For those people not familiar with what is happening in Canada -sometimes referred to as "The Great White North"
this past couple of years has seen a new organizing body emerge, called the WEC - this stands for World Enduro Canada, and it was formed as an alternative to the CMA or Canadian Motorcycle association. - Almost out of the box - the new group were outstandingly successful, the Enduro riders loved the enthusiasm and expertise of the WEC, who scheduled a true National Series across this great Country. It should be noted that the guys who head up the WEC are Out and Out enthusiasts, they do however have business savvy, and a big Ace in the hole, with a link to a large Insurance company that covers all the problems associated with hosting an event.
The next step was to involve the Trials riders, and this was accomplished in 2009, with a National Series, that was repeated in 2010.
- the success of the National series was noticed by the MCC ( Motorcycle Industry Council) who have now donated funds to the renamed World Trials Canada to promote the sport. - Although the WEC/WTC are not as yet affiliated with the FIM. - It would appear that this is only a matter of time, as enthusiasts tend to vote with their dollars.

Not exactly on topic - But I thought I would mention to all our friends from South of the border, that we have the first two rounds of the WTC ( World Trials Canada) Championship on the May 21st long weekend, at Summerland BC - this is a beautiful spot in the Okanagan Valley. ( just North of the border)
There are no hidden fees or clubs to join - you just show up & pay the entry - $30 per day or $50 for both. - this also part of our Outlaw Series which has been going on for the past 24 years and the vintage (twin shock) event will run on the Monday. - for further details you can email daverhodes@shaw.ca

The Vancouver Motorcycle Show started today January 20th, at the Tradex Center near Abbotsford BC.
Trials fans can see all the latest bikes, and also a Trials demo on Saturday & Sunday.
Mountain Motorcycle will have a big display as usual, showing all the latest Trials and Enduro bikes
from Beta and Sherco. - Outlaw Dave will also be on hand on Saturday to help out, plus answer any
questions on the upcoming May long weekend, WEC National Trial.

Totally agree Billy - Head banging music spoils many tapes - I shut off the speakers.
Sadly you also find this now happening on Formula One and Moto GP.

When it comes to choosing what bike to ride, it really depends on what "Turns you on" - Most people who ride the vintage bikes do so because they love the nostalgia of the old machines, they spend hours on "fettling" to improve the way they perform, this often includes fitting new style 2 ply tires ( the old bikes had 4 ply) and higher Renthal handlebars, plus moving the footpeg position.
Although this class is small in Canada, it's huge in other parts of the World.
Being twenty years older than Copetech, I remember most of the bikes from Yesteryear, and while they can't be compared to the specialized models of today - back then they were the very best.
If it's just a case of money, the TY mono would be an excellent choice, as these can be picked up fairly cheaply. - Whatever you buy, make sure it's in good condition and get an experienced rider ( like Steve Fracy) to give you some pointers. Parts for most of the old bikes are still available, and we can help in this regard, but only you can decide on which route to take. If you would like to see some videos of the old bikes in action, we can supply them free of charge, just send me an email via this website.
Happy New Year

Been dealing with Bill brown for about 20 years on & off - No problems at all with the quality - The new Trials stuff is standing up well, with no come-backs on the gear or Helmets. Great people to do business with. - Lots of this will be "under the Tree" on December 25th.

I think you've got a 2005 - rear fender on 06 was black.

Coming from the land of the great snows !! (Canada) Pull a tall gear and ride a bike with lots of torque like a 290 Beta Evo.
-
Watched this great video again yesterday - rather than look out the window at the snow - I think this is by far the best Scottish tape in my collection, and I've got a lot. Well done to the lads who made it and I look forward to getting another one in 2011.
- I have heard there are at least two Canadians entered for the 100th year event.

This is a very good topic and some sound advice from people who have been around for a long time - I especially liked the comments by jse, regarding keeping the sections wide with multi lines where possible to make the rider "Think"
We have similar problems in Canada, with many events proving to be too difficult for the lower classes. - Pre-Entry as in the UK would help, but has never really worked up here. - I've been setting up Trials for 40 years in Canada, and like to jokingly say "One day I'll get it right" - Good luck to everybody taking the time and making the effort - my planning for an event starts in my head - thinking about the loop, thinking about the sections, before I even go out on the bike. - Even after setting everything up, I often go around to double check the difficulty and ease up some sections. - I try to keep Junior sections fairly "Straight" - not too many tight turns - give them lots of room - as Ishy said - riders might say they had fun, but if they have struggled all day, they are unlikely to be back.
-
Willie - Stan will not be competing in Scotland next year - I spoke to him a short time ago, before he left for his winter vacation in Mexico, and he confirmed this. - He will however, be back to ride
our National event in Summerland next May.
-
The WEC Canadian Trials Championship locations have been finalized for 2011, with Rounds One & Two being held in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia in May, and Rounds Three & Four at a Ski Resort near Montreal(Quebec)in July.
Further details will be posted in the New Year.

Could be the float needle - sometimes they "Varnish up" & don't close properly easy fix by lapping in the needle very carefully.
-
Lots of 09's sold in Canada and NO issues at all - maybe we got the later models.
-
Try using a Non-Synthetic oil - some full Synthetics will cause clutch slip
Do you have enough free play at the clutch lever?
-
Neat stuff - reminds me of some of our Mountain rides in British Columbia
(Andy has pics of one Joss Mountain trip on the Canada section)
Thanks for posting
