  1. I cut the original brackets off mine which revealed a hole through the frame. I used this as the centre point for the mounting bracket of the new foot rest - I bolted and weleded new brackets on using this hole for the bolt to go through. (if you look behind existing hangers you can see this hole) Then fitted Mont 315 footrests as I had spares. I think aprox 1 " down and 1" back. Not sure if this is optimum but felt lots better and was easist option You can buy footrests that give same effect that use existing factory mounts
  2. On a similar theme I was advised to run a new piston and rings in using a lower quality mineral 2 stroke oil as moden synthetic 2 stroke oil is so good no break in of piston to bore can take place effectively.
  3. Put some BSA stickers on a 4rt - same difference only a lot cheaper
  4. 09 definately very smooth. I have Sainz map in my 05 which makes it soft off the bottom end but compared to an 09 feels very sharp.
  5. The 05 is ok but needs several mods to get the best out of it Larger master Cyl on clutch -
  6. Unless the observer calls in the riders in order Mr Bou will probably still hang around and then ride last few section flat out!!! I assume only timed back in at end of lap. Maybe he can't walk the section and will only have 60 secs in the section so will probaly sit under a brolley out of sight with big coat on until he is ready to ride - cracking spectator viewing. Watching the top boys plan their lines was/is part of the interest in watching the top boys perform.
  7. Modern bike, modern tyres, normal body weight -4psi rear - 5.5 psi front. Drop rear for very soft and muddy going or if riding easier routes. Check pressures if change in temps - ie cold night - sunny morning. Tyres can gain 1 psi easily in theses conditiions. Don't park bike in the sun before checking - black tyres absorb a lot of heat energy if left in the sun.
  8. "Finished trial put bike back on trailer had cup of tea and bar of chocolate. watched several other folk limp back in with broken bikes (non of which were 4RTs). went home washed bike had tea and went out for half a gallon of beer." Bl---dy Wuss Got to have a gallon of beer at least. Ps maybe you need to try a technical request on how to attached a tax disc to 4rt
  9. Have to admit Woody some conditions they really do struggle - too much torgue at very low revs I belive. But for maybe 4 or 5 section per year that dont suit I ride hundreds that benefit from the suspension and torque of the 4rt motor and given half a chance at a blast across a bit of moor or open ground makes you a real hooligan as the speed and handling are a real blast. I found you have to leave the clutch alone to get grip, roll on the power then be as aggresive as you like with the throttle and it will grip and drive, just keep your weight over the back end to keep it gripping.
  10. If you've ridden a 4rt once and not liked it then you have no right to comment here - fact!!!. If you've owned one for 6 months or more and don't like it or had had bad experience then carry on adding to this post. Having ridden Monts relatively successful over the last 10 years plus, the 4rt is a different beast and you need to own one to make any valid comment. They are maybe not the best to hop and flick but given a proper trial they are still very good - best bike i have ridden in SSDT. Flattered my ability!!!!. Trouble is lots of people think they are Raga or Dabil and buy world champ class bikes when they are club champ riders at best - I think the demands are like chalk and cheese. John Lampkin has said the 200cc Beta is probably a superb clubman bike but probably sells few -the 4rt I thinks is a bit like this. Set it up right, learn to ride it and you have a very competitive reliable trials bike - just not fashionable But I could be bias
  11. As Munch and Addict said. Riding it still makes me smile more than any other bike I've owned
  12. Scores look sensible and congrats to Jake for his maiden A class win
  13. X11 - maybe thats the diffrence. Have heard Dunlops are a pig
  14. Just put wheel on the ground -preferably somewhere solid - get your heel right into the bead and hop up and down. Change tyres every weekend and never a problem. Don't know if Mont wheels are easier
  15. I use my heel - well portable and cheap!!!
  16. Having ridden Wye Valley in the 90's and now having a go at the Normandale series seems a lot of folk like a traditional trial run under no stop rules and catering for good club men on modern and good boys on twin sock. air cooled mono and pre 65. Last weeks Normadales had 100 plus both days. What date have you in mind for this year as fancy a trip back down memory lane
  17. Don't know the stats but guess the "guest" riders were local riders who knew how good things where going to be or friends or associates of those riding and hence sharing some of the travel costs. I was totally amazed that no queuing occurred either day with the quantity of riders all having a superb weekend. I finished well in time both days much to my surprise. Again well done to all involved and whoever booked the weather let me have your phone number.
  18. How come in the days of being green and eco friedly when even thinking of mixing your two stroke oil will kill off half of antartic can junk mail still be allowed. What must the costs be in printing, transporting and then collecting in refuse or recycling for nobody to read. About time they taxed every bit of junk or unrequested mail PS Councils are the worst - had 2 full size A4 enevolopes posted last week with glossy A4 glossy blurb in English and Welsh saying how good they where. One addresed to me and one to the missus (in case we wouldn't let each other read it). Went straight in the bin anyway.
  19. Home help and meals on wheels is more appropriate dabster
  20. Totally agree -cracking weekend. Thanks to involved

    4rt Gearing

I run 10 / 41 but that is higher than most - but I like a tall first gear. Have ridden ones with 9 front and they seems to make the bike way to slow and forces you to use 2nd rather than 1st. 10 43 is probably a good compromise as it slows 1st down enough not to to worry about using the clutch all the time on the naggery bits

    Sandifords?

Sandifords always close on a tuesday Had E mail of Caroline ref bits I wanted and all seems as normal.
  23. "Couple of sections where a little tight" Only ridden in 2 Normadales so still not sure what to expect regarding severity of rules etc and never like to be critical. I guess this weekend will give me a good bench mark of what is good
  24. http://www.camborneandredruthmotorclub.co.uk/index.php Cant fault any trial where the results are home before me. Couple of sections where a little tight but personally enjoyed it
  25. Look in manual or download pages from one of the threads on here. Tells you what to check with a multimeter and go from there. Look for people rewinding stators in TMX or on the web - Ive used somebody in the west county a few years ago. Good luck
