    Beta Carburetors

Would some of that softness disappear if the bike was properly jetted. any cheap easy motor mods to give a little more grunt? One thing I'm wondering about is why an over 50 competitive rider is going from a 200 to a 280. Wondering if he found the bike a little too soft. Another thing I'm wondering about is the terrain I'll be playing in. New England White pine forest with a lot of glacial erratics, stuff the size of a small car, Ford focus, VW bug type stuff. There are a lot of "cool" lines that I think would require some hopping to get up onto. Wondering if that will be an issue w/my 190 to 200 lbs on board. Keeping in mind that i'm a trials noob but do have lots of dirtbike experiance. Don't want a bike I'll be looking for more out of by the middle of the summer. On the whole I prefer smaller bikes as they are easier to throw around, so I'm not anti 200. In fact my main ride is a gas gas 300 enduro bike and after some seat time on a properly jetted gas gas 200 enduro I wouldn't have any problems with having that 200 as my only enduro bike. Yes I know ...Italian!! I have a soft spot anything on two wheels made in Italy!! Thats one of the reasons I was looking at it!!

    Beta Carburetors

I wasn't really comparing bikes, It was more the carburation. I know the bikes are very different but crisp carburation is the same no matter what the bike. After a little searching there does seem to be a bit of chatter on beta carbs. Don't know if it's anything that should keep me from trying the brand tho.

    Beta Carburetors

I've read that betas have carb issues. (and just did a quick scan of the two threads on this page) Something that evidently spans a number of years. One of those bike personality things. Is this true? I got to test ride an 04 beta 200 today and the carburation didn't seem to good. I really may not have noticed but I hopped on an 06 gas gas 280 right after getting off the 200. The carburation on the gasser was nice and crisp. made it feel like you knew what the motor was doing. The beta felt kind of burbally right off the bottom, didn't have good feel, Sort of a sloppy throttle, crappy response thing. No connection betwen your wrist and the motor. I'm not talking about power delivery. I know they are vastly different bikes and motors. I'm talking more about how the throttle felt in response to what the motor was doing or should be doing. If this is kind of normal I might look foir a gasser 200, or 280. Bike was used by and over 50 competitive rider so I would assume it's properly jetted. Air temp was 32 F so I'm not sure if that was an issue. Cold air makes things too lean doesn't it. This felt weird, to too rich. Beta appeared to be in very good condition and seemed to be well taken care of. Going for $3100 usd btw. Includes new rear tire. Is that price high, low, or about right? At this point if money wasn't an issue I think i'd go with the 06 gasser. I'm not a big fan of messing with carbs.
  4. Nice boat!!! What do they use it for??
  5. I think some fancy Italian designer bought the name or something. Trying to reposition the brand into something fancy and high end. read an article about it a year or two back.
  6. If you want to get on Spike ... your gonna have to lose the lycra. Skinny 160 pound guys dressed in one piece skin tight lycra suits riding weird bikes ain't gonna cut it on SPIKE TV!! Didn't see any of those rock crawlers dancing around in full lycra now did ya!!!

    Aux Tank And Seat

A PIC!!! Thanks dude! That doesn't look too bad!! Looks like it would open up another avenue of use for the bike. I'm in the states btw. Tried to add that on my profile but for some reason couldn't get it done.

    00 315 Price Check

Thanks for the reply. Seemed a bit high to me. not sure on the clutch. I'm guessing stock. Seller seemed like a nice enough guy didn't seem in a hurry to negotiate price tho.
  10. 2000 315r $1900 Good/ok condition, plastics show some wear. no major dings or dents. This year, new clutch, brake pads, fork seals and skid plate. Last year all of the rear suspension linkage bearings replaced and new header pipe as well as new piston and rings. Has an extra 1 gallon tank, V-force reeds new in box, ryan youngs how to ride tape, another advanced riding technique tape and two other trials vids. It needs new chain and sprockets. Not sure but i think it also needs front wheel bearings and maybe steering stem bearings. It looks like it could use new rubber front and back. I'm guessing the sprockets and chain at $150 to $175, Tires $200?? bearings $50 to $100 What do you think??

    Aux Tank And Seat

Thanks for the replies but no luck yet. Lewisport has all kinds of 4rt w/seat tank combo but no 315r Trp site doesn't seem to work well w/my computer?? Maybe it's time for an upgrade Didn't come up with anything on the sandiford site either They do make a combo for the 315 don't they ... or am I mistaken and it's a 4rt only thing??

    Aux Tank And Seat

anyone got a picture of a 315 with the tank and seat combo you can get for long distance riding. I've been looking around for one but haven't come up withanything yet. Where can you order them from. i didn't seee anything on the montesa site.
  13. 2000 beta rev3 270 v. 2000 montesa 315r non trials rider thinking about getting a t bike for cross training and playing. Have pics of both beta looks show room mint, literally looks right off the floor. $2000 3 hours away = 6 hour round trip to check out 315r has been ridden but looks very good and has many new parts. same owner for the last 5 yrs used as playbike. asking $1900 1 hour away = 2hour round trip to check out. I'm looking for something that is easy to take care of as my enduro bike is my main ride and i don't want a bike I gotta wrench on all the time. ride/play around on it and roll it into the shed till next time. from what i've read the tesa/honda is the easiest to look after so i'm leaning that way. Still the beta looks brand spankin new! Any big difference in how these bikes would ride/behave?? Especially in the hands for a noob?? thoughts and opinions please. Thanks
  14. Non trials rider wondering if the ledge/rock in the following pics would make a good practice rock. It is actually in the middle of a 120 unit apartment complex that i run. I also live on site and keep my bikes on site. The one thing i wonder about is I would have to be nice to the lawn areas around the ledge. I'm wondering how the grass might stand up or if i'd get bored because i would have to be easy on the grass and couldn't really utilize the area. 2nd pic is a little bigger to get a better idea of the rock A little over exposed but the face on this side is about 2 foot sheer. Total height of rock is about 3 1/2 maybe 4 foot from the pavement Rock has several 1 to 2.5 foot sheer faces. Good practice for steps!!

    Posting Pic

I suppose that the internet having been around for oh .. what 15 years now , that i should know how to post pics. However i'm, slightly cyber impaired. I poked around the site and found no how to's. I did find the image icon on the tool bar over the message field. It leads me to believe you need to have the pic already out there on the net some where. This true?? Or can you post directly to the site??
  18. http://youtube.com/watch?v=r5LfntxWQp4&amp...ted&search= You trials guys should get a kick out of this. Enduro riders giving some big trees thier best shot. I'm curious if there is an actual technique that would work getting over those monsters on an enduro bike. The one guy that tried to bounce the front wheel off and then do the same with the rear tire went pretty damn high and while he did land it. He almost went over the bars in a bad way!! That technique may work if there was a kicker just in front of the log. but there weren't any kickers that i could see. On top of that a knobby won't grab hold of the tree like a trials tire. Even if you do manage to launch the bike right, the rear knob may spin/slid out killing the deal right there. If there were no go around I think i would use a modified bubba scrub technique. Basically get the bike up on the tree sitting on the skid plate then lay it on it's side and get the rear tire to go over and let the bike plop down on the ground parallel to the tree trunk. mount up and ride off.
  19. No apology required .... Happy to touch off some memories Nothing wrong with a little bench racing. Still not sure if I'll follow through on getting a trials bike. Took a look at my bro's climber and its all there and still in good shape. Lot cheaper to get it up and running for him then to drop $2 to 2.5K on a newer bike just to find out if i'm into it.

    Spinning Mains

Noob going to look at an 02 sherco 2.9. tomorrow. Original owner was a senior b rider, current owner did a little trialing and playing. Ive been poking around the net to see what i can dig up on these bikes. I came across a few threads about sherco's spinning the mains. Would this pertain to this model and vintage?? Is it something to be concerned about when looking at shercos or just "talk on the net"? An affliction for a particular year or model??
  21. noob kicking around trials sites trying to get a feel for things. I'm curious, if specific to trials riding, there is one reason or another if you would want smooth power or light switch power. Or is it just like trail riding and dependent on rider style and preference.

    Model Review

    Thanks for the replies!!
  23. hmm 80 views and no replies. that says something right there. Not much of a knowledge base out there on these bikes ... smart money says to go with something more modern and still in use.

    Hey Beta Guys

Do me a favor and check out this thread and substitute the word beta for gas gas and let me know what betas would fit the bill. Thanks! http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/index....showtopic=11006
