty well. If i wobble it side to side it seems to rock on my head a bit, i.e. helmet is loose enough that it is moving on my head, not holding onto my head and moving together with my head. It don't feel so snug going side to side, but feels pretty good going front to back. wtf!! I call the distributor and he says that kind of the way trials helmet are. Unlike mx fullcoverage hats, you don't have those big cheeks pads so the helmet may look like it doesn't fit. He said if it feels good going front to back you are good to go. Word up!! Does this sound kosher?? I know all helmets vary a bit and some heads work better than others in certain makes. Whats up with these helmets??

    Knock

I have an 04 200. It does the engine knock thing. I've done the research and know there are a few different theorys on how to stop it. I was planning on going the decarbon route. The other day I forgot to bring my gas and bumed some fuel from a fellow rider who ran 50/50 race gas/premium. Needless to say the bike ran quite well as compared to the straight premium (93) it had in it. No engine knock. So my question is ... If carbon build up is the cause of the knock how come it did not knock with the 50/50 in it?? I would suspect the carbon would be just as hot in the motor weather or not you burn a 50/50 mix or straight 93. Word up!!
  10. 04 200 Was planning on pulling the pipe and give it a good cleaning. Anything to know about, tips/trick /precautions/warnings, specific to this bike?? I've never dealt with a "mid pipe" before. Is there anything in it?? Whats the prefered cleaning technique. Old school gasoline and a match?? Blast it with a good torch?? Roast it on the barbie?? I know about repacking, how easy/bad is it to pull off the pipe??
  11. Thanks guys. Kill button works like a charm For future reference, should someone pull this up on a search. Hook the black wire coming out of the bottom of the multi pin connector to the black wire from the switch and run the black/white from the switch to the upper bolt on the coil. Done.
  12. Yeah!! what he said! keeping in mind that I'm electronically impaired .... I did some poking around to try and see how to hook up the switch. The previous owner pulled off the switch. There is no head light or tail light wiring. There is one black wire that comes out of the bottom of what I would call a multi pin connector. Said black wire has the male end of flat blade connector that was put on there by the previous owner. Definitely not a factory connector. It was wrapped in electrical tape. My yammie switch has a black wire and a black/white wire. Do i hook up the yammie black wire w/the beta black wire and then run the yammie black/white to a ground?? say one of the screw holes on the triple clamps that looks like it is for mounting the headlight??
  13. anyone know anything about these?? http://www.onoffracing.com/catalogo/catalo...tagli.asp?id=37 Local guy in the states here is selling them, i don't mind supporting the local/small guy but I've never heard of them before. Maybe some of you euros are familiar with them ???
  14. 04 200 I put the kick stand back on my 200. It seems awfully damn close to the rear brake rotor when folded up. Do these things stay put or is that maybe the reason the previous owner took it off?? If that isn't bad enough the stand is so tight to the swing arm I can't get a foot on the damn thing to bring it down. Both times I had to use my hand. I've seen other stands that would have a tab of some sort to get your foot on to bring the stand down. Was there a clamp or something like that on my bikes stand that may be missing?? It's one snug fitting stand thats for sure. Previous owner pitched the beta kill switch. I picked up a yammie switch. anything i need to know regarding install, or is it pretty straight forward. Any hints on where to find where the switch plugs in/connects?? wiring is not a strong point of mine.
  15. This would happen to me when i was road racing, well pretending to road race, anyway I'm not a coffee drinker but I would drink 3 or 4 Dr peppers a day. The race track did not sell DP so i would just get water or milk that day. By about 9 pm I would have a screaming headache. I thought it was from being out in the sun too much. I found out later that 1 Dr. pepper had the same caffiene as 1/3 of a cup of coffee. Ta Da caffiene withdrawl headache. It didn't figure this out until i decided to stop drinking soda. Then i got the same vicious headaches as i did at the end of race day. btw nothing absolutely nothing gets rid of a caffeine withdrawal headache. You just gotta sit there and ride it out!! If it's not caffeine withdrwaral I'd put my money on the fumes
  16. when i was a kid back in the 70's they said we would run out of oil in 1985!! BTW the usa has enough coal reserves to last 200 yrs at our present rate of all forms of energy consumption. I believe China has even more coal the the states Fire up some new nuke plants and get the clean coal technology going and we're good for another hundred years or so.!! They also were saying that we were heading into a new Ice age. Now they are saying we are all going to melt. Not a very good track record if you ask me.

    De Carbon

Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll do a little head scratching before i pull any engine parts off!! Definitely don't like the way it runs right now.

    De Carbon

My new to me 04 200 has the knock everyone talks about. I'm thinking i'll give it a good de carbon. Is this as simple as pulling the head and cleaning the piston top and i would assume underside of the head. Or do you have to pull the jug too? And how and what do you use to clean/scrape the carbon off with. The owners manual is pretty minimalist. Is there a service manual for this bike? I'm in the states btw. Previous owner did all the carb mods and i realize there may be some jetting i can play with plus mixing race gas etc etc. but I'm wondering whats involved with going the de-carbon/coke route
  19. Well I just spent about a half hour playing around on a small bit of ledge out front. This 44 yr old dirtbiker who is a noob to the trials world is glad he got a beta 200. Maybe with a little more time in the saddle i'll think i need more juice but ... There were at least two instances where a 280 would have looped out or sent me packing. imo there ain't nothing wrong with 200 at all!! Right now I'm happy and my bod is happy I got a two hunny!!
  20. Can still get bernies book for $15!! http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_inf...roducts_id=2314
  21. Harley Davidson Electra Glide with Cruise control and a stereo!!! I gotta look into putting a hitch on the HD. Then I can tow the trials bike instead of using the pick up!!! Actually the HD and snowmobile are somewhat expendable. My main passion is the woods bike (gas gas 300) and snow skiing.
  22. Good or bad it's in my shed now. Of course after a record warm fall and early winter when I could have been riding ... The cold and snow is due to arrive tonight. Probably be snowed in until mid april now!! Oh well at least i'll get some use out of my snowmobile!!
  23. Woods rider, trials noob looking at an 04 rev 3 200. to play with. $3100 w/fresh rear tire. It's got the off throttle knock which i've read up on. carb modded with the drilling thing and so it don't pee. appears to be in good shape. Motor seems kinda wimpy, not a whole lot of juice there when you twist it. Sounds a little funny off throttle, runs on a bit, might just be the way it is? I'm used to that 2t dirtbike meaty braaaap. Who knows maybe a de carbon and some jetting and I'll be smiling. wimpy or not 200 might be good to learn on. Not a lot of bikes in this neck of the woods. this one is twenty minutes away, vs. 3 hours one way! hmmm what to do?? I'd feel a little better if the carberation seemed better Venturing into the unkown with your own hard cold cash sucks!!! what to do .......
