I was always under the impression that bikes designed for injection and ones designed for pre-mix lubrication had different lower rod end designs and were completely incompatible. In such cases as the TY80...there is no lubricating hole in the lower rod for the pre-mix to lubricate the bearing.
Not saying Im right...in fact it appears that I am wrong, but this is what I always thought.
Not on the 12...I never took off the band brake so I cant help you there.
The sprocket comes off with a little work. The little Hex heads are thread locked on so I would suggest using some heat to break the lock. I also had to replace a few of the hex heads.
I replied to your PM but I think it was lost in hyperspace...heres a step by step.Remove fork caps, front wheel and brakes
Take forks off
Deep down in fork is a Allen button bolt
Remove this bolt(you will need a 5mm Allen head socket and an extension(s) long enough to reach this bolt)
Do this to both sides
The forks will the come apart easily
When you take them apart familiarize yourself with the orientation of the plastic pieces.
I got a cheap Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner and use that to clean stuff like carbs, calipers, small parts...etc. It desnt hold a lot of fluid but it works great on cleaning a carb.
You can use water, denatured alcohol or carb cleaner.
I think the biggest mistakes new trials riders make is they try to do the big, cool things. Like big ledges or rocks. The best thing a novice can do for practice is find a flat field and work on turning and slipping the clutch.
Theres also a test of the Evo at Motocross Digital.
You have to go to www.motocrossdigital.com and click on the cover of the latest issue (largest one on top) and follow the screens, they will email you a link to download the latest issue for free. It starts on page 80.
My son wants to go to the Youth Nats next year. A while back I made a deal with him that if he could clean a particular turn/rock/log combo in the yard we could go. It was a tough section and it took him some time he finally cleaned it. Now he can do it pretty easy.
I am just concerned that the sections may be too much for him since he is only 4. Does anyone have any of the easiest line so I can compare to what he's currently capable of? TTC has nothing.
Also...whats the camp like that same week?
Bear with me on this one...
A while back, maybe in 07, we had a thread here about a section at a WTC RD that had a nasty climb up a rock ledge. The were gates about a 1/3 of the way up with more gates at the top. Most riders tried making the whole climb up until one rider saw a line that he could use to the side after he cleared the 1st gates. Someone even diagrramed the section here on TC. I think we even had a video.
I was wondering if anyone recalls this thread...and can help me find it?
Im sure if I knew the round I would be able to find it.
Oh good I am glad you found them useful.
I actually got the springs from a ACE Hardware. The springs were a lot of guesswork. I got springs that are about 1/2 the origional rate. I can tell you that they are 3" long and 1" wide. The coil size is .105 IIRC. I'll see if I can find the exact size.
My son is pretty small and I was surprosed after all the trial and error to see that such soft springs worked the best.
I agree with you about the grip diameter.
You can use compressed air and a air nozzle.
I also suggest you water proof the bike using dialectric grease and rubber mastic tape. It allows you to spray it down with water. The only place you need to really keep water out of is the throttle.
To me it sounds like a bad throttle.
What year is the bike?
What does the indicators on the throttle show for power?
The batteries need to charge 12 hours or more for the first few charges. I always charge ours over night....but I would bet its a bad throttle.
You will need to trace the throttle wire back to see if you have a 2 connector throttle or a single connector throttle.
Sorry no scanned copies.
I'd like to see how other organzations run thir events. Our clubs attendence is low and we have very few returning "new" riders. I would like to see if its something we are doing wrong or if its just because of the U.S poor econmical state.
If you have an online rulebook could you either PM me the link or post it here. You can also email it to me to the addy below.
