  1. I'm surprised that there has been no coverage on the RYP site ?
  2. A very Happy July 4th to all our Southern Neighbors - and warm congratulations to young Pat Smage
  3. I'm not talking about the riders or factories - I'm talking about the FIM - The promoters pay big bucks to host these events.
  4. This past weekend young Patrick Smage from the USA, did what many thought impossible. - he went to Europe and beat the top Youth riders at the Italian World Championship. In order to do this, he not only had to have the natural talent, but also the support of his family and friends, plus the Sherco Distributor. - The costs involved for a "Privateer" are immense with the rewards small in comparison - this is true no matter where the rider is located, but obviously with most Trials action happening in Europe, American or Canadian youngsters, are at a huge dis-advantage, not only because of the costs, but also because of school schedules etc. Much has been written on this subject, and many really good comments posted in the various forums - yes even by Mich Lin - But one thing that nobody seems to have mentioned, is the apparent lack of funding available to Manufacturers and Distributors by the Governing body ie: the FIM. - What I'm getting at is the way they do it in F1 - in order to get more Teams involved the incentive is that scoring any points in the constructors Championship is worth millions paid out by the FIA. - Now obviously you can't compare the revenue of F1 and World Trials, but it would seem to me that somebody is making money out of the sport, and they are not putting any back in. - Now I'm sure that there will be people jumping all over this with reasons why not - negative this & that, but why can't a system be set up whereby Teams or Distributors get funding by the FIM? After all they get their money from the riders, and there have been many posts on this web-site about governing bodies wasting money on expensive meetings at far away luxury resorts etc. With this or some similar funding, the young stars of the future may at least be able to get the help they need. - I'm sure there are other kids like Pat Smage, who would jump at the chance to compete at the top level, but are hampered by the fact their parents can't afford to spend the money on travel expenses.
  5. As you have a Scorpa Dealer just down the road in Mission - Why not check with him?
  6. I echo the comments on Tom Sagar - never met the lad, but used to ride Trials with his Grand-Dad Alan Sagar - Really nice family, used to be three brothers riding when I lived in Oswestry - Alan,Keith and Wally. Last time I saw Alan was at the 92 Scottish.
  7. The Outlaw Trial in Summerland May 19/20th - provided riders with an ideal "Trail ride" on their Trials bikes, over a 12km loop while still enjoying a good competition in the 20 sections - Ted Blow was there, and so were many Vancouver Island riders - the camp out and family focus, make this one of the Premier events of the year - this was the 21st running of the Outlaw - you guys who missed it - missed a great one.
  8. Great to see that Llanfyllin Trials are still a huge success. I see that Peter Morris from Oswestry retired on Sunday and thought that I might add a bit of trivia - Pete's Uncle, Don Morris sadly no longer with us, won the first Llanfyllin Trial back in 1956-57 - I still have the small Silver cup for 2nd place on that day. Pete's Dad Bryan was also a very good rider, and shocked the Trials World when he beat out the top factory boys by winning the Welsh Three Day back in the same era. - I recall his James had rubber bands cut from old inner tubes to help the rebound on the forks.
  9. Plug the exhaust with a rag -glove or hold your boot over the end - this is the only way to stop a bike that is stuck wide open.

    Tyz New To Me

Hey Larry send me an email via this site I'm in Western Canada & have some TYZ stuff
  11. Congrats to all the riders, but the top twenty were mostly two strokes, and I wager that Jarvis would have won if he had been on his 290. - The Four stroke thing is all political.
  12. Just to throw something else into the pot for all you guys to ponder - in 1983 a Canadian by the name of Stan Backgard went over and finished 13th ! - No support at all - he just did it ! ( Ok he did know John Lampkin)
  13. According to the Provisional Results Jarvis got third on the all new revamped Sherco 4T and Jordi Pascuet got fourth on the all new Beta 4T - Jarvis lost the tie break for second.
  14. That looks like Nigel Birkett - maybe he just saw Joe Baker lose a "5"??
  15. What pilot jet are you running? could be too small
  16. Never did ride the Terra Nova (BC) - although I was asked quite a few times - the trip from Alberta was always too long or expensive - or maybe the horror stories got to me?? Interesting to hear the Eastern event is 50 yrs old - I find it hard to believe that my Outlaw Two Day Trial ( The other important event in May) - will turn 21 in a couple of weeks. - Lots of Vintage fun at this one.
  17. Tonights the night - "Go Cannucks GO -"and if you don't win you KNOW where you can go.
  18. Forget about the wonder cures - Just drink lots of beer ( your choice) At least it helps you forget the aches & pains.
  19. I always check the Scottish every day for the latest info. - Will be watching to see how the boys Stateside do, plus our lone Canadian entrant Guy Smeeth. - Too bad Steve Saunders has had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury - I think he could have been right up there on the new Beta 4T.

    Beta Went Pop

Sounds like the fan module has gone - are you sure you hooked everything up right after the rebuild?
  21. Joostu - The long trail type event was the thing that first attracted me to Trials back in 1955 - my first event was 70 plus miles long ( Wales) - I was out yesterday plotting & flagging some of the loop for the upcoming Outlaw Trial on May 19/20. - You will enjoy this ride as the loop is quite long ( by modern day standards) and very scenic. - We expect a large entry with a lot of people camping out - great social weekend.
  22. Taff - Things have been REALLY quiet from the West Coast today - Could it be that Fracy has walked off into the Pacific - calling " Linden where are you Trevor"???? Helloooooo !!!!!!!
  23. After watching the first part of last night's game - I decided to put in a DVD of the 2006 Scottish not nearly so painful.
  24. Statistics will tell you that at least in Canada - only about 30% of Trials bike owners ever enter a Trials competition, - most bikes are used for trail riding, or just playing at trials techniques. I'm not sure why this is, but it could be because many events are seen as being too difficult. We have tried to encourage new riders through Fun Days, with no pressure etc, but many people still prefer to just ride in the Mountains or on their own acreage etc. - I think that you guys in the Comox area have a good set up, meeting every Sunday for a ride - You may want to take the next step and form your own club - nothing elaborate, just a way to organize some junior type events & take it from there.
  25. So here I was sitting in the backyard - in my shorts - also into a cool one , and I suddenly thought about poor old Taff in Alberta - What a shame here we are, flowers blooming, grass is green and we are out riding every Sunday, but only 9hrs away, Taff will be using 4wd just to get home on the Highway. Now there is that saying in Calgary, that you only have to wait an hour for the weather to change, but the poor sods in Edmonton have had winter since last October. - No wonder all the houses in the OK Valley are being bought up by Albertans. - Did I mention I was also having a beer??
