Barcota, are you any relation to Carl Peters by chance?
-
Ok Al, since nobody else will bite.
The rider should possess sufficient skills, stamina and endurance to successfully complete the event.
Mastery of most basic skills such as Floater Turns, Camber Turns, Double Blips, Zaps, Jumps and Splatters would be required in most cases.
The ability to "HOP" to position the front or rear wheels would be helpful, but not required.
How Bout That!
-
Sendero makes a good point putting Sporstman at the bottom of the ladder as that is still consistant with the NATC. Bottom Class within the series.
The term Clubman still seems less degrading than Novice. We want new riders to feel encouraged and accepted and the title is appropriate. Participation is a big thing in growing new riders!
As some suggested, Intermediate would still work as a mid point in a six line system.
Advanced would naturally follow. These are many of your potential National support class riders, if they want to ! Also consistant!
Then of course Expert.
Then it would be between Master and Champ for the top class both locally and Regionally. Pro would be resreved for the Nationals. Master seems to have more signifigance in the history of trials. Not that all clubs have enough riders to need to use it, but it would be available for top riders, state or club level top riders, Champ for regional series type events.
Remember all this EXCLUDES exceptions such as kids, women, senior and the visiting Pro. I know that by just addind a few Pro splits to our Master lines has kept folks like Avalah,Peters and Chaves happy in the past, gives them something to do! Nobody has to USE all of the classes either, just be consistant!
Need More Beer Now!
-
Probably costs the same as a Monty too!
-
Been a while since I bought one, probably around 150 of your squids!
-
I think Al was posting as I was writing, just to add remember the majority of the central part of the country runs AM/PM with three lines each!
This is NOT a format change!
-
Thanks for the encouragement Dan, I'm not sure why we need to re write the rulebook too but we'll take it one step at a time.
Lets see now,
Ridge, Can WE forget about the NATC? I wish it were so but I don't think so.
Will they change anything? Doubtful if a class name change would occur without MASSIVE demand and insistance by clubs nationwide.
Ridge, you have broken your own KISS rule with 7 classes just to keep INTERMEDIATE in the MIDDLE! If the term intermediate means nothing more than that, then I tend to like the CLUBMAN term better! Signifies a regular club member and participant in events!
The term SPORTSMAN as currently used by the NATC signifies a rider who is capable and willing to participate in events on a club, regional and national level, similar to a JOURNEYMAN designation in the trades.
Expert and Champ or Master classes seem a given for regional or national competitions, although that Champ/ Master thing needs to be figured out.
Therefore I shall propose:
Champ/ Master
Expert
Sportsman
Advanced
Clubman
Novice
I'm liking that better all the time!
Kids only/ Youth/ Rookie classes are sub classes, we actually run separate youth events called Cadet for bicycles and motorcycles, but that is a different deal.
Which also brings back another point, we are not asking anyone to change format here, just NAMES!
I need a beer now!
-
What about consistency with the NATC naming though?
-
-
Looks to me like Chaves just made one of them comments about Montesa riders in Spanglish and Johnny is trying to figure out what he said! Pendejo?
Pendejo - NOUN!
Pendejo is a single pubic hair. In Mexico
-
Al, don't get me wrong as I totally agree.
Seems a 6 class system is most favored.
We do not seem to have such a problem here as throughout tht Central Regional states it is already consistant as far as I have seen. I do not know what they do in CO.
Ridgrunr makes good points about the NAMING as well. Beginner and Amature should not be used.
To maintain consistancy with the National level riders and NATC, you need to be a good intermediate rider(Sportsman) or expert to compete.
So that leaves:
Master or Champ
Expert
Sportsman
Advanced
Intermediate
Novice
Intermediate would still be the middle line, in the AM!
Simple HU?
Now call Dan and get it done and put my check in the mail!
-
As we ride morning/ afternoon here it would be difficult with only 5 classes.
Maybe those sub classes would work, lets see:
S= Sportsman
s= Suck worse than Sportsman!
N= Novice
n= Now you really stink!
Two lines/ four classes for the morning riders should just about do it!
-
The V-rubber is hot shi--te at the price, compare it to the Michelin!
-
I kind of liked that idea about moving the "MASTER" line down a notch or two! Gives me something to aim at!
But if the Hard line in the PM is Master, what should my Hard line in the AM be called ?
Yea, I'm ready, DUH!
-
-
Sorry Al, I could not resist!
I think it may be smoke and mirrors really!

Bagger, the platinum is a premimum plug and in a two stroke engine typically offer better resistance to loading up and fouling as well as long life.
Normally the improved conductivity and durability of the material along with its smaller diameter allows you to open the gap somewhat to provide more efficient ignition of the fuel mixture, so opening up the gap from the recommended .020 to .025-.030 in a Sherco is not out of the question. I have not experimented yet! But I do know that the low output systems on these bikes need all the help they can get!
I have found that here in the US, NGK has deleted the platnum plug in favor of the Irridium, however it is a resistor type which nullifies some of the advantages of the use in these LOW output systems.
There are other crossover plugs out there, but I do not have the time or inclination to become a test pilot for them. The VX plugs have been tested with no complaints that I am aware of. I am not sure how far you can open them up though. Rule is always the farther the better as I currently understand , which makes sense!
With the help of some friends, the 2 I got from the UK were sent by individuals as the Brit dealers will not ship them here on there own!
That is all I can tell you for now!
-
The question came up at the WTC event about dented muffler repair, specifically on an older bike that did not have the plastic guard.
Although there have been several methods tried including covering them up with the carbon fibre guards which I am not sure are available anymore, the best thing I have found so far is trimming a section of ATP (aluminum tread plate), form to fit, and tack welding it on to the muff.
Looks good and provides additional reinforcement and is replaceable if need be.
And the plastic guard makes a good outline for one!
BTW Alan, Brian kneeds one!
-
If I had known you wanted to do all that I would have brought plenty of ammo to take you out for some self defense lessons with the pocket cannon!
-
No Ishy and Nigel, I am not joking quite yet!
As even Bigwig stated, there is a progression of ability and confidence and maturity that occurs naturally for those chosen few. I do believe that Alexz has the potential after seeing him ride, although I do not believe he is quite there yet, and the point of referance IS TOMMI A., as that is the only thing we have to draw from. Tommi is solid as a rock and his experience shows!
Call Tommi and ask him! He can tell you first hand what it is like trying to make a living riding in the US for a living!
Then, there is also the story about HAM and EGGS!
The chickens did their best!
The pigs were committed!
-
Great job Brian!
Next time we'll have to do PRESS awards and intentionly mis-spell
C-R-A-G!
-
SOO, it was you two blasting off the fireworks in the middle of the nite! HU?
-
Ron is correct, those kids train like heck and it shows in both their stamina and ability.
When most the experts toungs were hanging out these kids were kicking butt and taking names!
Alexz and the others are all good kids and it really is a pleasure to see them get a chance to ride together as Ronnie Commo did!
-
Really, Brian, I would not lie to you, it was only driven by this little Spanish girl for one weekend!
I think she could probably make an honest man out of Ringo, he would make a good minder by the time she finished with his training!
-
As the manifold vacume changes the little diaphram in the pump pushes the fuel through the little valves and sends it to the carburator! Duh!
Why, you ask, the motor needs fuel to run! Duh again!
I noticed Taddy had one on the 4T Scorpa as well!
The only thing I can figure is that the antigravity boots these kids are wearing has some sort of adverse effect on normal fuel flow.
In accordance with some law of physics and the first rule of plumbing, sh--t usually runs downhill just fine all by itself. However I did witness that rattling a-s Scorpa make it up a couple of hills so now I see the need for the pump.
Simple as that!
Maybe Bigwig knows more, as I was not able to get anything out of the Sherco kids with one due to the language barrier as they did not speak redneck very well! I do not think Alexz used one though.
