It is really not that difficult, just take a new Sherco and cast the motor in magnesium as well as the swingarm, hubs, and fork legs and clamps, make the frame and steel parts from titanium.
Then get the FIM regs changed in tires to save another 1.5k!
More EXTREME than the Raga bike? Yes! Cost! Probably not worth it!
It just costs too much!
Will it improve my riding?
Yea right!

I know that Alan may be a bit heavier since getting off his diet but it think Dan is going to take care of that in preparation for the world round.
At 180 lbs it seems like I cannot get the thing set as per recommended specs of 2"- 2.5" loaded sag without over preloading the spring. If I set the preload to achieve about 5-10mm sag unloaded with just the weight of the bike, I get about 3 or more inch loaded sag. I know that this effects the front end geometry increaseing the rake angle and hampers turning.
Lane L. was recommending using the heavy spring on the Works Performance shock for riders 180lbs and up. I think that the same may apply for the stock shock.
Alan, if you have that extra spring broken in already it may be just right for me. Let me know what you want for it!

Have you tried the heavy spring on the Sherco?
-
I think the springs in Texas are about to be flooded!
I'll post it on the Sherco forum!
-
Ish,
If it has a typical stator plate with 3 screws, be sure it is oriented properly and not 120 deg out of time.
All else being correct, the magnet may have slipped in the flywheel causing an incorrect trigger point. That's all I can think of.
When are you going to answer my question about the spring?

Alan,
Shut up and load up the tractor, you may have a LOT of brush to clean up at TTC soon!

The shock is not serviceable to the best of my knowledge! The 9tooth front gear may well be worth the small investment though!
Sorry!
-
Many riders switched to the nine tooth front sprocket on the '02 bike. Makes it more controllable, or a 44t rear.
The Kiehin carb smoothes the power also on the bottom.
Nigel says that the boyesen reeds work as well.
The intake spacer and longer header pipe from the '05 bike are designed to smooth the power also.
And just a reminder, the higher octane fuels provide smoother power, 98 RON if you can get it.
And last but not least, a Sherco 2.0 is a smooth runner!

Obviously there has been an oversight on the part of our resident admin for disallowing posts from exhisting members in the NEW area!
I believe all us old farts should properly introduce ourselves as well!
Only ONE catch! All posts must begin with :
Hello, my name is X, and I am a Trials Junkie. I am also a W--k-r over trials videos and I have a problem! I make all the meetings and always introduce myself while offering a Stout(or reasonable faxcimilie) or some other friendly gesture! And BTW, I believe that ANYTHING that is not the proper brand scuks!
Lets hear from the unruly lot!

ISHY,
Not exactly on topic, but have you tried the heavy rear spring? RE500 made me think of that!
-
I sent an e-mail to my contact at Scorpa France just for You.
He said in the rough translation that it sounded about right!
E-m B&J Racing in the States, they can tell you more!

Looks like a Gas Gas to me!

Something to note!
The bearing will measure less clearance when it is in oil, as the oil provides a "cushion".
Wayne, do the bearings spec at "C2" or "C3"?
ps- always ck air filter for water after washing the bike as this is the most common reason for dirt ingestion and bearing wear in a Sherco. You will lucke if the throttle slide does not stick, wide open!
-
I think that the "heavy" spring may be better for riders over 180lbs to really dial it in, otherwise, you have to preload the spring too much to achieve the 60-65mm loaded sag.
I've been trying to get one of the Works Preformance adjustable /rebuildable shocks, but hav'nt had any luck yet.
-
There has to be some looseness in the main bearings or they would lock up. A couple of thousandths is normal, 3 or 4 may be the limit for service I would guess, .005 or more would be bad!
-
Nige,
The air helps push the oil through the little holes, silly!
Now really, I said they re adjustable with air, I did'nt say the dampening was adjustable!
However is IS somewhat adjustable by blending different viscosity oils.
Saw what looked like some reworked damper rods on the Paxau site, will you try them and let me know if they work? I'll trade you a case of Texas Beer for them!
I have also seen proper schrader valves fitted to the sherco fork for those who carry a few more of them stones that you fellas keep over there!
-
I need to hire a Mexican to interpret!
There may be some good stuff here!
-
ps- I tried hard to keep shut!
And Nige, your fronts ARE adjustable , with AIR!
-
Ck for an air leak! Did you get them crank seals in correctly?
-
OK, I want to hear this response!
-
Now Hondas-r-us is a Sherco expert too! Simply amazing !
-
Some "chatter" is normal when idleing in neutral due to gear backlash.
Seems I recall a change to the aluminum water pump impeller in '01
'01 had the "low" first gear which many liked!
-
About two pounds.
Now if I could just get that weight on the flywheel!
