Clark,
If thats a pic of your carb you could call them "Big Chuck Jet" and "Little Chuck Jet' as they probably had no numbers when you got the bike, the Dremel tool wore them off!
-
Charlie,
Is that tube so the crap can run IN?
-
Alan,
I rode the one that Ryan had last year, has good torque compared to most other minis. It is NEARLY a full sized bike though and I can't remember how big your boy is. I think the forks are a bit shorter than the full size bikes too, making it sit lower along with the smaller wheels.
The Rev 80 is nice too and is a few pounds lighter with full size wheels as I recall.
I am only sure about one thing, they are both expensive!
Do I recall Tony and Laura B. having a Sherco 80 for sale?
What was Bo Ibsen riding at the YN, he had a Sherco 80 last year and his bikes are usually for sale at the end of season.
Cheers,
M.C.

yOU CAN ALSO UES THE CAPS TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO RIDE HEIGHT. IF YOU OPEN THE VALVES AND COMPRESS THE FRONT END BEFORE LOCKING THEM DOWN THE FRONT WILL SIT A BIT LOWER WHICH DECREASES THE RAKE AND MAKES THE BIKE TURN A BIT SHARPER IN TIGHT SECTIONS. THATS THE THEORY ANYWAY. bE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT ENOUGH THAT THEY DON'T LEAK!
oOOOPS! cAPS oN!

THESE REPAIR IDEAS ALL SOUND VERY GOOD, not sure what araidite is? I also know of a metallized epoxy resin called DEVCON F that is sold by Grainger here in the states. It may work well too, but I hope I do not have to try it!
Beta Boy's original idea reminds me of a fellow demonstrating a form of super glue at a trade show I attended this spring. When he wanted to build up an area in a surface he added a special powder to the glue and when it hardened it was totally machineable. You could build up areas in chipped ceramics, metals and such very easily.
Turning the tube in a lathe and finishing with 600-1000 grit would polish the tube to a fine finish when the repairs are completed.
I usually try to fix things to get by till the end of the season then either replace everything that needs replacing or just get a new(or newer) bike!

Ron Commo is a member of this forum but I think he may be at the youth nationals in Tennessee right now.
-
-
I was told by the US Beta importer that they come from the factory jetted rich and that you need to re-jet after initial break in. Call Ron Commo if you can and he will tell you the preferred jetting.

Clark is just kidding about all that good ole CA.B.S.! He likes it HOT and BALMY here in Texas where if you fall down during practice the scorpions and rattlers will eat you. Makes you keep your feet on the pegs eh!
-
Nigel, do you have a new one you could measure?
-
Based upon the advise ov one of the top national riders here in the US and due to the fact that I am lazy, I have used nothing but WD-40 to lube the stinking thing for the last couple of years. After pressure washing (cleaning) put bike on stand and soak it good and spray down your spoke nipples while you are there rotating the wheels (keeps them from rusting too). Wipe off excess and you are done.
As the WD tends to dry very thin, you may want to re apply during a muddy or really dusty trial, that is the only time I get a lot of (sling off). As I seldom need to adjust the chain, the wear due to the thinner lubricant must be minimal. After about 20 trials on the '03 Sherco it is curremtly on the #3 (of 9) setting properly adjusted.
I scoffed the idea too until I tried it. I do believe a good chain lasts longer! I read something on prep for the Scottish that said to get rid of the stock chain on a Gasser! A cheap chain will wear out quicker regardless, or just replace it more often.
Cheers!

Nigel,
I ran the Active reeds in my '01 bike, seemed smooth on the bottom with a strong mid range, have not tried the Boysen product.
The late production '03 bike that I currently have has the new ignition and seemed to be (as the '04's) very powerful and quick. First thing I did was retard the timing to settle it down a bit. Also helps starting (less or no kickback) and less prone to stalling at low revs.
I rode Wayne t's bike with the PWK and it seemed too much, very precise but also very powerful when you crack her open a bit. May be better with the timing set back a bit, don't know.
David Chaves's bike with the V-force reeds and PWK is really quick and powerful. I could kill myself in a hurry on it!
I really wish they made a (true) 200cc bike! Oh Well! For now, i am still spoiled with the big low end torque of the 2.9!
Still seems to me though, the smoothest ones were the '00 model 2.5's!
Cheers
-
Do they make a PWK 26 as the chart on Marlintec's post suggests?
I do not want more power from the 2.9 (too much already), just smoother delivery!
Any suggestions?
-
Any pics of the ringmaster?
-
Congrats Ishy,
I have been working on some air box ideas and will try to post some pics soon. The pressure washing tests have worked so far!
-
Wayne, do you think you could get us a spec off a new bike for the fork oil level measured with a dipstick through the vent caps and the bike sitting on a stand.
Also any recommendation on oil type would be appreciated as the factory seems to recommend 4wt. I have not found this oil available.
The best I can find is the 5wt Maxima oil. True viscosities seem to vary with mfg. Suggestions appreciated!

The weights on the official TTC certified scale are:
Montesa (no lights) 167 lbs
Beta (w/lights) 164 lbs
Scorpa 250(w/lights) 162 lbs
Sherco 2.9 (w/lights) 159 lbs
Gasser Pro 280 (w/lights) 156 lbs
More in Trials Comp Magazine

No Thanks, Red Man, I kinda like gear shifters that work and kickstarters as well. And I really hate having to replace fork seals every two weeks! The gasser was two pounds lighter though when we weighed them as I recall. It'll all be in Trials Comp. soon!

Not sure where Wayne is, but I happened to ask the jetting question after riding his bike last week at the nationals. I believe he told me 45/120 but he will need to confirm that as my memory is good yet short. The different needle may be just the trick to setting it right but as far as I know he has not changed his, but then I do not know what it comes with for sure!

I think what you are describing is normal as mine seems to do it as well, so did my '01 bike. Not sure what it is!
-
Remove the carburator and clean it. The idle passeges and jet must be clean. The smallest object/particle can block the passage thru the low speed jet and cause these symptoms. You should be able to see thru the jets when held to the light. This is in addition to Alan and JT's recommendations. First things first!
If you are not sure how, contact your dealer or a local bike shop to inspect the carb.
Cheers!

All this being said, chances are the Doctor is not going to do much anyway except cause you more discomfort. Let it heal as best possible and get some braces. Then do the workouts.
If it is THAT bad, meaning unstable, that you cannot reliably walk on it , then go the long route and get it fixed properly. This is only neccessary in extreme cases.
A 50/50 mix of rum and coke helps in the meanwhile!
Riders ,wear your braces! Cheap insurance!
Cheers!

Same thing happened to me at the local airport when one of my flight instructor buddies that had lots of experience on a street bike decided he wanted to ride the Sherco. After a briefing, I pointed him out to a nice open area on the ramp and told him to just do big circles. After about the second one he started giving the bike a bit of throttle and started this jerking thing which continued all the way back towards the hangar.
While I was screaming "clutch and brake" he managed to jerk his way into the hangar and lay the bike down on the slick floor just before wiping out the wing of a Cherokee, but the handlebar managed to make a nice hole in the bottom of the fiberglass engine cowling.
He was not hurt but he got fired from the job for being a screw up!
Be careful!

Some of us may travel as much as 3000 miles to reach an event, so read this!
A pretty simple plan to take the power back. I'm in.
Read on....Subject: GAS WAR!
Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going
around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gaso line priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.60 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas
come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!
And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our
cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas
prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gaso line
from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they
are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.
It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friend s each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am ... so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably
be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN . THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
-
Charlie, it should work just fine!
