Thank you so much for posting that link - great stuff.
-
Congratulations Pat - Best Wishes for the Future from all Trials Fans in Canada.
-
Ha Ha - That indeed - got a chuckle out of the old guy.
-
I bet Mart is already digging out those old Outlaw/Beta toolbelts & Rucksacks I sent him way back when -
-
Great for Alexz - Sad for Shirty - Looks like the World Championship is being bought by Honda money. I can't see this being good for the sport long term.
-
We have the same problem in Canada - Years ago there used to be a Western Canadian Championship, It makes a lot of sense, but seems nobody wants to promote the idea.
-
Thanks Bognortrev - I have just received an email from Rob Knowles complete with a pic of all the old boys including Adrian, so thanks for the post. - Rob also saw my message.
-
Did you happen to run across a guy by the name of Adrian Brown at the event? - He is an old friend who returned to the UK, and I have lost touch with him.
-
This 4our t guy should be banned - he sounds like an idiot - Keep up the good work John Shirt.
-
At the 1983 ISDE held in Wales, I asked one of the Welsh lads about something that pertained to one of our Canadian riders - his reply "It's only cheating if you get caught - the rest of the time it's called gamesmanship"

Check to see if you have a crankcase full of fuel !! Tip the bike up-side-down with the plug out to see if fuel comes out. Don't check for spark at this point or you may end up with a bonfire.
-
Ross - There are lots of Trials riders in the Comox - Courteny area - check out the Trials Canada Web site for info - you can also get up to date info from my web-site www.outlawtrials.com
-
I think you can still get Newfren shoes from Sammy Miller Products.
-
Hey Heath - As you would figure - sods law - weather is fantastic this weekend - Thanks to you all for the birthday greetings - I have to say that I did feel pretty good the next day - in other words I was able to walk !!
Of course now Fracy has claimed "first Blood" for the Sherco 4T - I might just have to go again next year on a Beta 4T ! - And yes Gaz - I still have fond memories of riding in the Oswestry area - used to like going over the moors to Llanarmen and also Llangollen - not sure if any of that is still open to bikes. - There used to be a rocky climb going from Glyncaeriog over to Llangollen - I think they called it something like The Altabady - wrong spelling I know - but anyway, one of my first rides was over that way on a 197 James road bike. - think that was the day I decided it would be easier on a Trials bike.
-
Ha Ha - Thanks Heath - Yeah ! I know what you mean about things in the UK - I'm amazed that the do gooders still allow the Scottish. -

Hi Doug - Yes the trail was made in 1921 when the BC Forestry people went up by pack horse to build the fire look-out. However it saw little use and it was only last year that they flew a crew in by helicopter to put a new roof and windows on the small stone shack. I first went up in 2003, and was so impressed by the tough ride and the sheer beauty of the scenery, that I have now done the ride four times. At age 70 I thought this would be my last trip, but who knows? - The Mountain may call me back next year.
-
Hi Doug - Not sure of that info: - but will try to post - you can go to google & punch in Joss Mountain BC
-
The Joss Mountain ride took place last Sunday August 26th - We had a total of 15 riders, including two former three time Canadian Trials Champions - Stan Bakgaard and Steve Fracy. The Mountain is 7825ft at the Summit and unfortunately we ran into snow - This was the 4th and (maybe) last time for Outlaw Dave to make this difficult trek - it's like a long 35km section to the top. The pics (91) can be seen by clicking onto www,outlawtrials.com then gallery p2. - they are a bit jumbled up as they were taken by four different camera people - I'm the old guy with the banana and a beer at the top.
-
I have been a Beta dealer since 1993, and have only had two go in that time - one was caused by other issues and neglect. - If you're in the UK why don't you check with Heath of r2w fame.
-
We regret to announce the passing of Don Clark in Vancouver BC, Don was the owner of Mountain Motorcycles, and along with his two sons, Bob and Brett, Imported Beta and Sherco Motorcycles. He was also the Importer for Gas Gas until 2006. - Don was a keen Trials fan, and kept up to date with all aspects of the sport, he had by far the biggest and best stock of Trials parts in Canada, and maybe North America. Many well known riders had stayed at Don's home in Coquitlam, including Jordi Tarres. - He passed away Aug 15 after a short illness at the age of 74. Our condolences go to his wife Hazel and the rest of the family.
-
Terrapin - It would be helpful if we new where you lived?
-
The UK Beta site says - Left leg take out spring - fully compressed allow 140mm air gap to top of leg
Right leg Fully compressed allow 60mm air gap to top of leg
-
Congratulations to Michael Brown from across the Pond - we have been following his progress via TC.

I used to travel a bit in the North Country while working for Yamaha Canada, and some of the Lakes are like Oceans - You are right about the black flies - had to change a tire on a rental car years ago while on route to Hay River and got swarmed by the buggers - they are huge & take chunks out of you. - Yellowknife is actually quite rocky and good for limited trials riding - there used to be a couple of Trials bikes in the area. The local natives are very ingenious - heard a story of one trapper out on the frozen lake hunting, when his old single cylinder Yamaha sled quit - he took the head off and found a hole in the top of the piston (wrong plug) - miles from anywhere - he simply fired off a shot with his rifle, then pounded the empty shell case into the top of the piston - he drove it like that for some time.
-
On the positive side - I received a nice letter from Sammy last week advising of his retirement, and info: regarding the new owners. Having dealt with Sammy for over thirty years I can report that my business experiences have all been good - my orders usually arrive within one week ( to Canada) - As one of the greatest Trials riders of all time I wish him a happy retirement
