  1. Yeah totally agree. I had a pair of jitsie gloves which looked good but split! I now use troy lee, 661 or race face now. they're cheaper, better designed for riding in mind. hebo and jitsie are fine if your a pro riding indoor, but when your out in the cold on a moorside wheres the terry cloth to wipe your nose!!!!! also use a fox mtb jacket and it has taken some right scrapes but still keeps going!

    Main Bearings Gone

Iv got mine back together now. I didnt have to heat anything up though. It was easier than I thought it was going to be, although I probably wont find out til I give it a proper ride. I found though that plug looked quite black. So not sure if im running the right fuel oil mix at 1.5% (75ml oil to 5ltr fuel) or is the fuel air ratio (carb settings) right? Is there a procedure to setting up the carb like the keihn? I totally agree with chewy on the gaskets. For what the gaskets are,

i was gonna try that chewy, a bit of silicon around the flywheel cover and cable gland to try and keep crud etc out

    Main Bearings Gone

The biggest trouble i found chewy was splitting the casing. I used a nylon drift I made up at work and had to use alot of patience as the locating dowls (spelling?) were holding on quite tight. The bearings were easy enough to fit. It just took abit more patience putting the casing back together. Although I didnt bother with a new gasket kit, I just got a new crankcase gasket and new crank seals. I personally didnt think the seals looked bad bought thought that while im this far I might as well just use belt and braces! But like you mentioned, the mains bearings does seem to be a common issue on beta's. I'm not really sure how this can be overcome as a mod, I just take the system of not letting it take a swim and run the engine up after washing it.

    Main Bearings Gone

Iv just got my bearings out and they were open race, and as far as Im aware they were factory fitted. I was suprised that they were some japanese brand, which I would have thought to be durable. Anyway got some SKF's for

    Main Bearings Gone

Without trying to imitate funny sounds using it letters, the best way to describe it like a scraping noise that "sped & slowed" with the engine. started off intermitant then eventually constant. Then a couple of other guys (like mentioned in one of the earlier replies) confirmed it by saying the very same had happened to him.

I heard about a the factory fitting some cheaper crank bearings, but wasn't sure if that was just hear say. Also enquired at BSL and a set of SKF's, which are a good brand, are

    Black Barrel

where can you get it done?????

    Main Bearings Gone

Thats exactly what i thought!!!! I spoke to JL's and they stated that because of the item involved they could not tell if its a manufacturing defect or rider caused (i.e. dunked in water). So I said fair enough..... I had spoke to a guy who had an 08 beta, and exactly the same had happened to him after a couple of months! Out of interest on the bearings themselves, why would they be double sealed, 'zz' ??? as apposed to just 'z'. There is a BSL supplier that the company I work for has an account with so I'd imagine NSK or SKF would be good enough for this application?

    Main Bearings Gone

Alright chaps, The main bearing has gone on my 08 rev3 250. I rang lampkins and they have said that the bearing is a special. Has anyone got the bearing reference number and can i get one off the shelf from a bearing supplier? I seem to remember that I could on my 04 sherco. I know this sounds tight but I thought
  11. i suppose after giving it more thought, if you compared it to the mountainbike market, where you can pick up a santa cruz frame for over
  12. great minds think a like there. you just got your post in a few mins before me!!!
  13. like you say, is it that the current production models cant really be improved unless you can start with new innovations like beta with there new beam design for example. Or if you look at mountain bikes, the current frames tend to have a fluid formed design at the head tube or virtual pivot points - or even orange bikes have a besboke frame design like on their patriot frame. Can you really do anything that would give a noticable difference on a tubular design like the gasser? other than making it from titanium so its uber light??
  14. would be cool to find some of those rock trials parks that he was playing on.

has anyone ever stuck their keihn carb in a steam cleaner? I havent got a compressor at home but do have an industrial steamer at work. I thought it might clean it really well but thought i should double check that it wont damage owt.

    No Spark

what a topic!!! everydays a school day!!! just askin about my beta electrics and now iv been schooled in the A-10's engine design flaws!!!! brilliant bit of info for the pub!!!

    No Spark

I also bought a yam style kill switch and used the ground point behind the cdi, after agreeing with dan that the fork yolk was not suitable. Its hard to believe that something so simple is not picked up by the manufacturers. And even something that is as simple as 2 stroke wiring circuit is dogged with problems. I was suprised that when fitting the new stator coil that the engine case obstructed the plastic gland from the coil, so it struggled running under the plate. therefore putting stress on the joints. Even the engine kill switches are dubious. dont they test everything when designing a new model???? or is it just me?

    No Spark

well i spoke to lampkins. they were really helpful. they also suggested that it was possibly that stator & sent one as a warranty replacement. now after fitting, the bike fired up!!! yeeha!!!

    No Spark

After about 2 hours riding today, I tried to start my bike (2008 250 rev3) & it wouldn't start. I checked for a spark at the plug and there was nothing. I tried a new plug and still nothing. I checked the engine kill switch with a multimeter and this operated ok, "making" and "breaking" fine. I checked all the connections and they seemed secure. Im not sure where to go looking now. How can i test the ignition module? Should I check anything on the ignition coil behind the flywheel? any advice is helpful guys

    Heavy Clutch

is the beta master cylinder a larger piston then? because i did wonder this. dan with regards to your clutch mod, the actual operation and feel of the clutch is bang on and really progressive. it is just the fact that the lever action is a touch heavier.
