Thanks sirhc, I havn't fitted it yet but I will check before I do. I did recieve the CDI unit as well so I would say it is the right one (great support from the Hell Team) What plug are you running in yours? also any other problems to look out for? I am very happy with the bike overall, just like its predecessor it is very underated.

Hi RJ, Glad to see the bikes running OK, mine has run great since new, saying that it sometimes can take a few kicks to start when hot. I believe this may be down to the stator giving a weak spark, Paul Arnott (HellTeam) has sent me a new one on warranty so that should cure it. With your lack of fuel problem mine had a kinked fuel line under the tank when purchased this took a bit of working out as it would run fine then cut out 'usually in a section' i shortened the hose and that cured the problem. With your fuel tap did it have a reserve? mine is either on or off no reserve.

Thanks Woody, much appreciated

Thanks for the replys guys however I distinctly remember seeing a bracket and footrest kit that bolts strait on to the original footrest locating point and mpoves the footrests down and rearward with no welding involved.

Hi, I remember seeing on this forum some bolt on footrests that lower the peg position for the TLR but I can't for the life of me find the post now! Can some one please point me in the right direction, I believe they were sold through TY Offroad, however I can't find a link to that site that works. Any ideas? I don't really want to cut and weld the TLR if I don't have to.

Excellent choice, i've had a couple myself, the Birkett mod to the muffler makes a biggest difference by removing two of the restrictors. Also upgrade to the lastest bashplate if it hasn't got one on it already.

Have a try on a Scorpa SR, back end on par with a Beta with a reliable proven sherco engine. All the new crop of machines have engines, brakes and suspensions that 99% of us would never be able to fully utilise so go with your heart!
-
Ah Nigel you are always so negative, relax! chill! breath it away! As I said in my original post Beta/Sherco and Gassers make up 95% of the 80 or so bikes here so even if you knocked a $A1000 off the price the majority of riders would still go with the flow and what they know regardless of price. Xispa had a go at the price game and failed miserably, saying that the product needed a lot more work which let it down unlike the Scorpa which is as good a machine as all the latest crop. All I know is when our local Beta and Sherco dealers pulls into the paddock a crowd quickly gathers to replace the bits that snapped off at the last trial, yup I know I now have a sherco motor but at least I will only have to replace half the broken bits At the end of the day the Scorpa ticks all the right boxes for me, no pointless mapping, no computers, no fuel injection and no crazy engine that points the wrong way, give me something I can fix myself anyday!

I actually got quite a bit off the list price to promote the bike in Western Australia but would of paid the list price regardless. All the current machines have similar running gear and most have excellent reviews with little or no bad points reported by the press therefore it comes down to brand loyalty and how one bike feels against another. I have tested all the current crop of machines and the Scorpa works for me, will it improve my riding ability I very much doubt it. Saying that it does feel more stable and lighter than my SY so only time will tell.

Have just had my first trial on my new 2011 280 Scorpa: Faults: Paint work on the tank is really naff! and is already peeling around the screw holes. Stickers have been put on by someone with 10 minutes remaining on his shift. Bike stalled numerous times until I discovered the fuel line was twisted under the tank. Spark plug cap is a pain to get back on, not alot of room. Quality of the front mudguard is very poor, very dull plastic. Good points: Excellent handling, very predictable. Motor is a dream, last of the old sherco motors so hopefully all the problems should be ironed out. Suspension is spot on strait from the crate. I have owned 7 scorpa's and still have a SY250 aniversary model, this new beast is really an improvment in the handling and motor department but the quality of the paint work and graphics does let it down. Having the only one in western australia everyone wanted a ride and apart from the quality of the paint work and graphics the response was 100% positive, a lot better than the first OSSA which is still yet to sell here in WA. Will anyone else buy one here? probably not! Beta/Sherco and Gassers make up 95% of the 80 or so bikes here which is a shame.

Great to see Toms getting into the a real Motorcycle sport. I presume the spanner on the right in the garage is for the Scorpa and all the other tools are for maintaining the BETA

I've had three of these little beauties, a a 143 longride, 143 racing and a 163 (SY 200)the racing models are worth the extra $$$$$. A very capable bike in the lower grades however because of the lower ground clearence you do need to be a fairly capable rider to ride with the big boys. In the lower grades you will loose fewer points than the average joe on his new 290 as they are a lot more forgiving. For riding in the higher grades the bike is ideal for improving your skill level as you don't have the engine power to tackle the bigger stuff you have to make up for it by improving your technique. For maintainance you clean the air filter change the oil and ????? thats about it, not even a oil filter to change. A fantastic bike and great fun especially when they call out the results and you realise you have knocked the 250's and 290's off their perch

......Everybody forgot the most important thing........ ......improved radiator holding in device....... Elastic band!

Are seals available for a TLR250 Showa rear shock (KR9CR3)? i've pulled a set apart and if possible want to make them oil tight again. How much oil do they take? Whats the recommendations on competetive new rear shockies. One last question my TLR has some clutch shudder, I have an old Honda maintainance sheet that recommends changing them for CB350 plates is this a common fix or has times moved on? Nether had these problems restoring my TY175

Looking at your technique I see almost nil movement in your legs. Approach the rock and divide your your technique into two steps. Step one: small wheelie 80-90% up the base of the rock and compress legs. Step two: blip throttle whilst extending legs (can dump the clutch one perfected) count down the steps in your head "one and two" ones the wheelie twos the jump (extension and blip) Go practice grasshopper, try a smaller rock or log if perfected the rear wheel will hardly hit the obstical.
