  1. The U shape thing that holds the connecting link together (top right in pic)... whats the best way to get it off? Seems like i could snap it if im not careful... is there a technique to this anyone? Need to replace the rubber tensioners as they a WORN lol Jza
  2. Hey bud, I did my first trial after 4 rides. It was great fun. I rode like a numpty.. completely forgot most of what i learned... but didnt finish last and never stopped grinning. There were 2 sections i just couldnt do... both involved steep slippery slopes funnily enough... but i tried each time. If i felt i could't do it i could have just asked the marshall for a 5 and not attempted it - so id recommend the same if you face something the same. I went back to the track to practise the sections i struggled with until i could do them. That helps no end with confidence. One word of warning - dont thank the marshalls on your last lap WHILST RIDING... you tend to hit things you arent looking at and fall off over the handlebars Have fun! Jza
  3. Ah... ive been trying to use my feet the balance on the pegs - LOL Thanks for that tip ill give it a try

LOL Went and had a look at the brake lever again... seems the previous owner has "not mentioned" that the brake lever now resembles a boomerang LOL Think i'll be ordering a new one and then will try again.... thanks for advice Jza

  6. im a big lad... 6ft 2 and 18 stone... I have found i get knackered but its helping my fitness no end... wrists and knees take biggest pounding (plus the bones ive broken falling off ) Just make sure you get the pre-load wound up !!! Jza
  7. compensate using the bars not your feet?
  8. Hey Ant, Thanks for that - have seen that before and its a little too advanced for me yet e.g. to practise the hopping i need to be able to balance... which i cant do... and getting up / falling off a 4 ft tree stump wont do anything for me but break me and the bike LOL Any "beginner" stuff anyone? Jza
  9. Hey guys, I need to stop blatting around and start some sort of regime to learn new skills on my bike. I'm enjoying it now end... but dont feel im learning much other than my clutch and throttle control and how to fall off With my own sport of basketball there are different fundamental drills you can do that break down the various aspects of the game. If you learn each one the game becomes much easier... I dont have that knowledge for trials riding hence the post Do any of you have training schedules you use to break down the various techniques required to get better? Ideally i'd like to start splitting my riding into 50% fun 50% proper practise. That way i'd like to improve my riding whilst keeping it fun at the same time. Any tips would be appreciated Jza
  10. Hey Guys, I have to start this thread by saying that i havent used the rear brake that much.. apart from on the long downhills where i have time to think "i'd best use the back brake"... in other words it not "natural" for me to use it yet. Some of the guys down the club where messing about doing wicked skids to spin the bike round 180 degs... They said to bang on the back brake to lock it.. then pivot the body aroung to start the slide. I couldnt get the brake to lock at all However hard i press the pedal - there isnt the power there to lock the tyre up. No i do weigh 18 stone so maybe this has an effect? Whats going wrong? Is the fact i dont use the back brake much causing me problems with the pads - or does it sound like i need the brakes servicing? I have checked the levels - they are fine - and there enough rear pad left. There doesnt appear to be much "feel" from the back brake compared to my road bike? Any tips? Cheers! Jza

Bugger...... LOL I just tried to budge the bolt.... managed to twist the allen key i have all the way round so it now resembles a circle Any advice on what to do? I have just bought some good quality allen keys on so i can use a 3/8 wratchet... but the damn thing wont stop spinning... How do i get the damn thing out? Jza

    06 Vs 07 4rt

Go on... tell me how you quantify an exhaust as "better" LOL Can you feel the difference?
  13. Makes me laugh this whole map thing. We buy a bike that we know has bags of grunt.... so we soften the tuning.... Why not buy a 125? LOL I'd have a powerful map - then a soft map.... plus the choice to replace the map to suit what i need. Whats the point of having "limp wristed" + "really limp wristed" map ? Doesnt make sense to me. I want one map that will pull my arms from the sockets, one thats "soft" enought to use when thats not needed... then i'd get a few maps on my PC and load them as and when (im thinking a "mud map" etc etc) Arent we in danger of de-tuning the 4RT to the point of losing one of its best features..???? If you dont want the power why buy a monty? Not trying to be devils advocate just voicing an opinion... Jza
  14. Cheers mate - good advice thanks! I ride like a wuss so i'll keep an eye on the oil as you suggest Jza
  15. Hey guys - just an update Have fitted it.... If i attempt my usual limp wristed wheelies the bike will now flip me... so i reckon its made a difference (before it wouldnt be so quick to hoik) I think the bike actually makes a little less noise if thats possible. THE PIPE WAYS 350 grams less than the old one!!! Jza
  16. Hey Guys, I've got a 2005 4RT that had new a piston back at the end of April 2006. The bike was not used by the previous owner for 4 of the months in between (broken hand) and i havent used it for 2 months (broken finger) (yes - the bike is possesed LOL) How much can i expect to pay - and do i need to be exact on the dates (1 year for piston change according to manual) or is this something i do when i notice smoke or something? Any advice appreciated Jza
  17. The changes you should notice are first a broader powerband, and more power overall, throughout the range. It helps give more power but really is a help to riders of all ability levels. It's one of the aftermarket items that helps and is just too expensive a mod to have as a standard item. the titnaium also will keep the temps down from steel. They are well worth the cost. I forgot to say, no, there are no changes you need to do to fit the Mitani pipe at all. Cheers m8
  18. Just got one off ebay.. but cant ride bike for 2 weeks (bust finger surgeon said NO ). Apart from fitting it - is there anything else i need to do? What changes will i notice? Jza
  19. I got one 3 months ago. despite falling off the damn thing and breaking a finger on it - cant fault it. I've never ridden a trails bike before - but people who ride it who are "proper" riders always comment on the power and stability as big pluses.
  20. I've only been riding for 2 months... only on a 4rt Fine apart from the busted finger i got 3 weeks ago going over rocks i wasn't capable of going over.. OUCH I agree that it holds a line well.. but have no idea what other bikes would ride like over the same sections LOL The engine is a bit of a handfull to start off with... certainly need to respect the gas up hills or you can be dragged about a bit. The 4RT is still in charge of me at the moment... guess with practise it should be the other way round LOL Jza
  21. Hey Guys, I'm 6ft 3. If i stand up straight on my 4RT i can't hold on to the bars - have to bend forward to grab them properly. Just been watching a Trial at my local club - all the experts seem to be able to stand completely straight up and hold the bars without bending. This seems to help them "manhandle" the bike over the rocks etc I have the "highest" Renthal bars... Does it matter in the slightest? Should i / can i get "extenders" that will bring the bars towards me and what is the correct setup? Jza
  22. Think that might impede the movement of my finger ? Thanks Pete.... looks like i had a short riding career then LOL I'm bricking it thinking about anesthetic!! Jza
  23. Ive only just got the bike. When its cold and i start for first time the engine sounds rattly... it sounds a lot better after ive ridden it once its warmed up. Do they all make this noise of do i have a potential problem? 2005 4RT Jza
  24. Knew i wouldnt make it but had to try.... Fell over and smashed my right pinkie between rock and handlebar. SNAP Pins to be put in on during op on friday How do i get riding again and not break the damn thing twice? Anyone done the same - is there any protective gear you can put on to get riding again? What about those motorcross hand protectors - would they help? LOL Jza Only ridden my bike 4 times and am out for min of 4 weeks!!!!! DOH!
