  3. For people wishing to see a pic or two of big Gerry - you can click onto www.outlawtrials.com - he is on the 2006 Beta Album - The guy with the White Helmet.
  4. Hey Gerry - Just back from another great ride at Bear Creek - NO SNOW - we had another happy 2006 Beta 270 rider along today plus his brother on a 2001 What a hoot - those things get Sooooo much traction - it's almost like cheating! Try to get down for another ride - I think we will be at Salmon Arm next Sunday. (PS Did you see that Toni Bou smoked the guys at Barcelona on the Factory Beta)
  5. I must say that as "A real old bugger" the comments made on this topic are quite amusing - Lane V Ishy - what a contest - I think you guys have way too much time on your hands - Having said that, you both make very good points about the state of Trials - Then and Now - The only thing missing is that World Trials NOW are all Profesional - Totally different from 1975 when I put on a World Round - The Modern Day Indoor Trial is more of a circus and SHOULD really appeal to American spectators who like to sit in the stands and watch a sport in comfort. - The Old Trials were all about endurance and reliablity - Times have changed and I don't think you can compare one generation to another - great riders are just that "Great" - Living in the past too much is only for fools - the History books say it all. - Martin has a a good handle on the sport and while Yes he is very modest - ( see the clip on TC) - Will there ever be another US World Champ - not likely - but that shouldn't stop people like Lane Trying to push the sport in the right direction - In my book anybody that does Anything to help Trials should be applauded not criticised - er ! However Lane - Do you ever proof read your posts? - Dunlap???? Keep it up boys - the year is young.
  6. Send me an email at - daverhodes@shaw.ca - tell me where you are and I may be able to help - I am located in Vernon BC

Hey Marky if I were you I would start wearing a cup 'cos Malc might just zip over & cut YOUR Bolx off
  9. Hey lane - Interesting to read your comments on why the Japanese invasion of the USA Trials Market didn't work - In actual fact, it was the wrong information and market projections given by the USA Distributors, that caused the Japanese to re-think strategy - Yamaha USA had thousands of TY 250's left at the end of 1974, so did not want to order any units for 1975 - It had little to do with two bikes per crate. - As any Motorcycle retailer will tell you one bike sitting by itself will not sell -put three or four in a row and the model gets sales action. However the crunch with the big corporations getting involved in the 70's was they pushed Trials bikes on dealers that knew bugger all about them - In Canada we had a selective market and realistic numbers so that at the end of the year the inventary was clean - And guess where most of those old 74 TY 250's ended up ? - In Canada.
  10. Heath - Thats a great video clip - Well done - keep them coming
  11. Thats neat stuff from the old days r2 - all thats needed is Graham Walker shouting "Lean the other way young lady"
  12. Happy New Year to you Slapshot - not that I'm a Maple Leafs fan you know - Vancouver Cannucks my man - all the best for 2006
  13. Won't be a problem short term - Are you really having a Trial on Tuesday? Happy New Year ( You should be sober by Tuesday eh ??)
  14. Happy Birthday John - Unfortunately I remember most of the old pictures I'm sure it will be a "Long" night in Haggisland
  15. Don - I agree with you on the chain lube thing - We sell a Product called Opti-Pro which is manufactured in Canada, This also acts to dispell water and leaves an oil base to lube the chain and protect it from rust plus we use it for spraying on spoke nipples after washing the bike to stop any rust & breakage problem - it is available at most chainsaw dealers in the USA and Motorcycle Dealers in Canada.
  16. Paul - First I've heard of this and as you know we've sold lots - could maybe caused by running your chain too tight ! - The solutions listed by other folk work fine.
  17. Scorpa - The best riders will win no matter what rules are used I think the point of this thread is to make sure the rest of the entry go home with a smile. -
  18. Wow ! I have just waded through the past 7 pages - ( had my Wellies on with some of Lane's posts) However I think it has been the most thought provoking thread for quite a while. Being an old fart I can relate to what most have said about the sport both sides of the pond, but this topic could go on forever - unlike other threads on TC you don't see any comments by youngsters! - Don't the kids Stateside, get on the computer, or is it just the old guys who rattle on about past glories? - Not that I'm taking cheap shots at anybody - there have been some very good points mentioned by older riders who still have a lot to offer, but has anybody ever asked the kids what THEY think - It is my view that there are too many Hockey parents out there and burned out teenagers are the result. Sure, money - the right events - the rules etc all play a part but the desire has to come from the young riders. AND if they are not having Fun thats the end of it ( By the way I bought my son five new motorcycles before he was 15 - he then got blinded in one eye while competing in a Cross Country Race - got filled in by mud while passing a guy & pulled his goggles down - got nailed with a rock) Back in 1987 I put on a Canadian National ( one of many) and was surprised to learn last minute that a bunch of kids were coming from Vancouver Island - The course was all set up so I had to run around on the morning of the event marking out some youth sections - I then drafted one of my bad tempered buddies into going around to check them - there were seven riders aged from five to nine ( if my memory serves me right) Barry ( my buddy) put up with all the parents - picked the kids up brushed them off told them to stop whining & get on with it - As I recall one of those kids was Ryon Bell. I know I've deviated a bit from the original topic but it just goes to show what can happen when enthusiastic people encourage enthusiastic kids.
  19. I aggree with Ishy - too much talk about riders and not enough about training CLerk of Course.
  20. I guess the funny thing about the open crate thing was that the Japanese were trying to keep everything so secret about this bike - not sure if Mick ever told then the story. It certainly wasn't "cheap" to build the one off bike. - Sorry to hear about Willie - my condolences to all the family.
  21. Hey John - Another story on Mick's Mono - when he came to ride our World Round inear Calgary in 1975 - we had his bike delivered to the local dealer - Walt Healy MC ( quite a famous guy in Canada- sadly no longer with us) - Before the bike was put on the plane, Mick left the top of the crate just resting on the top - not nailed down at all so that customs could check it - he had his riding gear & everything in the crate alongside the Yam - and that is exactly how it arrived open for all to see - he got a big laugh out of that - he had a bad day at that event finishing 11th but when he started to moan about it Jill told him it was his own fault and that he had not been practicing enough - We later went for dinner at the top of the Calgary Tower ( Malcolm Rathmell joined us) & after a few drinks Mick was back to his old self cracking jokes.
  22. Hi Alan - The 96 Techno uses the Mikuni and this has the air screw - stock is one & three quarters out. Stock main jet is 150 pilot 30 - We rarely get freezing problems in Canada but the gas at the pump does have methyl hydrate added to avoid this. - I think you have given him the right info re: cleaning the carb etc - check that somebody hasn't leaned out the pilot ( if it runs better with the air screw in it sounds lean) - be careful using any gas line anti-freeze etc - this stuff is bad news for two strokes. Enjoy your trip & Merry Christmas
  23. You have to admire Mick for still making money from trials - Martin Lampkin once told me that he didn't know how Mick had managed to get through life without working ! While everybody is moaning about the future of the sport etc, Mick just enjoys himself and is so enthusiastic ( plus he has Jill) he manages to encourage riders half his age. AND Don't forget he could probably still hang a licking to many a younger rider (on a modern bike) with his trusty James.( Like he says it's all about preparation nothing "trick") I remember the days when Castrol used Sammy's picture on their Two stroke oil - - not sure if it helped sales but good luck to Mick and Jordie with their latest endeaver.
  24. Great Pictures - What camera do you use ???
  25. Thats pretty funny R2 - not quite accurate but there has been some old fashioned smuggling done over the past few years especially with GG - Fortunately for me ( As a dealer) I'm able to combat this with my good humour and devilish charm !!!!!! To answer your question Paul I would guess at about 140 per annum all brands. - However the market has been pretty flat for the past couple of years and it's all your fault !!
