    Heavy Clutch

just been out on my new beta today.... loved it all but the fact that the clutch seemed heavy compared to some other beta's i rode today. it made my arm ache after 3 hours. other than goin to the gym, does any one know what might be cure this? The bike is 6 mobths old with little riding and also has an ajp master cylinder instead of the beta factory fitted one. The clutch itself feels great just a tad heavy.

    Beta 270

have you looked on colin appleyards used stock list? they have a 270 that seems well priced. hardly been used to.
  3. doesn't the spacer also act as a gasket???
  4. can you give some more details on this please. I took a look at the flywheel because the chap i bought it off had retarded the timing by a couple of degrees, but I couldnt get the fly wheel off or the cross head screws out of the flywheel. I assume the cross heads coming out would let me use a flywheel tool while loosening the centre nut. Does that sound right?
  5. after loads of hunting iv finally got another bike!!! 6 month old '08 250. really like it but its my first beta, do any of you beta veterans have any recommended mods or tweeks???

    How Much?

a local dealer has an 07 250, which he claims has not got a mark on it and has hardly been used. I havent had chance to look at it yet, what is a guide line price to expect to pay for one??? What are the bikes like?? Im coming from a sherco 290. cheers gaz

    Timing Recommendations

If you can get me the size scraggy that would be great, I'v lost my thread guage! I suprised how cheap they are, I rang rathmells up and they quoted
  10. im thinkin of retarding the timing on 04 290. I know this is mainly down to rider preference, but is there joint recommended angle to retard the timing plate to? Im currently running a slow action throttle also.

    Carb Probs....still!

okey dokey then, that sounds like a plan scraggy. is there anything i need to watch out for while im doin it?
  12. dont know if any regulars remember, but i posted a problem i was having with my (04) 290. the revs were, to want of a btter word, gulping. in idle it wasnt holding a steady constant rpm. also when throttle was applied and released it was very slow to lose the revs. checked my carb and the gaskets looked battered. iv changed all the gaskets and cleaned the jets but still no great improvement. im not gonna rule out me not being able to set the idle and mix screws up properly. so....... what the best way to set the mix and idle screws up AND what other possibilities could make the bike run like this? I have also given the airbox a dam ggod clean out and tried to check the carb to cylinder inlet hose for any splits. any info is gratefully appreciated as im desperate to get back out on the bike!

    Wheels

I was thinking of taking some work their way, but now I won't even though I live about > < that far from them! Central Wheel in Coleshill are the people I was recomended to about getting wheels sorted. someone had recommended central wheel to me. I wish i had done it now. oh well you live and learn!

    Wheels

funny story... i took my wheels in to have new tyres and also the spokes nipped up. he said he had snapped some spokes and could i get some more. i siad ok, and got a whole wheels worth. he then charged me
  15. New seal kit has arrived, yet to fit. unfortunately I've been doing some long hours at work so haven't had time yet. Also found I'd bent my front rotor at bracken rocks the other weekend! I will hopefully get it fitted and tested today, if not this week. I'll keep you posted.......
  16. Will get the carb stripped down tomorrow & new gasket kit ordered. This might sound stupid but what am I telling you about the jets, when I have the carb in bits? Will let you know what condition the screens and carb vents are in. The bike is an 04 290. thanks copemech.
  17. when my bike is running idle, it revs weird. The best way to describe it, is a "chugging" effect. As if its gulping bit of petrol at a time. It does this til it eventually fades and cuts out. When the bike is given some throttle it runs fine. Although when it is given some throttle, the revs tail off slowly. Not quick and responsive. I have tried tweaking the idle screw and mixture screw, but to be honest I dont really know how to set this up properly. I have stripped the carb down, and some of the o-rings have seen better days. Any advice on what the problem could be and how to set this up properly?

    Sherco Spokes

I'd managed to snap a spoke and I rang Rathmells. Got a new spoke the next day in the post. About 50p I think. You need to be specific which side of the hub its from too. It was a little tricky to fit, due to the spoke configuration on the hub. Chances are to you will break the seal on your rim tape if you run a tubless tyre.

    Bleeding Brakes !

Nice one copemech, ill double check it. I think jitsie do cool coloured hex head banjo's. I thought the banjo tho, was what the brake hose from the cylinder to the caliper connected up with??? I'm talkin about what the reservior pipe connects into the master cylinder with? dale, Iv not seen it leaking any fluid. Because of the bubbles coming up into the reservior and this connection turning, I suspected it might have been a problem.
