  1. Hi Addict, the oil level is about halfway up the sight glass, so assume its OK? Have done one trail and about 2-3 hours practice so ready for its first oil change, any advice on best oil to put in it at change? Spudsdad, thanks that's what i thought (had hoped), will see if I can do a side by side comparison with other evo's at our next trial, there was a couple of evo's at Fish Hill (Evesham MCC trial) last weekend but didn't think to ask if we could compare them for noise, was first time out on the bike and had only got it the day before! My only concern was that I had only just sold my son's sherco 125 as it had an annoying engine rattle which wouldn't go away, - new clutch, basket, centre, mains, small end, new piston etc but still loud rattle so the bike went, now we spend

Hi all, picked up my sons new 2010 Beta evo 125 last saturday, fantastic bike, wish I had bought one for myself, he can ride my Sherco 250 and I will ride his Evo, so smooth. loads of bottom end grunt, soft yet performs but....... there is a gearbox / clutch rattle. Goes when the clutch is pulled in but is pretty noisy when the clutch is out on tickover. I know the gassers rattle but hadn't realised the Evo's do. In contrast my Sherco is as quiet as a mouse. Is this normal, should I take it back or should I not worry they all do it? Advice and experience gratefully received, even my son has started worrying about it - he asks is it normal dad? If it is a problem want it sorted now when it is only a week old Thanks John

    Cutting Out

    Bit left field but I had the same problem on my 04 SY 250 and stripped the carb etc, etc (and it was a bugger as really tight in there) and after all this it was my spark plug cap! When I replaced the cap all was fine. What had happened was that with the tight space up under the tank, the cap regularly get covered in mud and crap which doesn't get removed unless you take tank off when cleaning the bike (as you can't get at the plug cap) this then causes shorting which knackers the cap. I also removed the outer HT sleeve as this was also full of crap inbetween the sleeve and the HT lead. Worth a try. Good luck
  6. Tombo46, If you do need to weld it and don't personally know anyone in Sheffield area, phone up the guys at TWI (The Welding Institute) - Cambridge area I think, but google it and they will put you in touch with a (local) welder who has the right code's for this type of welding - good luck
  7. mine wasn't from BVM or appleyard (even though BVM are my local dealer they couldn't get a 250) had to travel to the South East to Gordon Farley (top service by the way). As far as I know BVM aren't selling "special's" have spoken to Paul (principal) when looking at the 290's and am buying a new bike for my son from BVM, they are an excellent dealer (hence why they sell more trials than anyone esle in the UK). Interested as to when they dropped the alloy stand as at a trail last week one of the other riders had a late '08 250 which he had put 09 graphics on, this had the alloy stand.
