  1. Ryan Hughes is a student at the same institute I study at, I know he's Supercross but theirs a crossover to trials so I thought some of you who're interested in training may be interested in this article about Ryan and my mentor Paul. Dirt Rider article about Ryan Hughes training facility Paints a pretty good picture of how we should all be training not just elite athletes.
  2. So do I mate, such a simple drop in a section at the Chris Carter Novagar round but I think I'd maybe done a little damage a few weeks before in Centre round so when I heard a crack I knew what it was. Love the old bold quote though, I'll be using that one Seen some good research papers on it, Ultra sound is typically used by UK Physio's despite their not being much evidence of its effectiveness. Won't do a think for me as I know its not good but the placebo effect works on others so it does have some uses. My scanar machine works on electrical activity in the muscle and gives you a reading. You can then work on the worst (lowest) areas. In the summer my knee gave a reading of 11 at the impact site and I've used it to speed up recovery. For once I am listening to others advice and the same stuff I'd tell other people, just keeping my fingers crossed for some positives!! Bit gutting as I'd already been considering this may be my final SSDT due to needing to protect my knee now. Doc's told me if my new brace isn't working the next stage is partial knee replacements and I'm not keen on that idea so if it has to be just club trials then thats what I'll be doing
  3. Bubblewrap might be handy though I have a slightly dulled sensation to pain so can quite easily smash myself up and not realise till later...hence the wrist being so bad. Had a result with the cast, ordered a cheaper version for post op and they've accidently sent the expensive one. Bonus
  4. Cheers mate, I'll try the comfry oil, hadn't thought of that. Am avoiding dairy as theirs not a great deal in it once its been pasturised and am getting calcium mainly from bone broths (chicken soup cooked with the bones in to get extra minerals, calcium etc) green leafy veg, salmon and the odd bit of raw dairy when I can get it. Have got a Scanar machine to accelerate bone growth so I should heal pretty quick, only the bone scan will tell though I guess. They're pretty sick of my 'dangerous sport' at Uni and have already said I need to choose Physio or Bike.....easy question really.
  5. Ah right. Yeah I know all the problems with Avascular Necrosis, if they can do the op called a percutaneous fixation it'll drastically reduce my healing time and allow me full use pretty soon. My aim and reason for wanting others advice is that I've never treated a patient whose gone this route so I want to know of anyone whose used any of the braces or healed quicker than expected. I'm not taking this route to get back riding (although I will) but to enable me to return to my Physio degree sooner (need my thumb). I had to suspend my studies for a year due to my knee op last september and I don't fancy this wrist dragging into another year and having the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy deciding I'm not fit enough to work with patients again. As much as I don't mind doing hours in a Royal Mail sorting office as it pays some bills I can't face another year waiting to qualify.
  6. So you'd advise a lower route? I can't currently hold a fork never mind a handlebar. I'm not missing out on Scotland unless I really have to so I need something to help me stabilise it. Am well aware of the complications but I think I can manage it well enough if I get it pinned ASAP and then get 3 weeks rest. It was your section at the Centre round where I first hurt it as well...heard a crack on that drop on my 3rd lap.
  7. Anyone used anything they've found particularly good to either speed up healing or protect it post healing? Am in my 3rd NHS cast so far and I only broke it on Sat. Am considering and Aircast Wrist Cast Aircast Link but haven't used them before and wondered if anyone found it better. I keep working my cast loose and have a fair bit of thumb movement so its not helping the healing process much. The aircast has a pump option which should keep it fixed. I'm also looking at an Allsports Dynamic Wrist Brace to get me back riding in time for the Scottish AllSports Site and limit the damage so I can continue rehabbing it after. It comes with pins to lock wrist extension which is what did my initial damage. If anyones used one or knows anyone who has I'd appreciate your feedback on how easy it was to ride in and if it helped before I spend my cash. Cheers
  8. Theirs more to learn with trials but you'll be far more in control than just blasting up and down a field. My friend started last year on an old bike of mine and became competent pretty quickly. I'd imagine you'd get bored pretty quickly just riding a field bike especially if you have a love of trials.
  9. Not sure about the round at the weekend but for the previous 2 I was made aware that I'd only be allowed to ride if I wasn't taking someone's place.
  10. I rode as a guest in the previous 2 rounds to look after my dad. I've got no interest in riding the series but at 63 and having never done the Normandale series before he was a little apprehensive about traveling so far on his own (plus he picked me up enough as a kid). If I hadn't been riding elsewhere this weekend I'd of gone to the Normandale ones this weekend and if allowed would of rode round to keep an eye on him. I know he found Saturday particularly hard and wished I'd been there to help him out and so did my mum when he finally made it back to the van. Maybe some of the guests were dong similar??
  11. I can take a turn looking after it, I'll do the first week in May if that helps you out..
  12. A better route would be strengthening the ankles, the more supported the ankle the greater the risk the force is translated to the knee. When ski boots became rigid plastic rather than soft boots knee injuries rocketed. That said I loved the comfort of my old alpinestars just wasn't keen when after starting with them in late Jan I'd worn massive holes in the sides by SSDT time. Also found they spread quite a lot as well and I ended up having to wear 2 pairs of sock (either that or my feet shrank from all the water that leaked in the holes). Had Gaerne last year and they lasted the whole year, got a new pair for this year but the others will still be good for a spare pair. Sure it depends on riding style, I must grip the bike badly when moving about as my frame guards also take a battering. My mates Alipinestars have lasted him a few years, combination of less riding and less moving the bike about I guess. I seem to remember Dibs & maybe Bou wearing a slightly different model a few years back (normal sole) and had hoped they'd bring them out with maybe a slightly tougher leather.
  13. Always flatly refused the idea of a flywheel weight on either my 300 Raga or any of my 280's. I'm now riding a 125 but I occasionally ride my dads 250 and my old 280 which a friend bought. We fitted a flywheel weight to make it a little more controllable for him. I can honestly say I wish I'd had one fitted when I rode bigger bikes. I feel more in control with the flywheel weight on the 280 than I do on the standard 250. When I finally go back on a bigger bike (a 250 ) I'll definitely be considering one.
  14. Am gutted wished I'd not rushed now. No offense mate as you might be able to keep me awake. I'm working in Liverpool all night and was really happy as I thought for once I'd managed to get in early and get a late number.
  15. Been watching the entries come in and now its been swapped to a PDF file with final details etc. Am I right in thinking its not first to enter last out like normal and that we're going out in the order we entered?
  16. I can email them you if you send me and address
  17. Didn't think we'd make it down due to the snow or if it'd even be on but I don't it could of been a better day. Great trial and well organised as usual
  18. Did mine as well, gave it him at a trial and picked it up mid week. Nice guy as well.
  19. Pidcocks in Derby Pidcocks Honda I'd imagine its all Honda dealers, just happened to notice their advert on the back page of the East Midlands Centre handbook.
  20. Just received my center handbook and noticed an advert on the back for Montesa at the local Honda dealership.
  21. I had an 07 Raga and grip was amazing. 3rd gear would pull nicely in really muddy sections and occasionally 4th. I was thinking on sunday how much I missed it with all these icy trials.
  22. Production will start last week in February or first week in March with the SR280R 2T followed by SR125R 2T Trial models
  23. I felt like I was going backwards on a 125 on the road last year, especially when a Mont overtook flat out. Coped pretty well across the moors though.
  24. Your getting mixed up mate, I think its Scotland, 6 days and May that you mean
  25. Yeah they're a friendly lot. Its an AMCA trial and should be good. May be set out easyish but you can always have a practice afterwards. May see you there.
