Factory bikes are factory bikes whether they come from Japan or Italy - I would say if Doug wanted to ride a Beta Rev 4 - the factory would make damn sure it had enough power.
-
Eric - Steve Fracy has lots of time on an 05 Sherco 4t - I'm sure he will see your post and respond - I have an 08 Sherco 4t, and so far nearly everybody that has had a ride on it thinks it's fantastic - I also ride Beta and the six speed on the Rev 3 is great for the trails, where the Sherco 2T with only five speeds falls a bit short. - this all changes with the 5 speed Sherco 4T - it will pull you anywhere anytime in any gear. - I doubt you would get this bike in 5th on Vancouver Island tight trails.
-
Great job cman - Thanks for giving us this free show - almost like being there.
-
Hey Wayne - Just got the first one in - Can't believe the difference between this and the 05 - it starts soooo easy.
-
Thats only 'cos Steve never cleaned the Shoes on the 240 !! ( my bike now) errr ! (Just kidding) Works great now.
-
Yes very well done Pat ! - and under pressure too. - Best of luck today in the rain.
( Five Sherco's on the podium Yesterday - Wow! )
-
JLM - Is your bike leaking gas from the overflow tubes that hang below the rear of the motor ?
If it is you should have noticed that you have used a LOT of fuel on your ride.
We had one unit with the float needle not seating properly causing this problem - ran terrible at low revs because it was flooding. ( The quick fix is to take the carb off - yes this means undoing all the 13 screws and pulling the airbox back). - you can usually get the needle to "seat" by turning it around a few times in the base. holding pressure on the needle end - the alternative is to fit a new needle & seat.
-
Nice to see that old bald headed "scout" watching Pat
-
I ride both a 240 Fantic ( I have two) and a Beta Rev 3 250/08 - As others have said, you can't compare the two, but the Fantic is a Superbike when compared to some of the other old twin shocks like the SherpaT,Ossa MAR etc. - They have amazing power for a 212cc engine, and it is possible to pull 3rd gear in some of the same sections as the Beta - thats the only similarity.
-
The Joe Brown Trial, the first round of the Outlaw Series, was held at the Shawnigan Lake venue, on Vancouver Island April 12/13th. The Vintage Trial on Saturday had 11 riders on a variety of twin-shock machines, with Steve Fracy winning the "A" line on his 300 Fantic. - Kevin Couves was the surprise winner of the "B" line on an Ossa MAR - this was Kevin's first time out after a 12 year lay-off.
The Sunday event for modern bikes saw Will Duggan take the Expert Class win.

Interesting that there are 83 Beta's entered for the Scottish next month - more than any other brand
and more than any other year. - Obviously not everybody agrees with some of the comments on here.
There are are 62 Monts,47 Gassers, 36 Shercos, and34 Scorpas entered for this event, often referred to as the toughest test of man and machine.
-
Check the spokes in the rear wheel - BEFORE and AFTER your first ride - Also check the alan bolts on the fork triple crown - just make sure they are tight but do not overtighten. -
-
Hey Craig - Great pics - I echo the other comments, thanks for being our eyes & ears on the World Stage, we all wish Pat the very best of luck - we hope the "Irish Eyes are smiling on him"
-
Doug the first Trial is May 4th in Calgary - at the local MX/Trials park - next one is North near Edmonton on June 21/22 - #3 is on July 12th also near Edmonton ( Falun) - August another one near Calgary, then back North again for a Sept event at a place called Gwynne.
-
Wow ! Is right - Those bikes are beautiful.
-
Chad - buy the plastic screen holders & screws that are on the 06 bike available from Mountain MC.
-
Couldn't agree more - actually I think the saying is " Less Sound More Ground" ( it rhymes)
Even in a huge Country like Canada, the noise issue has become worse because of the four-stroke
enduro/MX bikes with after market pipes. ( This in a place where noisy Choppers are rarely pulled over by the cops) - We have all said it many times ( At least us old guys) Education is the name of the game, but young riders tend to be a difficult group to control. - I think it's ironic that two strokes, which used to be bad mouthed because of the noise, are now quieter than the so called " Environmentally friendly" four bangers.
Hats off to Beta, who have a Rev 4 that is extremely quiet. - They should all be like this.
-
Thanks for the info: Andy
-
Great Stuff Ed - Thanks for posting - I think I saw a glimpse of a young Geoff Duke in one clip
might have been the Scott - possibly 1947-48 - and of cause big Tom Ellis ( you can tell I'm an old bugger)
-
Where are you located ?? I can supply scanned info from the owner's manual
( I have two 240's) - but better you email me direct - daverhodes@shaw.ca
-
You're right about one thing Ishy - You're way off base - The whole Motorcycle market is in the toilet.
-
Steve I was at the Scottish in 1999 - On the Monday - all the rads on the Aprilia's were plugged with mud as was the new Beta which then overheated - Story is Jordi tried to cool it off by scooping water outa "Beck" - this caused it to seize. - Sure got lots of attention around the Parc Ferme. That was the year JCM had a big team ( Nigel Birkett was on one) - I will try to locate the pics I took.
-
Hi Cope - Can you email direct - with your mailing address & I'll mail you a gasket.- daverhodes@shaw.ca
